Denmark is the centre of a comprehensive tax scam involving CO2 quotas, in which the cheats exploit a so-called ‘VAT carrousel’, reports Ekstra Bladet newspaper. Police and authorities in several European countries are investigating scams worth billions of kroner, which all originate in the Danish quota register. The CO2 quotas are traded in other EU countries. Denmark’s quota register, which the Energy Agency within the Climate and Energy Ministry administers, is the largest in the world in terms of personal quota registrations. It is much easier to register here than in other countries, where it can take up to three months to be approved. Former NASA climate scientist pleads guilty to contract fraud
A former top climate scientist who had become of one the scientific world’s most cited authorities on the human effect on Earth’s atmosphere was sentenced to probation Tuesday after pleading guilty to steering lucrative no-bid contracts to his wife’s company. In addition to a year’s probation, former NASA manager Mark Schoeberl, 60, of Silver Spring, was also fined $10,000 and ordered to put in 50 hours of community service. He admitted in the late summer that he had hid some $50,000 in NASA contracts for a company called Animated Earth, which was run by Schoeberl’s wife, Barbara. Prosecutors alleged that Schoeberl tried to help his wife’s firm for years. When his colleagues balked at giving no-bid contracts to his wife’s firm, Schoeberl pressured them to steer money to his wife through indirect means. [Naturally my first thought would be, if this guy had no problem committing fraud in order to enrich himself through his wife’s business what would stop him from committing fraud with his so called scientific findings in order to steer millions of dollars in grants his way? Secret Service Director: Threats Against Obama Not Up Over Other Presidents
You may remember a rash of media reports in August and September about a claim that assassination threats directed at President Obama are up 400 percent over previous presidents, stretching the Secret Service to its limits. The claim came from a book by NewsMax’s Ronald Kessler, “In the President’s Secret Service.” In the wake of the White House party crashers media blitz, Kessler has again gotten attention, saying the Secret Service has been cutting corners since 2003, and may be endangering Obama. But Director of the Secret Service Mark Sullivan begged to differ at a Congressional hearing over the party crasher incident today: “The threats are not up,” Sullivan said, adding that they receive about the same amount of threats against Obama as they did for presidents Clinton and Bush. Secret Service Suspends Agents Over Gate Crashers
Three uniformed officers have been put on administrative leave in connection with the security breach at last week’s White House state dinner, but the incident was an aberration and President Barack Obama was never at risk, said the head of the Secret Service. However, Mark Sullivan acknowledged before the House Homeland Security Committee Thursday that mistakes were made and that the Secret Service must have a “100 percent” performance record. Rep. Bennie Thompson, the committee chairman, said the country is fortunate the affair didn’t end in a “night of horror.” [I hate to see some of our dedicated Secret Service agents fall on their sword for a situation that is definitely not what it appears. 62% Oppose Single-Payer Health Care System
Only 27% of voters nationwide favor a single-payer health care system where the federal government provides coverage for everyone. That’s down five points from August. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 62% are opposed to a single-payer system and another 12% are undecided. Most Democrats (54%) favor this type of system, though 37% are opposed. Most Republicans (87%) and voters not affiliated with either party (64%) are opposed to the idea. There is little difference in opinion between those voters who currently have health insurance and those who do not. Voters who are not married are slightly more supportive than married voters of a single payer system. [Hey Obama and Democrats in Congress, can you hear us NOW?…ed]
Sen. Blanche Lincoln Trails Potential GOP Contenders for Her Arkansas Seat
Two-term Democratic Sen. Blanche Lincoln, who finds herself at the center of the health care reform debate, is running behind or statistically tied with four potential Republican challengers for her Arkansas seat, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted Dec. 1. The Rasmussen poll shows 65 percent of voters in the state somewhat or strongly oppose the health care proposals advocated by President Obama and Democrats, with 56 percent of that number in the “strongly” oppose camp. Among those who strongly oppose the proposals, Lincoln trails all four Republicans by more than 50 points. ‘Job Summit’ Ignores Job Creators
The White House will hold its jobs summit Thursday. Don’t expect this administration, so deeply devoted to government, to actually do anything that will create jobs for a country so in need of them. Earlier this week, we published a chart showing the percentage of each president’s Cabinet appointments with prior private sector experience going back to the first Roosevelt administration. It was no surprise that not a single White House in more than a century has had a smaller ratio than the current administration. Only the Kennedy — less than 30% — and Carter — just over 30% — administrations were close to the Obama mark of less than 10%. It is the height of hubris for an administration in which fewer than one in 10 Cabinet appointments have private-sector experience to hold a meeting with the goal of creating jobs. The government, from lawmakers to bureaucrats, does not create jobs. It can move jobs from the private sector to the public through tax-and-spend wealth redistribution policies. But because government spending crowds out private investment, it is not a wealth creator and therefore cannot be a job creator. [Obama holds a ‘job summit’ at the White House but doesn’t invite anyone from the US Chamber of Commerce to get their opinions on what can be done to get employment number up. Brilliant…ed]
Mr. President, here’s how to lift our economy
Today’s White House jobs summit comes too late for millions of Americans who through no fault of their own have lost their jobs, their homes, their savings and, in many cases, the self-esteem and self-respect that come from work. Like other presidents before him, Barack Obama inherited a recession. But unlike them, he has made it worse, not better. His failure to stem the unemployment tide should not have been a surprise. With no experience whatsoever in the world of employment and business formation, he had no compass to guide his path. Instead, he turned over much of his economic recovery agenda to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, themselves nearly as inexperienced in the private sector as he. Congress gave him and them everything they asked for, including a history-making three-quarters of a trillion dollar stimulus. But it did little to stimulate the real economy — where jobs are created. Studies, initiatives and programs that liberal think tanks had long pined for were given life even as the private economy was on life support. The president’s team assured us that their massive stimulus would hold unemployment below 8%. So with unemployment now at 10.2%, it is clear that their stimulus was a miscalculated failure. [Former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney has some excellent suggestions for this administration to pull out of this unemployment tailspin but left out one important item. Reduce or eliminate our dependence on other countries for our energy needs. We could put millions of people to work immediately by beginning to drill for oil and natural gas, which we have plenty of right here in the USA, and by building nuclear reactors to provide safe clean electricity to our ever growing population. Easy solutions. If only the guy living in our White House wasn’t so hell bent on destroying our country…ed]
Gore cancels personal appearance in Copenhagen
Former Vice President Al Gore on Thursday abruptly canceled a Dec. 16 personal appearance that was to be staged during the United Nation’s Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, which begins next week. As described in The Washington TImes’ Inside the Beltway column Tuesday, the multi-media public event to promote Mr. Gore’s new book “Our Choice” included $1,209 VIP tickets that granted the holder a photo opportunity with Mr. Gore and a “light snack.” Berlingkse Media, a Danish group coordinating ticket sales and publicity for the event, said that “great annoyance” was a factor in the cancellation, along with unforeseen changes in Gore’s program for the climate summit. The decision affected 3,000 ticket holders. “We have had a clear-cut agreement, and it is unusual with great disappointment that we have to announce that Al Gore cancels. We had a huge expectation for the event. … We do not yet know the detailed reasons for the cancellation,” said Lisbeth Knudsen, CEO of Berlingske Media, in a statement posted by the company. 12 Days, 3 Networks and No Mention of ClimateGate Scandal
It’s been nearly two weeks since a scandal shook many people’s faith in the scientists behind global warming alarmism. The scandal forced the University of East Anglia (UK) to divulge that it threw away raw temperature data and prompted the temporary resignation of Phil Jones of the university’s Climate Research Unit. Despite that resignation and calls by a U.S. senator to investigate the matter, ABC, CBS and NBC morning and evening news programming has remained silent – not mentioning a word about the scandal since it broke on Nov. 20, even as world leaders including President Barack Obama prepare to meet in Copenhagen, Denmark next week to promote a pact to reduce greenhouse gases. Other news outlets, including The New York Times, Washington Post, CNN and Associated Press have deemed ClimateGate worthy of reporting, but the networks were too busy reporting on celebrity car accidents and the killer whale that ate a great white shark. Instead of airing a broadcast news segment that might inform the public about the science scandal, both ABC and CBS relegated the story to their Web sites. There was one mention of the scandal on ABC’s Sunday talk show: “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.” [Since the lamestream media is just as complicit as the lying “scientists” in this major fraud it’s little wonder why they have failed to inform their viewers about the Climategate scandal…ed]

The Democratically-controlled Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming held a hearing yesterday to examine the science behind global warming. Two climate experts from the Obama administration testified, but when Republicans asked to have a global-warming skeptic at the hearing, Chairman Ed Markey (D-Mass.) refused to allow it. Hosting a hearing on global warming with no dissenting opinions made Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.), the ranking Republican on the Committee, think the Democrats and the Obama administration were just as complicit in the global warming scandal sparked by Climategate as the Climategate scientists themselves. “What the hearings showed is that the President’s science advisors are at the bottom of the whole climate change debate,” said Sensenbrenner. Sprint fed customer GPS data to cops over 8 million times
Christopher Soghoian, a graduate student at Indiana University’s School of Informatics and Computing, has made public an audio recording of Sprint/Nextel’s Electronic Surveillance Manager describing how his company has provided GPS location data about its wireless customers to law enforcement over 8 million times. That’s potentially millions of Sprint/Nextel customers who not only were probably unaware that their wireless provider even had an Electronic Surveillance Department, but who certainly did not know that law enforcement offers could log into a special Sprint Web portal and, without ever having to demonstrate probable cause to a judge, gain access to geolocation logs detailing where they’ve been and where they are. A Roman Catholic Cardinal told homosexuals and transsexuals on Wednesday they would never get into heaven, prompting a rebuke from the Vatican itself. “Transsexuals and homosexuals will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven, it’s not me who says it but St. Paul,” said Mexican Cardinal Javier Barragan, a former Vatican official who recently retired, referring to one of St. Paul’s epistles. Asked if people were born homosexual Barragan, whose comments were posted on a conservative Catholic website called www.pontifex.roma, was quoted as saying: “One is not born homosexual but they become that way. This is for various reasons: education, for not having developed their identity during their adolescence, maybe they are not guilty but by going against the dignity of the body they certainly will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven.” [So, exactly where do they go?…ed]
The principal and a teacher at Goleta Valley Junior High School in Santa Barbara County, California are apologizing to parents for not following school district policy relating to a pro-homosexual workshop given to 8th grade students in a leadership class at the school.
The controversial workshop was presented by “Just Communities Central Coast” in three, 45-minute sessions over three days. It included handouts defining homosexual terminology, including queer and transgender, and listed “heterosexism” as “oppression that ‘pushes down’ people who are LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender and questioning) and ‘pushes up’ people who are straight.” The handout defines sexual orientation this way: “Refers to who we feel romantically and sexually attracted to and who we fall in love with.” [Keep this article in mind the next time you come across an eighth grader who can’t spell, speak properly or figure out how much change they should get back from their 75 cent purchase when they hand over a dollar…ed]
Beverly Hills to give homeless a break on parking tickets
Beverly Hills might seem a world away from urban ills like homelessness, but it could become the first city in Los Angeles County to dismiss parking citations for homeless people. The Beverly Hills City Council voted Tuesday to approve the creation of a “parking ticket forgiveness program” for homeless or formerly homeless individuals or people who are at risk of becoming homeless. The 5-0 vote came on a first reading; the council must approve the measure on a second reading for it to take effect. “If you have a backlog of parking tickets and you’re homeless and you’re doing everything you can to get back on your feet . . . this gives a means of doing that,” Mayor Nancy Krasne said Wednesday. She said the program is “not for somebody who’s making a living but doesn’t feel like paying a parking ticket.” There is a catch, however. [Ummmm, “for homeless or formerly homeless individuals or people who are at risk of becoming homeless” wouldn’t that include just about everybody, especially with “Obama’s economy?”…ed]
