Where’s the flag for illegal procedure? The president is popping up everywhere but Cialis commercials. How long before we have to watch him and Michelle holding hands in matching bathtubs as they lecture us about executive compensation schemes? Firefighter Suspended Over Flag Sticker
A Chester City firefighter is taking heat after he refused to take the American flag off of his locker. The firefighter is trying to go back to work Friday night after being suspended without pay Thursday for refusing to take the flag sticker off his locker, Fox 29’s Sharon Crowley reported. James Krapf took a photo of his locker with the sticker on it at the Chester Fire Dept.’s station, and he said he doesn’t understand why his supervisor wants him to take it off. Krapf said he’s patriotic and many American flags hang around the firehouse. He said he was told displaying the sticker on the outside of the locker is a violation of department policy. But increasingly, noisy factions on the party’s most liberal flank – among them gay rights proponents, pro-choice activists and immigration reformers who Obama courted last year – are incensed that their causes have taken a backseat to the White House’s all-out push on health care reform. Rep. Peter Welch, D-Vt., understands something that continues to escape House Speaker Nancy Pelosi: Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., is radioactive, owing to multiple investigations of his serial failures to disclose millions of dollars worth of income and investments. Rangel had contributed more than $19,000 to Welch, but the Vermonter recently sent it back. That was a good decision because Welch is a member of the House Ethics Committee, which is conducting one of the investigations of Rangel. But it shouldn’t be necessary to be on the ethics panel in order to understand that Rangel’s actions disgrace Congress, make him unfit to chair the powerful tax-writing committee, and render campaign donations from him as dirty money. Over the years, Rangel has given more than $2.1 million to House colleagues. Each of the many recipients of Rangel’s tainted dough should give it back. This newspaper will track those who do and those who don’t. During the 2008 presidential election, Barack Obama’s website, Organizing for America – over which Obama has editorial control — played host to a series of vile anti-American, Jew-hating posts and pieces. It was overwhelming. There were numerous, heinous calls for Jewish genocide and incitement to hatred. And it is happening again, right now, on the official website of the man who is supposedly the leader of the free world. (SNIP) What they find disrespectful can be interesting: once during the campaign a conservative blogger, Bill Levinson, posted a blog on Obama’s website consisting entirely of a series of quotations from Obama’s own book, Dreams of my Father. Obama’s team did not approve of their standard-bearer’s words, and so Levinson’s blog and account were deleted from the Obama site in just under 36 hours. That’s right, Barack Obama’s website banned Obama’s own words. But the most disgusting anti-semitic ravings remained on the site, along with blogs advocating anarchy and the overthrow of the United States Congress. The cost to the Postal Service of paying 7 percent of its work force to do nothing will exceed $50 million this year. Responding to demands from the United Auto Workers for better income and employment security for its members, the nation’s Big Three automakers in 1984 created “jobs banks” where laid-off employees with little hope of returning to the industry would go and be paid most of their wages (these days, that’s up to $77 an hour) to do nothing. Indefinitely. At their height in 2006, the banks hosted 15,000 idle UAW members. The union only let the companies close the banks after the Obama administration agreed to nationalize General Motors and turn Chrysler over to the UAW. Limbaugh’s So ‘Divisive’ The Left Had To Make Up Lies About Him
Here is a tale of two sound bites. First: “Slavery built the South. I’m not saying we should bring it back; I’m just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark.” Second: “The third lesson and tip actually comes from two of my favorite political philosophers, Mao Tse Tung and Mother Teresa. Not often coupled with each other, but the two people that I turn to most to basically deliver a simple point, which is: You’re going to make choices. … But here’s the deal: These are your choices; they are no one else’s. “In 1947, when Mao Tse Tung was being challenged within his own party on his own plan to basically take China over, Chiang Kai-Shek and the nationalist Chinese held the cities, they had the army. … They had everything on their side. After all, if he had done so at any point in the last 20 years, someone would surely have mentioned it at the time. Yet CNN, MSNBC, ABC, other networks and newspapers cheerfully repeated the pro-slavery quotation and attributed it, falsely, to Rush Limbaugh. And planting a flat-out lie in his mouth wound up getting Rush bounced from a consortium hoping to buy the St. Louis Rams. Sharpton threatens suit against Limbaugh
Reverend Al Sharpton and his lawyers say they are preparing to file a defamation lawsuit against conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh for an op-ed published Saturday, which Sharpton alleges “erroneously” characterizes his (Sharpton’s) role in a string of violent incidents in New York in the early 90’s. In the op-ed published in Saturday’s Wall Street Journal Limbaugh writes Sharpton “played a leading role in the 1991 Crown Heights riot (he called neighborhood Jews ‘diamond merchants’) and 1995 Freddie’s Fashion Mart riot.” [This is rich. Sharpton goes public accusing Rush of saying things he never said and the media does nothing to verify if what he blabbered about was true or not. Now all of a sudden CNN does a little “fact checking” about what Rush says concerning the race baiter extraordinaire while continuing to use an outdated photo of the radio talker who has lost over 90 lbs in the last year. 3,000 NHS staff get private care
The National Health Service has spent £1.5m paying for hundreds of its staff to have private health treatment so they can leapfrog their own waiting lists. More than 3,000 staff, including doctors and nurses, have gone private at the taxpayers’ expense in the past three years because the queues at the clinics and hospitals where they work are too long. Figures released under the Freedom of Information act show that NHS administrative staff, paramedics and ambulance drivers have also been given free private healthcare. This has covered physiotherapy, osteopathy, psychiatric care and counselling — all widely available on the NHS. White House senior adviser David Axelrod said Sunday that the Fox News Channel is “not really a news station” and that much of the programming is “not really news.” “I’m not concerned,” Axelrod said on ABC’s “This Week” when George Stephanopoulos asked about the back-and-forth between the White House and Fox News, founded by Rupert Murdoch. “Mr. Murdoch has a talent for making money, and I understand that their programming is geared toward making money. The only argument [White House communications director] Anita [Dunn] was making is that they’re not really a news station if you watch even — it’s not just their commentators, but a lot of their news programming. Oath Keepers pledges to prevent dictatorship in United States
Depending on your perspective, the Oath Keepers are either strident defenders of liberty or dangerous peddlers of paranoia. In the age of town halls, talk radio and tea parties, middle ground of opinion is hard to find. Launched in March by Las Vegan Stewart Rhodes, Oath Keepers bills itself as a nonpartisan group of current and retired law enforcement and military personnel who vow to fulfill their oaths to the Constitution. More specifically, the group’s members, which number in the thousands, pledge to disobey orders they deem unlawful, including directives to disarm the American people and to blockade American cities. By refusing the latter order, the Oath Keepers hope to prevent cities from becoming “giant concentration camps,” a scenario the 44-year-old Rhodes says he can envision happening in the coming years. It’s a Cold War-era nightmare vision with a major twist: The occupying forces in this imagined future are American, not Soviet. “The whole point of Oath Keepers is to stop a dictatorship from ever happening here,” Rhodes, a former Army paratrooper and Yale-trained lawyer, said in an interview with the Review-Journal. “My focus is on the guys with the guns, because they can’t do it without them. “We say if the American people decide it’s time for a revolution, we’ll fight with you.” [A collection of current and former military veterans and law enforcement officers say they will do what ever they can to defend our country and Constitution and they wind up on the loony left wing Southern Poverty Law Center’s “Hatewatch” list? CAIR Seeks Hate Crime Probe of Vandalism at Calif. Muslim Candidate’s Home
The San Francisco Bay Area chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SFBA) today called on state and federal law enforcement authorities to investigate a possible bias motive for vandalism of the home of a Muslim woman who is running for elected office. CAIR said the house of Nadja Adolf, a Newark resident running for a seat on her local city council, was egged on Sunday, October 11. Adolf is a long-time Newark resident and has never had any previous complaints about property vandalism. A picture of her, wearing an Islamic head scarf, or hijab, was published in a local newspaper just days before the incident. [An expensive state and federal investigation for some egg on a house? Calif. bank becomes 99th in US to be shut in 2009
Regulators shut down San Joaquin Bank in California on Friday, marking the 99th failure this year of a federally insured bank. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. was appointed receiver of San Joaquin Bank, based in Bakersfield, Calif. It had $775 million in assets and $631 million in deposits as of Sept. 29. (SNIP) The 99 failures may not fully reflect the depth of banks’ travails. Many more banks – perhaps hundreds – are so weak they could have been shut down already, experts say. Many vulnerable banks are in limbo. Regulators have threatened to close them unless they shore up their balance sheets, but the recession has made it difficult to raise capital or sell assets. Woman convicted of animal cruelty uses stun gun on trooper
Police say a 65-year-old New Sharon woman assaulted a state trooper with a 975,000-volt stun gun during an investigation into possible animal hoarding at her house on Lane Road. Carol Murphy pleaded not guilty in Franklin County Superior Court on Thursday to assault on an officer, criminal threatening, refusing to submit to arrest and criminal use of an electronic weapon. She was being held at the Franklin County jail on $10,000 cash bail or $100,000 worth of real estate. State Animal Welfare Program staff and Maine State Police seized at least 40 domestic and farm critters, including a donkey, two alpacas and a pot-bellied pig, at Murphy’s house on Thursday. $2.3 million in federal stimulus money is going to pay for Tampa Bay area beauty school tuition
More than $2.3 million in federal economic stimulus grants have gone to eight Tampa Bay area cosmetology and massage schools to pay tuition for the hairdressers, masseuses and nail technicians of tomorrow. (SNIP) Some area salons are hiring in this economy, but even industry lobbyists say beauty school is rarely a ticket to a thriving career. Only 1 to 2 percent of beauty school graduates will be working in the field five years from graduation, said Bonnie Poole, treasurer of the Florida Cosmetology Association. “Yes, it’s a good trade,” Poole said. “But it’s only for a select few who want to wade through the mud to get to where they want to be.” The stimulus money is being paid to beauty schools in the form of Pell Grants, which are awarded to low-income students.
