San Diego police Officer Frank White was found not guilty yesterday of criminal charges resulting from the shooting and wounding of a mother and her young son during a road-rage incident last year. A Vista Superior Court jury acquitted White, 29, of a felony count of grossly negligent discharge of a firearm and a misdemeanor count of exhibiting a firearm.

Around 11am on Saturday, a woman was found stabbed to death in an apartment on Kungsholmen in central Stockholm. The 36-year-old was arrested the same day, and later charged with murder.

A newborn baby was found stuffed in a shoebox and dumped in the lobby of a Long Island apartment building, cops said Monday. The girl was less than a day old when she was discovered by a man who heard a noise and peeked inside a Timberland work boots box around 9 p.m. Sunday in Hempstead, L.I. “She appears to be in good health,” Nassau County Police Detective Lt. Raymond Cote said. “No one knows what could have happened to the child had it not been found quickly.”

It took Patrick Dupont just two hours of fishing to hook what appears to be the Lake Champlain International Father’s Day Fishing Derby’s most rewarding catch. The 14-year-old North Hero boy caught a 15-pound, 9-ounce, 34-inch lake trout early Saturday morning in opening hours of the three-day tournament. The fish — a derby and modern-day Lake Champlain record for the species — might wind up reeling in Patrick a creel-full of prizes.

Sheriff deputy and his mom arrested after he barfs on people at concert then refuses to leave.

Authorities say a Stark County sheriff’s deputy was arrested with his mother after the deputy vomited on people at a Kenny Chesney concert in Fargo and refused to leave. Police Sgt. Mark Lykken said 26-year-old Justin Krohmer, of Dickinson, and his mother, Susan, whose husband is the Ada, Minn., police chief, were jailed on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting or obstructing an officer.

This story kinda makes you wonder how someone like this could have made it through the screening process let alone get hired as a police officer.

Portland Officer Joseph E. Wild returned to court Tuesday morning to plead not guilty to an 84-count indictment. Wild is accused of placing numerous sexually-explicit and harassing phone calls to eight females using his bureau-issued cellphone, often while on duty, between November 2008 and April. Among those he’s accused of harassing by phone is his 14-year-old sister-in-law, three female Portland officers and a 16-year-old female who he had driven to a youth center for missing juveniles while on duty as a North Precinct officer.

Fellow inmates don’t like baby killers in jail.

The Metairie woman who is accused of leaving her newborn to die in Lake Pontchartrain was beaten unconscious by another inmate in the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center last week, her attorney said Monday. Ciara Craig, 21, was hospitalized and received six stitches to her forehead after an inmate kicked her on Friday, Morris Reed said. Craig has returned to the Gretna jail and is being held in its medical unit, Reed said.

A 21-year-old southern Illinois man was arrested on Father’s Day after allegedly putting his 2-year-old son in a clothes dryer and burning him on the cheek with a cigarette. Derek Hill Sr. of Edwardsville and his wife, 27-year-old Eva Hill, are charged with aggravated battery of a child. Bond has been set at $50,000 each.

CA man saves Fourth of July fireworks show with $27,000 donation.

The skies over Anaheim Hills will light up with fireworks July 4 after all, preserving a 21-year tradition that last year attracted nearly 40,000 spectators, event organizers say. George Adams, the owner of the Foxfire Restaurant in Anaheim Hills and SA Recycling in Anaheim, contacted organizers of the Peralta Park event after reading a story in the Register about the show being canceled because of a lack of financial support.
