As Bank Failures Rise, F.D.I.C. Fund Falls Into Red

The government-administered insurance fund that protects depositors fell into the red for the first time since the fallout from the savings-and-loan crisis of the early 1990s as the pace of bank failures accelerated. The fund had a negative balance of $8.2 billion at the end of the third quarter, federal regulators said Tuesday. Bank customers, however, should remain confident that their deposits would be protected since most of the amount reflects money that Federal Insurance Deposit Corporation has already set aside to cover the losses from future bank failures. Officials of the F.D.I.C. said in October that the deposit insurance fund had been depleted, but the third-quarter report card on the banking industry issued on Tuesday was the first time that hard numbers had been released. Even amid early signs that the economy is recovering, the report suggested that the country’s 8,100 lenders remain in fragile condition. [But don’t worry about the money you have in the bank because the government is going to force banks to pay three years of their annual assessments up front, right now, which, of course, will put very little strain on these lending institutions which happen to be failing at a record rate as the value of the dollar continues to tank at about the same rate as Obama’s poll numbers. More on this here…ed]

Would Obama Be President If He Made These Five Campaign Promises?

Calling a politician dishonest is like calling a burglar dishonest. The difference is that burglars take less of your money, don’t get invited on the Sunday morning shows, and are more dangerous — unless you happen to be a woman near a male member of the Kennedy family. Even amongst politicians, Barack Obama is such a liar that he makes Bill Clinton look like honest Abe Lincoln by comparison. During the campaign, Barack Obama promised everything to everybody and when people inquired too closely, his supporters screamed that you had to be a racist for doubting him. Well now, Barack Obama is President of the United States and he can no longer hide behind “hope” and “change” while he votes “present” on the tough issues. [Only 43% of Americans claim they would vote for the guy if he was running for president today so I’m thinking, NO, he wouldn’t presently be living in our White House if the country knew ANYTHING about his background or he told people what his true agenda was during the campaign…ed]

Bob Ainsworth criticises Barack Obama over Afghanistan

Mr Ainsworth took the unprecedented step of publicly criticising the US President and his delays in sending more troops to bolster the mission against the Taliban. A “period of hiatus” in Washington – and a lack of clear direction – had made it harder for ministers to persuade the British public to go on backing the Afghan mission in the face of a rising death toll, he said. Senior British Government sources have become increasingly frustrated with Mr Obama’s “dithering” on Afghanistan, the Daily Telegraph disclosed earlier this month, with several former British defence chiefs echoing the concerns. [This would bother Obama if the criticism was coming from the leader of a muslim country or one of our enemies. But coming from our British cousins and our strongest ally? Not so much…ed]

Obama Shatters Spending Record for First-Year Presidents

President Obama has shattered the budget record for first-year presidents — spending nearly double what his predecessor did when he came into office and far exceeding the first-year tabs for any other U.S. president in history. In fiscal 2009 the federal government spent $3.52 trillion — $2.8 trillion in 2000 dollars, which sets a benchmark for comparison. That fiscal year covered the last three-and-a-half months of George W. Bush’s term and the first eight-and-a-half months of Obama’s. That price tag came with a $1.4 trillion deficit, nearly $1 trillion more than last year. The overall budget was about a half-trillion more than Bush’s for 2008, his final full fiscal year in office. [Well at least he is VERY worried about how he is going to pay for the additional troops needed for HIS “necessary war” in Afghanistan…ed]

Saudi Arabia: Obama’s grandmother in Mecca for ‘Hajj’ ceremony

The grandmother of US president Barack Obama has arrived in Saudi Arabia for the ‘Hajj’ or Islamic pilgrimage to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina, a Saudi daily said on Wednesday. Sarah Obama, 87, is being accompanied by a nephew and Obama’s cousin, Omran. On Wednesday Sarah Obama was in the valley of Mina with an African delegation, according to the Saudi daily Okaz. Obama, the mother of the American president’s father, lives in a village in Kenya and is one of the many guests of Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud. [Granny’s a muslim, who’s shocked? And I think I remember Obama nicking his forehead on the King’s zipper when he bowed to him earlier this year so maybe that’s why she’s his guest for this event…ed]

CRU’s Source Code: Climategate Uncovered

As the evidence of fraud at the University of East Anglia’s prestigious Climactic Research Unit (CRU) continues to mount, those who’ve been caught green-handed continue to parry their due opprobrium and comeuppance, thanks primarily to a dead-silent mainstream media. But should the hubris and duplicity evident in the e-mails of those whose millennial temperature charts literally fuel the warming alarmism movement somehow fail to convince the world of the scam that’s been perpetrated, certainly these revelations of the fraud cooked into the computer programs that create such charts will. First, let’s briefly review a few pertinent details. [AmericanThinker.com once again does the job the lame asses in the mainstream media refuse to do…ed]

ACORN OKLAHOMA Document Dump: The Oklahoma Power Plan

ACORN’s San Diego office isn’t the only place its been careless with sensitive documents. Late last year, ACORN abandoned an office in Oklahoma. In its haste to vacate the office–and skip out on the landlord’s claim of back-rent–ACORN abandoned piles of documents, as well as a computer. Below is a copy of ACORN’s “Oklahoma Power Plan,” a long-term political plan to reshape politics in the Sooner State. The “Power Plan” is a very interesting document. First, it provides another example for how ACORN’s political operation thinks strategically. The plan is focused on impacting state legislative races to create momentum and a power base to affect political races next year. The second interesting feature of the document is how overtly partisan it is. At the beginning of the document, ACORN makes clear its goal is to put the Democrats in charge of the state Legislature: [The daily ACORN update reveals more proof these crooks aren’t anything close to resembling a non profit non partisan organization…ed]

Thanks again, President Bush

The Kyoto Protocol went into effect in February 2005. George W. Bush was excoriated by the left for not signing on and acquiescing to the global warming hysteria. All of us can recall how President Bush was called all sorts of names and accused of wanting to destroy the world. Even some nominal Republicans fell for the “settled science” and got on board the climate change express. Nonetheless, George Bush remained firm in his refusal to allow the United States to destroy its economy and standard of living for what has now turned out to be a political movement not one based on science. [Another thing to be thankful for this Thanksgiving Day…ed]

Scientist Repeats Swine Flu Lab-Escape Claim in Published Study

Adrian Gibbs, the virologist who said in May that swine flu may have escaped from a laboratory, published his findings today, renewing discussion about the origins of the pandemic virus. The new H1N1 strain, which was discovered in Mexico and the U.S. in April, may be the product of three strains from three continents that swapped genes in a lab or a vaccine-making plant, Gibbs, and fellow Australian scientists wrote in Virology Journal. The authors analyzed the genetic makeup of the virus and found its origin could be more simply explained by human involvement than a coincidence of nature. Their study, published in a free, online journal reviewed by other scientists, follows debate among researchers six months ago, when Gibbs asked the World Health Organization to consider the hypothesis. After reviewing Gibbs’ initial three-page paper, WHO and other organizations concluded the pandemic strain was a naturally occurring virus and not laboratory-derived. [Unfortunately many people could never imagine a manufactured deadly virus would or could be deliberately released around the world even though a drastic reduction of the planet’s population is precisely what many on the left think would solve a lot of their trumped up claims of man made environmental damage…ed]

Google apologises for racist caricature in Michelle Obama search results

Anyone typing “Michelle Obama” into Google Images this morning was presented with an altered photo depicting the US president’s wife with animal features. In a rare move, Google has posted a message on the top of the results page distancing itself from the image, in the box usually reserved for sponsored links. The note, which states “Sometimes our search results can be offensive. We agree” directs users to a page explaining the technology giant’s policy on “disturbing” search results. The message makes it clear that the Michelle Obama image is not endorsed by Google, but indicates that the company will take no action to have it removed. [No word on when google will apologize for the dozens of “Bush the chimp” and “Bush as Hitler” pictures they happily presented whenever someone did a search through their engine…ed]

The jobs conundrum

Warning: What I am about to say here is politically incorrect. If you can’t handle politically incorrect statements, please do not read any further. A Washington Post story had a troubling story about the unemployment rate among African-American men: “Joblessness for 16-to-24-year-old black men has reached Great Depression proportions — 34.5 percent in October, more than three times the rate for the general U.S. population. And last Friday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that unemployment in the District, home to many young black men, rose to 11.9 percent from 11.4 percent, even as it stayed relatively stable in Virginia and Maryland.” If unemployment is so high among young black men, why are we importing young Hispanic men from Mexico and El Salvador to do construction work and other manual labor? [A high black male unemployment rate can be traced directly to the Democrat party which has trapped these folks in a never ending cycle of government assistance dependence. This demographic has one of the highest high school drop out rates in the country. Without an education and a propensity for a pursuit of the criminal life the chances of these guys landing a legitimate job will always be as low as you can go…ed]

Obama’s Approval Slide Finds Whites Down to 39%

Since the start of his presidency, U.S. President Barack Obama’s approval rating has declined more among non-Hispanic whites than among nonwhites, and now, fewer than 4 in 10 whites approve of the job Obama is doing as president. [While we know what Gallup is trying to insinuate here, this number would include the millions of white Democrats who are fit to be tied with their guy’s lousy job performance ever since they helped shoehorn his ass into the Oval Office…ed]

Census worker in Kentucky killed self, officials conclude

A U.S. Census worker whose death in a secluded Kentucky cemetery sparked worries about a backlash against the federal government killed himself but tried to make the death look like a homicide, authorities have concluded. Bill Sparkman, 51, of London, Ky., might have tried to cover the manner of his death to preserve payments under life-insurance polices that he had taken out. The policies wouldn’t pay off if Sparkman committed suicide, state police Capt. Lisa Rudzinski said. “We believe it was an intentional act on his part to take his own life,” said Rudzinski, who helped lead the investigation. [The cops knew what happened to this idiot right off the bat but it would be much more fun for the pathetic left wing media to paint this scenario as a right wing loon’s response to the black guy in the White House and never ending government intervention into the lives of all Americans…ed]

Obama administration will not sign land mine ban

The Obama administration has decided not to sign an international convention that bans land mines. State Department spokesman Ian Kelly said Tuesday that the administration recently completed a review and decided not to change the Bush-administration era policy. “We decided that our land mine policy remains in effect,” he said. More than 150 countries have agreed to the Mine Ban Treaty’s provisions to end the production, use, stockpiling and trade in mines. Besides the United States, holdouts include: China, India, Pakistan, Myanmar and Russia. Human rights groups had expressed hope that the Obama administration would sign the treaty. [Obviously Obama hates children and people in developing countries who are killed and maimed nearly every day because of these things. Surely we’ll hear from some group(s) decrying his decision any day now…ed]

Angelina Jolie Not a Fan of Obama

Barack Obama does not have Angelina Jolie’s seal of approval. “She hates him,” a source close to the U.N. goodwill ambassador, 34, tells the new issue of Us Weekly. “She’s into education and rehabilitation and thinks Obama is all about welfare and handouts. She thinks Obama is really a socialist in disguise,” adds the source. But don’t expect to see the Salt actress rally against Democrats on Fox News like her staunch Republican father, Jon Voight. “Angie isn’t Republican, but she thinks Obama is all smoke and mirrors,” the source says. Recovery’s pace slower than first thought

he economy is growing modestly, with consumers too wary about spending to invigorate the recovery. That’s the picture that emerged from reports Tuesday on the economy and the confidence of consumers, who power 70 percent of it. Sen. Conrad Suggests That People Who Don’t Believe in Civilian Trials for Terrorists Should Leave America and ‘Go Somewhere Else’

Sen. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) told CNSNews.com that civilian courts are well-suited to prosecute al Qaeda terrorists and that “if people don’t believe in our system, maybe they ought to go somewhere else.” Conrad also dismissed a question about the rights of terrorists captured on foreign battlefields and the rules of evidence in terms of a civilian court trial as not serious. Attorney General Eric Holder announced on Nov. 13 that five suspects in the 9/11 attacks would be tried in a civilian court in New York City instead of facing a military trial. [Considering over 60% of the American people feel terrorists should be handled with military tribunals it sounds like maybe it’s time for the people of North Dakota to make this asshat “go somewhere else”…ed]

Sarah Palin: Books, Buzz, and Oprah Bump

In its first week of publication, Going Rogue: An American Life by former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin was the highest-selling book of the week in the U.S. according to Nielsen Bookscan, debuting ahead of titles by best-sellers James Patterson and Stephen King whose books also debut that week. In comparison to first week book sales by current or past presidents, or by other vice presidential or presidential contenders, Palin runs second behind Bill Clinton’s memoir, My Life, and just ahead of Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton’s Living History. Dobbs Says He Now Backs Amnesty

In a little-noticed interview last week, Lou Dobbs announced that he now supports amnesty for the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants living in the United States. Since he left his job as a CNN commentator two weeks ago, Dobbs’ has been bandied about as a Senate candidate in New Jersey. And now he is indicating that he might run for president. But Dobbs became famous for his strong views on illegal immigration and foreign trade. Now that he’s a would-be politician, those views appear to be softening. Dobbs told Spanish-language network Telemundo he now supports a plan to legalize millions of undocumented workers, a stance he long lambasted as an unfair “amnesty.” [Atta boy Lou. Truck Plunges off Cliff in Jim Wells County

A dramatic scene after a truck full of suspected illegal immigrants falls 45 feet off an embankment in Jim Wells County. It happened near the intersection of FM 2295 and county road 440 which is south of Alice. 18 people were reported to be inside the truck. All of them seriously injured. Joe Martinez with the Jim Wells County Sheriffs Office assisted Border Patrol with the chaotic scene. Border Patrol spotted the truck which authorities were looking for in an adjacent county. When the driver saw the agents turn around, the driver hit the gas. 10 North Naples Middle students suspended for taking part in “kick a Jew day”

Ten North Naples Middle School students were suspended last week after district officials said they participated in “kick a Jew day.” District Spokesman Joe Landon said a student told the dean of students at dismissal on Thursday that she was kicked because it was “kick a Jew day.” The following morning Principal Margaret Jackson addressed the entire student body on the morning news regarding the incident, reviewing the code of student conduct, explaining why what happened was wrong, the need to respect one another and possible consequences, Landon said. New Haven firefighters in discrimination case get promotions

The city of New Haven, Connecticut, will promote 14 firefighters who were involved in a workplace discrimination case that worked its way to the U.S. Supreme Court. The firefighters were among the New Haven 20 — one Hispanic and 19 white firefighters — who fought the city after it threw out the results of a 2003 firefighter promotion exam that left too few minorities qualified for promotions. A U.S. District Court issued a judgment finding the city violated the civil rights of a group of the white firefighters when it threw out the exams in 2004, according to Jessica Mayorga, city spokeswoman. The Tuesday decision follows a court action by seven black New Haven firefighters seeking to delay the promotions. [This would be another slap in the face for the newest Supreme Court justice, Obama’s Sonia “Wise Latina” Sotomayor, who was part of a federal panel of judges that ruled against these white firefighters at one time…ed]

Quote of the day.

Thanksgiving is an emotional holiday. People travel thousands of miles to be with people they only see once a year. And then discover once a year is way too often.
