Washington, D.C. Wins V.D. Triple Crown–Leads Nation in Syphilis, Gonorhea and Chlamydia Rates
Washington, D.C., had the dubious distinction of beating all 50 states to post the highest rates in the nation for the sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) Chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis, according to a new report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta. The District of Columbia had a Chlamydia rate of 1,177 cases per 100,000 people–almost three times the rate of its neighbors, Virginia (405) and Maryland (439). Mississippi was a distant second, at 728 cases per 100,000 people. By comparison, California’s rate was 407 cases per 100,000; New York came in at 458; New Mexico at 470; Utah at 377 and Maine’s rate was a mere 198 per 100,000. China questions costs of U.S. healthcare reform
Guess what? It turns out the Chinese are kind of curious about how President Barack Obama’s healthcare reform plans would impact America’s huge fiscal deficit. Government officials are using his Asian trip as an opportunity to ask the White House questions. Detailed questions. Boilerplate assurances that America won’t default on its debt or inflate the shortfall away are apparently not cutting it. Nor should they, when one owns nearly $2 trillion in assets denominated in the currency of a country about to double its national debt over the next decade. Nothing happening in Washington today should give Beijing any comfort or confidence about what may happen tomorrow. Healthcare reform was originally promoted as a way to “bend the curve” on escalating entitlement costs, the major part of which is financing Medicare and Medicaid. That is looking more and more like an overpromised deliverable. [Even the COMMUNIST Chinese don’t like the way this ObamaCare fraud smells. I wonder if it’s because we are in debt to that government to the tune of nearly a trillion dollars and they know this pig will cost us nearly double that over the next ten years?…ed]
Hoffman ‘unconcedes’ in N.Y.-23 House race
Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman has “unconceded” in New York’s special House election after reports that the vote margin narrowed between him and Rep. Bill Owens (D). Hoffman conceded the race on Election Night after learning he trailed Owens by 5,335 votes. But the Syracuse Post-Standard reported last week that the margin had shrunk to 3,026 votes after recanvassing. Hoffman appeared on conservative commenatator Glenn Beck’s radio show this afternoon. Beck asked the him if he would “unconcede.” “Yes, if I knew this information at the election night, I would not have conceded,” Hoffman said. [Perhaps conservatives should stop this nice guy crap and yank a page out of the leftists’ playbook and start fighting like mad dogs for these seats when the numbers are this close…ed]
Senate Committee Postpones Fort Hood Hearing At Request of White House
The Senate Armed Services Committee postponed its Monday briefing on the deadly Fort Hood massacre at the behest of the White House, despite calls from some lawmakers to press forward with a congressional investigation into the shooting rampage that killed 13 and wounded 29. An aide to committee chairman Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., told Fox News that the meeting is delayed “at the request of the administration.” Army Secretary John McHugh and Army Chief of Staff Gen George Casey were to have briefed committee members privately on the shooting. [What the hell ever happened to separation of powers in our government? Congress is representative of the people and Americans want to know why the Obama administration, despite enough red flags concerning this guy to make the Chinese jealous, didn’t do something to prevent this murdering muslim from killing 14 innocent people. Over half against terrorists’ trial in NYC
Most Americans oppose President Obama’s decision to try accused Sept. 11 attacks mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed and four other suspected terrorists in a civilian court in Manhattan, according to a poll released today. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 51 percent opposed the decision, with just 29 percent favoring not to try the suspects in a military tribunal at the Guantanamo Naval Base in Cuba where they are currently imprisoned. Nineteen percent said they were not sure whether it was the right decision or not, according to the survey. Meanwhile, the poll also found that only 30 percent of Americans said terrorists should be tried in US courts, while 54 percent favored military tribunals last year when the first such trial got under way at Guantanamo. [Polling indicates the American people know this trial is all about politics and they figured that out right quick…ed]
With Congress tied up over health reform — legislation whose initial, much-discussed goal was to extend health insurance to as many as 47 million uninsured Americans — this may be as good a time as any to propose another, less divisive reform. (SNIP) All that is required is a bipartisan, pro-constitutional bill to extend the Second Amendment’s protection of gun ownership to all Americans, whether they like it or not. Under such legislation — let’s call it the Gun Insurance Act of 2009 — every American would be required to buy some kind of gun. Those who cannot afford even the simplest weapon — say, those whose 2009 annual income is less than twice the federal poverty level — could be issued $500 vouchers that would be valid only at gun shops or gun shows, and would have to be used before the 2010 Census. [This writer may be tossing out a little tongue in cheek satire but it actually is a damn good idea if you think about it…ed]

N.A.A.C.P. Prods Obama on Job Losses
With unemployment among blacks at more than 15 percent, the N.A.A.C.P. will join several other groups on Tuesday to call on President Obama to do more to create jobs. The organizations — including the A.F.L.-C.I.O. and the National Council of La Raza, a Hispanic advocacy group— will make clear that they believe the president’s $787 billion stimulus program has not gone far enough to fight unemployment. They will call for increased spending for schools and roads, billions of dollars in fiscal relief to state and local governments to forestall more layoffs and a direct government jobs program, “especially in distressed communities facing severe unemployment.” [Scrapping the cap and tax and government run healthcare crap, start drilling for domestic sources of energy, begin building nuclear power plants, cutting taxes and ending the assault on businesses by this administration will almost instantly result in the creation of hundreds of thousands of jobs. Gregg: Budget deficit is sending the U.S. to ‘third-class status as a nation’
The U.S. is headed toward “third-class status as a nation” because of the budget deficit, according to the senior Republican on the Senate Budget Committee. Sen. Judd Gregg (R-N.H.), in an interview on C-SPAN, said the biggest problem faced by the country is “the impending fiscal meltdown of our nation,” a risk he said is only exceeded by the risk of a terrorist attack using weapons of mass destruction. “We’re taking ourselves down the road to third-class status as a nation,” Gregg said in the interview, which focused on the pending healthcare debate in the Senate that is expected to start this week. [The Republicans have done their share of ramping up the deficit but this Obama administration and the Democrat controlled Congress have really gone over the cliff with their out of control spending. Stop lying about those stimulus jobs
Give the mainstream news media some credit: They have diligently dug into President Obama’s fanciful boasts of job creation. When Obama claimed earlier this month that his $787 billion economic stimulus package had “saved or created” 640,000 jobs, a dozen news organizations pounced. They soon highlighted some of the most egregious cases of sketchy job creation in about 20 states. From their reports, The Examiner has created an online interactive map for tracking exaggerated stimulus claims. So far, more than 75,000 jobs — exceeding 10 percent of the total — are either highly doubtful or clearly imaginary. In the coming weeks, we expect to add many thousands more to that total as other media organizations scrutinize stimulus grants in their areas. Visiting Maj. Nidal Hasan’s Hospital
While the military still is reeling and recovering from the massacre at Fort Hood, my wife, Gena, and I decided to boost the morale of military personnel by visiting the cadets at West Point and the wounded warriors at Brooke Army Medical Center, at Fort Sam Houston. Little did I know that Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, the shooter at Fort Hood, was hospitalized there. (SNIP) Then came a moment that would have been completely surreal if it had not been a staggering reality. As we were visiting the burn unit, we discovered that Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, the shooter at Fort Hood who murdered 13 and wounded another 30, was being treated in the same facility. To be honest, it made me sick to my stomach and sent shivers of disgust down my spine. Breast-Screening Advice Is Upended
For years, women have been taught to perform regular breast self-exams and those 40 and older told to undergo annual mammograms to detect breast cancer, a disease that kills about 40,000 people in the U.S. every year. Now, new guidelines released by an influential government-funded authority on screening offer this message: never mind. The new U.S. Preventive Services Task Force guidelines, published Monday in the Annals of Internal Medicine, state that routine mammograms aren’t necessary for women of average cancer risk in their 40s, and that women between 50 and 74 years old don’t need to undergo mammograms more often than every other year. They also recommend that physicians abstain from teaching women how to examine their breasts for signs of cancer because of a lack of evidence that it is of any benefit. Stupak: Anti-Abortion Votes Will Defeat Obamacare
Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Mich., said Tuesday he has the votes to to defeat healthcare reform legislation if his abortion amendment is taken out, addng that he has mustered 10 to 20 anti-abortion-rights Democrats to reject a bill with weaker language, according to Roll Call. “They’re not going to take it out,” Stupak said on “Fox and Friends,” referring to Senate Democrats. “If they do, healthcare will not move forward.” (SNIP) “The majority has spoken. Illinois’ Gov And Senator Think Terrorists Bring ‘Good-Paying Jobs’
Once again we see how clueless Democrats like Illinois Governor Pat Quinn and Senator Dick Durbin are on matters of national security. With Barack Obama’s decision to treat the terrorists at Guantanamo Bay as if they are common American criminals, as the president bestows constitutional rights upon them, and with his decision to spread these monsters out across the U.S.A, we see Quinn and Durbin idiotically asserting that terrorists equal “good paying jobs.” These jobs might come from the sale to the federal government of the Thomson correctional facility in west central Illinois where Obama could send some 100 detainees in preparation of closing down the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba facilities. Obama is struggling to figure out what to do with these detainees after his hastily made, ill-informed decision last January to close down the terrorist detainment facility. Parents: Chelmsford school holding firm on holiday gift-shop restrictions
After meeting with members of the Byam Elementary School PTO, two mothers asking to put the holidays back into the school’s annual holiday gift shop say Byam isn’t budging. Kathryn McMillan and Kathleen Cullen, who both have children at Byam, asked school officials to allow all holiday items at the gift shop following a ban on Santa, candy canes, stockings, and all Christmas, Hanukkah and other “religious items.” But a meeting with some PTO parents on Thursday night grew heated as emotions got in the way. Red and green tissue paper to wrap presents was also crossed off the list because it looked too “Christmasy,” McMillan said. “One of the parents said, ‘If we allow Santa, what do we say if a child brings in a swastika? Do we allow that too?’ ” McMillan said. “All I could think of was, are you kidding? You’re comparing a Christmas ornament to a swastika? It seems as if reason is lost somewhere and I just hope we can find it again.” [This is the kind of stupid bullshit that happens with these left wing lunatics who have infested our educational system. Fines for too-tall grass could rise to $1,000 a day in Jupiter
An overgrown lawn could cost a homeowner $1,000 a day. A plan to quadruple the penalty from the current maximum of $250 per day for a first violation is scheduled for consideration at Tuesday night’s town council meeting. A repeat violation by the same person would be boosted to $5,000 a day maximum from $500 per day. If the code enforcement board finds that the violation is irreversible — the unapproved removal of an historic tree, for example — the violator would face a maximum fine of $15,000. The current maximum penalty is $5,000. “That’s outrageous,” said Stefan Harzen, a member of the property owners association for the Woodland Estates neighborhood. Increasing the fines will not result in prettier neighborhoods, he said. “This is an easy way for the town to get more money,” Harzen said.
