A recent Rasmussen Reports poll of possible matchups in the Republican primary next year shows Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio would attract 47 percent of the vote. Treasurer Dean Martin, whose campaign pitch in the past has traded on his familiar name, would come in at 22 percent if he decides to run. Incumbent Gov. Jan Brewer came in third at 10 percent of the vote. Tucson lawyer John Munger and Paradise Valley Mayor Vernon Parker each garnered 6 percent of the vote. The climatologists at the center of the leaked email and document scandal have taken the line that it is all much ado about nothing. Yes, the wording of their messages was unfortunate, but they insist this in no way undermines the underlying science. They’re ignoring the damage they’ve done to public confidence in the arbiters of climate science. “What they’ve done is search through stolen personal emails—confidential between colleagues who often speak in a language they understand and is often foreign to the outside world,” Penn State’s Michael Mann told Reuters Wednesday. White House Science Czar Involved in Climategate
You haven’t heard it from America’s mainstream media yet – even Fox News hasn’t covered it – but the director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, Dr. John P. Holdren, is a key player in the Climategate e-mails flap, which is shaping up as the biggest scandal in the history of modern science. Holdren is an intractable global warming activist with no time for climate change skepticism. In a New York Times article, he contended that such questioning “has delayed – and continues to delay – the development of the political consensus that will be needed if society is to embrace remedies commensurate with the challenge.” (SNIP) But the Canada Free Press this week revealed that the former Harvard professor and Al Gore global warming adviser features prominently in the thousands of e-mails and other files made public after the hacking last week of a computer server used by the University of East Anglia Climate Research Unit. Well, here’s yet another thing the unconfirmable Obama “Climate Czarina” Carol Browner got around disclosing thanks to, and one more reason for being stuffed into, a position of influence through the backdoor of a phony job not subject to Senate confirmation, even while lording over Senate-confirmed constitutional officers: She was on the board of one of the leading carbon offset trading companies, APX. That makes for one really big conflict of interest in her role guiding the administration’s efforts to regulate carbon dioxide and force emitters to buy CO2 ration-coupons. The economy is struggling, the unemployment rate is high, and many Americans are struggling to pay the bills, but one class of Americans is doing quite well: government workers. Their pay levels are soaring, they enjoy unmatched benefits, and they remain largely immune from layoffs, except for some overly publicized cutbacks around the margins. To make matters worse, government employees—thanks largely to the power of their unions—have carved out special protections that exempt them from many of the rules that other working Americans must live by. The latest example is Mad Magazine trying to make former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin look foolish and “dangerously delusional.” Mad magazine, which no doubt you are surprised even exists anymore, decided the way to get attention is make fun of Palin. The January 2010 issue bashes Palin as “Blunder Woman” in part of a cover story devoted to the “20 Dumbest, People, Events and Things” of 2009. The magazine criticized her for “going ‘rogue,'” saying “‘rogue’ is the Eskimo word for ‘stupid.'” [Who the hell reads Mad magazine anymore? I mean, this rag was completely stupid even way back when I was a young and impressionable dupe ripe for political persuasion via idiotic cartoon drawings…ed]

Justice Department Says Acorn Can Be Paid for Pre-Ban Contracts
The Justice Department has concluded that the Obama administration can lawfully pay the community group Acorn for services provided under contracts signed before Congress banned the government from providing money to the group. The department’s conclusion, laid out in a recently disclosed five-page memorandum from David Barron, the acting assistant attorney general for the Office of Legal Counsel, adds a new wrinkle to a sharp political debate over the antipoverty group’s activities and recent efforts to distance the government from it. North Carolina officials are reporting an alarming growth in the size and sophistication of the fake identification business, which has graduated from nuisance industry to national security threat. At the end of October, the Department of Motor Vehicles had recorded 373 arrests for driver’s license fraud, which includes both manufacturing and possessing the bogus IDs. That’s a larger number in 10 months than the 294 arrests made during all of last year. The state Alcohol Law Enforcement Division closed down a “document lab” in a Beaufort County trailer park a week ago. One suspect arrested, Raul Alexander Pinto-Gonzales, had been previously deported and is awaiting deportation again. Bloomberg’s price of victory: $102M
Mayor Bloomberg has become the first person in US history to spend $100 million out of his own pocket to win municipal office. His campaign yesterday released figures that showed the mayor burned through $102.1 million — and counting — to eke out a third-term victory over underfunded city Comptroller Bill Thompson. The filings revealed that Bloomberg spent $18.7 million beginning Oct. 20 in the run-up to Election Day — more than $1 million a day. Since he got just 585,466 votes — nearly 200,000 fewer than in 2005 — Bloomberg’s win by just 4.6 percentage points has, so far, cost him $174 a vote. Value Added Tax Hidden in Health Reform
With spending at nearly 25 percent of GDP and headed for more than 40 percent of national output, according to the liberal Progressive Policy Institute, how will the Democrats pay for it all? The evidence points toward the way big-government, slow-growth Europe does it: the value added tax. Working as a sales tax that you don’t get to see on your receipt, the VAT has proven to be a brutally efficient money machine in other countries. Maybe that’s why Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi last month told Charlie Rose that a VAT was “on the table” as a solution to America’s fiscal liabilities. Teaching plan: America ‘an oppressive hellhole’
A program proposed at the University of Minnesota would result in required examinations of teacher candidates on “white privilege” as well as “remedial re-education” for those who hold the “wrong” views, according to the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education.
The organization, which promotes civil liberties on the campuses of America’s colleges and universities, has dispatched a letter to University of Minnesota President Robert Bruininks asking him to intervene to prevent the adoption of policies proposed in his College of Education and Human Development.
“The university’s general counsel should be asked to comment as soon as possible,” said the letter from Adam Kissel, an officer with The FIRE. “If the Race, Culture, Class, and Gender Task Group achieves its stated goals, the result will be political and ideological screening of applicants, remedial re-education for those with the ‘wrong’ views and values, [and] withholding of degrees from those upon whom the university’s political reeducation efforts proved ineffective.” By any “non-totalitarian” standards, he wrote, the the plans being made so far by the school are “severely unjust and impermissibly intrude into matters of individual conscience.” Kissel wrote that it appears that the university “intends to redesign its admissions process so that it screens out people with the ‘wrong’ beliefs and values – those who either do not have sufficient ‘cultural competence’ or those who the college judges will not be able to be converted to the ‘correct’ beliefs and values even after remedial re-education.” [This is the future of the “teaching industry” here in America. If you don’t profess to hating everything this country represents, or more accurately did represent in the past, or you can’t be “properly” reprogrammed, you will not be accepted into college and you will not be able to go on to teach in public schools. Body of John Jones, medical student trapped in Utah cave, won’t be recovered; Nutty Putty to close
The popular Utah cave where a 26-year-old medical student died earlier in the week will be closed permanently and his body will not be removed, state and county officials said Friday. Any effort to recover John Jones’ body from the cramped underground chute where he became stuck with his head at an angle below his feet Tuesday night would simply be too dangerous, they said. “If we put other people in that same location, they could get stuck or get hurt,” said Lt. John Valentine with Utah County search and rescue. [Hell of a way to go and hell of a burial for this young man…ed]

Brady is just stepping up because he has a challenger in the Republican primary for the first time since he was elected in 1996. Why? Well, he voted for TARP – twice as well as in committee; then he told the constituents that he did it because he knew better than them. Plus, when’s the last time you heard of Kevin Brady before this year? He has not been the leader Texas District 8 wants and deserves and he’s making a big last ditch effort to prove himself. The thing is, it shouldn’t take 14 years for you to find yourself and step up to the plate.
