The gunman fled, but a 51-year-old suspect was detained some 170 miles away in suburban Kansas City three hours after the shooting, Wichita Deputy Police Chief Tom Stolz said.

Between her laps in the SummerPlace Inn pool, Riley Braden noticed an 18-month-old sinking to the bottom of it. “She didn’t have her floaties on and her parents weren’t watching,” said the 5-year-old Destin resident. “I saved her. I dashed and I pushed off the wall with my feet and went down and got her.” Riley rescued the little girl before the baby’s family ever noticed she was missing from the step and inner tube where they had left her.

Millvina Dean, who as a baby was wrapped in a sack and lowered into a lifeboat in the frigid North Atlantic, died Sunday, having been the last survivor of 1912 sinking of the RMS Titanic. She was 97 years old, and she died where she had lived — in Southampton, England, the city her family had tried to leave behind when it took the ship’s ill-fated maiden voyage, bound for America.

Domino’s Pizza is dropping their prices across the board by an average of 35 percent, according to Dayton-area franchise owner Tristan Koehler. The chain, Koehler claims, will now be the lowest-priced pizza delivery company in Dayton. The new everyday prices will be a medium pepperoni or 1-topping pizza for $6.99, and a large pepperoni or 1-topping pizza for $8.99. A small will be $4.99. Additional toppings will still cost extra, making a medium deluxe pizza $9.99, and a large deluxe $12.74.

Elderly man walking his dog apparently slips into irrigation ditch, drowns.

Ravalli County authorities say an 87-year-old Hamilton-area man drowned after falling into an irrigation ditch while walking his dog. Undersheriff Kevin McConnell said Charles Centers drowned Tuesday.

Singer Susan Boyle was being treated for exhaustion at a mental health clinic Monday after taking second place in a TV talent competition that turned the humble church volunteer into a global star, the show’s producers and a newspaper said. Boyle was admitted to London’s Priory Clinic on Sunday, a day after she finished behind a male dance group on the show “Britain’s Got Talent,” the Sun newspaper reported.

Two women are dead and two others injured after a man opened fire early Sunday in the parking lot of a Phoenix convenience store after a brawl between one of the victims and another woman. Police think the confrontation may have been gang-related. One of the wounded victims, 29, was shot in the chest and was in surgery Sunday morning. The other, also 29, was grazed by a bullet in the abdomen. Police have not released the names of any of the victims pending family notifications. Police are still searching for the suspects, two men and a woman.

Argument over weeds results in man being shot and killed by sheriff deputy.

A dispute over weeds Friday afternoon ended with a 40-year-old man being shot to death by a Snohomish County Sheriff’s Deputy. The incident occurred around 3:50 p.m. Friday in the 10900 block of Mountain Loop Highway, said Sgt. Robert Goetz with the Everett Police Department. Goetz said no deputies were hurt. Two Snohomish County employees were spraying for weeds along the county road when the homeowner came out and told them to go away or he would get a gun, Goetz said.

Mother of four crushed to death by garage door.

Chicago police are investigating the death of a 33-year-old woman who was apparently crushed by her garage door on the city’s South Side. The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the remains as Yneekah Garcia of Chicago. Police were called to the scene at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday and found the door on Garcia’s neck.

Two Arkansas prison escapees who were serving life sentences thought to be in southeast Missouri.

Authorities are continuing to look Monday in southeast Missouri for two convicted killers who escaped from the Cummins Unit in Grady. Thirty-two-year-old Jeffrey Grinder and 39-year-old Calvin Adams were convicted of capital murder and were serving life sentences. Correction Department spokeswoman Dina Tyler says searchers have gotten no indication the men have left southeast Missouri, so the manhunt is still concentrated there.

Man in custody after two people shot in front of Little Rock AK Army Recruiting Center.

Two U.S. Army recruiters were shot Monday morning in an apparent drive-by shooting at an Army-Navy recruiting station on North Rodney Parham Road in Little Rock, said Little Rock Police. One of the recruiters died just before noon. Police took a suspect into custody a short time later at the Interstate 30-630 interchange.
