Officials trying to rescue child from experimental aircraft

Officials in Larimer County are actively searching for a child who literally floated away from his family’s home on an experimental aircraft. According to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Department, the 6-year-old boy’s family had been building an experimental aircraft which had a large helium balloon attached at their home on Fossil Ridge Road in Fort Collins. On Thursday morning, according to the family and officials, the boy got onto the aircraft and detached the rope holding it in place. [Bizarre news item of the day. I hope this little kid gets back home safe and sound and simply winds up with a great story to tell friends and family for years to come. Social Security makes it official: No COLA in 2010

There will be no cost of living increase for more than 50 million Social Security recipients next year, the first year without a raise since automatic adjustments were adopted in 1975, the government announced Thursday. Blame falling consumer prices. By law, cost of living adjustments are pegged to inflation, which is negative this year because of lower energy costs. Social Security payments do not go down, even when prices drop. The Obama administration, meanwhile, is pursuing a different way to boost recipients’ income. On Wednesday, President Barack Obama called for a second round of $250 stimulus payments for seniors, veterans, retired railroad workers and people with disabilities. Lottery hoax causes riot at Ohio coat store

A woman being driven around in a rented limousine pulled up at a coat store and announced she’d won the lottery and would pay for everyone’s purchases, police said, but she ended up causing a riot when customers realized it was a hoax. Angry customers threw merchandise around and looted, leaving the store looking as though a hurricane had passed through it, police said. (SNIP) “Well, of course, people like to hear that,” Deakins said. “Apparently they were in line calling relatives who were not at the store and told them to come.” [Looks like this Linda Brown was just trying her hand at some good old fashioned Obama style redistribution of wealth. Now I have to wonder just what demographic in this country would riot, steal and loot when they discovered they weren’t going to get something for nothing?…ed]

Obama personal popularity at new low

A new Gallup poll shows that the number of people who have a favorable impression of Barack Obama has fallen to its lowest point since he became president. Fifty-six percent say they have a favorable impression of Obama, versus 40 percent who say they have an unfavorable impression. (Four percent say they have no opinion.) Historically, a president’s personal favorable rating has often been higher than his job approval rating; right now, Gallup has Obama’s job approval at 52 percent. (SNIP) Gallup points out that in this latest survey, Hillary Clinton is now more popular than Obama. [Keep in mind Gallup polls ANYONE over 18 not just likely voters like Rasmussen so their numbers will be skewed a bit higher because of all the lamebrains out there who don’t pay attention to what’s really going on…ed]

Majority of Nobel jury ‘objected to Obama prize’

Three of the five members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee had objections to the Nobel Peace Prize being awarded to US President Barack Obama, the Norwegian tabloid Verdens Gang (VG) reported Thursday. “VG has spoken to a number of sources who confirmed the impression that a majority of the Nobel committee, at first, had not decided to give the peace prize to Barack Obama,” the newspaper said. In a surprise move last Friday, the Nobel committee attributed the Nobel Peace Prize to Obama less than nine months after he had taken office. Foreclosures: ‘Worst three months of all time’

Despite concerted government-led and lender-supported efforts to prevent foreclosures, the number of filings hit a record high in the third quarter, according to a report issued Thursday. “They were the worst three months of all time,” said Rick Sharga, spokesman for RealtyTrac, an online marketer of foreclosed homes. During that time, 937,840 homes received a foreclosure letter — whether a default notice, auction notice or bank repossession, the RealtyTrac report said. That means one in every 136 U.S. homes were in foreclosure, which is a 5% increase from the second quarter and a 23% jump over the third quarter of 2008. First hard stimulus data finds only 30,000 jobs saved or created

The first direct stimulus reports showed that stimulus contracts saved or created just 30,083 jobs, prompting more Republican criticism of the $787 billion package. The data posted Thursday was the result of the government’s initial attempt at counting actual stimulus jobs. Obama administration officials stressed that data was partial — it represented just $16 billion out of the $339 billion awarded — but they said it exceeded their projections. “All signs — from private estimates to this fragmentary data — point to the conclusion that the Recovery Act did indeed create or save about 1 million jobs in its first seven months, a much needed lift in a very difficult period for our economy,” said Jared Bernstein, the chief economist for Vice President Joe Biden. [The only “jobs saved or created” by this “stimulus” package were government jobs. U.S. troop funds diverted to pet projects

Senators diverted $2.6 billion in funds in a defense spending bill to pet projects largely at the expense of accounts that pay for fuel, ammunition and training for U.S. troops, including those fighting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to an analysis. Among the 778 such projects, known as earmarks, packed into the bill: $25 million for a new World War II museum at the University of New Orleans and $20 million to launch an educational institute named after the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, Massachusetts Democrat. [Your “get really pissed off” article of the day…ed]

So Much for the Post-Racial America

I’m hunkered down on some projects and just heard about the phony attacks on Rush by the race-hustlers extraordinaire, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. I know Rush has big shoulders and he’ll handle it just fine. But everytime one of these stories comes up, which is all too often, I can’t help but think it says a lot more about us than whoever happens to be in the cross-hairs. Why do Sharpton and Jackson have careers? Why aren’t they shown the door for serial racism and dishonesty? Why does anyone give a damn what they say? Why does the press treat them like they matter when they’re a walking, talking parodies? Hilton hotel owners were cheeky: Chavez

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has said he seized the landmark Hilton hotel on Margarita Island because its owners dared to impose conditions on its use by his government to host a summit there last month. “To hold the conference we had to ask for permission… and the owners tried to impose conditions on the revolutionary government. No way,” said Chavez. “So I said, ‘Let’s expropriate it.’ And now it’s been expropriated.” [Man this nutjob is out of control. Rough Road Ahead for New York Eagle Scout as School District Won’t Budge on Pocketknife Suspension

As a 17-year-old Eagle Scout continues to wait out a one-month suspension from his upstate New York high school for having a 2-inch pocketknife locked in a survival kit in his car, the U.S. Military Academy says the missed school days could pose a big problem when it reviews his application. Pressure is mounting on a Troy, N.Y., school board to overrule Matthew Whalen’s suspension from Lansingburgh High School, which was issued because of a zero-tolerance policy that is facing increasing opposition from parents and education advocates. Backlash to Limbaugh smear campaign?

The establishment media in the United States fears Rush Limbaugh more than any other media figure. Liberals who actually start to listen to his show frequently discover that his insights are rewarding, his humor is entertaining, and his combination of common sense and sophisticated analysis is compelling. Ever since his national show began, those who depend on establishment media for their information have been fed the line that he is hateful, racist, crude, and above all, not to be listened to. The ability to persuade those who pay little attention to politics that Limbaugh is anathema to all that is decent and good lies behind the mindless acquiescence of NFL Commissioner Goodell to the smear campaign. Having fabricated two decades of smears, the media have been able to peddle the lies about Limbaugh successfully enough to get him dropped from the group seeking to buy the St. Louis Rams. Fox hunting

Let’s face it. Fox News runs stories that the Obama administration would rather ignore – from the sleaziness and corruption in the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) to the bizarre views and actions of senior presidential appointees such as Van Jones and Kevin Jennings. Last weekend, the Obama administration declared war. “We’re going to treat [Fox News] the way we would treat an opponent,” said Anita Dunn, White House communications director. She claimed, “We don’t need to pretend that this is the way that legitimate news organizations behave.” The administration has begun using a government blog to regularly attack what it calls “Fox lies.” [The ratings at Fox News are through the roof while Obama’s numbers continue to plummet. Lawmaker defends length of Obama’s New Orleans trip

President Barack Obama’s half-day visit is long enough considering the other issues on his plate, said Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) on Thursday. The president had come under fire from the community group ACORN — which backed him in the 2008 election — and some Louisiana lawmakers for not spending enough time in areas affected by Hurricane Katrina and speaking with people there. On the other hand, Rep. Anh Joseph Cao (R-La.) will attend the town hall event with Obama. [I just watched his little campaign speech to a room full of gushing Obamaites. Obama loosens missile technology controls to China

President Obama recently shifted authority for approving sales to China of missile and space technology from the White House to the Commerce Department — a move critics say will loosen export controls and potentially benefit Chinese missile development. The president issued a little-noticed “presidential determination” Sept. 29 that delegated authority for determining whether missile and space exports should be approved for China to Commerce Secretary Gary Locke. US House backs Guantanamo prisoner transfer

The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday voted to allow the Obama administration to bring foreign terrorism suspects from the Guantanamo Bay prison to the United States to face trial. Now muslims demand full sharia law

A radical Muslim group sparked outrage last night as it launched a massive campaign to impose sharia law on Britain. The fanatical group Islam4UK has announced plans to hold a potentially incendiary rally in London later this month. And it is calling for a complete upheaval of the British legal system, its officials and legislation. Members have urged Muslims from all over Britain to converge on the capital on October 31 for a procession to demand the full implementation of sharia law. House Republicans accuse Muslim group of trying to plant spies

Republican members of the Congressional Anti-Terrorism Caucus said the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) have tried to plant “spies” within key national-security committees in order to shape legislative policy. Reps. Sue Myrick (R-N.C.), John Shadegg (R-Ariz.), Paul Broun (R-Ga.) and Trent Franks (R-Ariz.), citing the book Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld that’s Conspiring to Islamize America, called for the House sergeant at arms to investigate whether CAIR had been successful in placing interns on key panels. CAIR’s Inner Workings Exposed

The Council on American-Islamic Relations has, since its founding in 1994, served as the Islamist movement in North America’s most high-profile, belligerent, manipulative, and aggressive agency. From its headquarters in Washington, D.C., CAIR also sets the agenda and tone for the entire Wahhabi lobby. A substantial body of criticism about CAIR exists, some of it by me, but until now, the group’s smash-mouths and extremists have managed to survive all revelations about its record. The publication this week of Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld That’s Conspiring to Islamize America (WND Books) may, however, change the equation. Quote of the day.

So I shamelessly say no, I want him [Barack Hussein Obama] to fail, if his agenda is a far-left collectivism, some people say socialism, as a conservative heartfelt, deeply, why would I want socialism to succeed?
