71 year old paperboy decides it’s time to hang up his handlebar bags.

North Carolina’s longest-running paperboy retired on Sunday. Billy Joe Smith, 71, got up for work at 2:30 a.m. seven days a week for 41 years, reported WXII-TV in Winston-Salem. Smith, who lives in East Bend, N.C., got up Sunday morning and delivered his final Winston-Salem Journal.

Too bad this victim didn’t have a gun on him. He may be the one alive today with the crook laying in the morgue.

Tulsa Police arrested a suspect accused of attempting to steal several vehicles and using one of the stolen vehicles to kill the vehicle’s owner, according to reports. Officer Leland Ashley said officers initially received reports of a vehicle burglary at about 6 p.m. Sunday in the 400 block of South 59th West Avenue. The victim, Stephen Stewart, 62, attempted to stop the suspect, William Gary Parris, 36, from taking his company truck, Ashley said. Then Parris reportedly used Stewart’s company truck to pin Stewart between him and another vehicle, Ashley said.

Children become obese because of the influence of their same-sex parent, not as a result of genetics, a new study by British scientists claims. Scientists from Peninsula Medical School at the Universities of Exeter and Plymouth say if a young girl has an overweight mother she is more likely to become obese, with the same applying to boys and their fathers. The findings suggest that it is behavioural rather than genetic factors that have a greater influence in determining whether children become obese.

A former Murray police detective was sentenced to two years in jail Monday for sexually abusing a teenage girl during a five-year period. Michael D. Spilman, 35, was charged with one count each of first-degree felony aggravated sexual abuse of a child, second-degree felony forcible sexual abuse and class A misdemeanor sexual battery.

McDonald’s is shifting its European headquarters to Geneva, in a snub to the European Union, to benefit from Switzerland’s advantageous intellectual property tax laws. The US fast-food chain is joining other foreign companies that have moved their European headquarters to a more favourable tax regime. US corporations that have based themselves in Switzerland include Kraft, Procter & Gamble, Colgate-Palmolive, Yahoo! and Google.

A hero dad died last night saving his 6-year-old son from a speeding hit-and-run driver who left a trail of destruction on a Bronx street after a fight with his wife at a Chuck E. Cheese’s restaurant, police said. The heartless driver plowed into Miguel Colon, 36, a split second after Colon pushed his son Sebastian out of harm’s way, relatives said. “The boy kept crying, ‘Daddy! Daddy, what happened?'” said witness Sam Alhadis, 16, who works at a nearby deli.

A man’s body was found below the rim of the Grand Canyon on Monday after he apparently drove a car over the edge, park officials said. Officials have surrounded the home of a former police officer they say is accused of fatally shooting a Chambers County deputy. The shooting happened at the suspect’s trailer in the 2500 block of S. FM 565 Road after a meter reader arrived Monday morning to shut off the water, Baytown Police Department Spokeswoman Patti Jett said.

A man tried to rob a Bay Minette-area store this weekend with a toy gun but was chased off by a worker wielding a cricket bat, Baldwin County investigators said. A man entered Bee Gee’s gas station and store on U.S. 31 in the Pine Grove community Saturday afternoon and tried to steal money using a toy gun, Baldwin County authorities said.
