The Lieutenant Governor of Mississippi, Phil Bryant, announced an amendment to Section 33-7-303 of Mississippi Code of 1972 which now restricts the power of government officials to seize lawfully owned and possessed firearms and ammunition from citizens even in the case of Governor declared martial law. From the Lt. Governor’s website:
“In these tough economic times, I think it makes sense to get back to common sense approaches. That is why the Senate is working on basic legislation that helps ensure the safety of our everyday life,” stated Lt. Governor Phil Bryant.
A few of the common sense legislative items include:
1. SB 2036 that restricts the power of a peace officer to confiscate firearms and ammunitions in an emergency or during a time of martial law.
Republicans have caught the Democrats in a midnight “stimulus” power play that seeks to cut Republican conferees out of the House-Senate negotiations to resolve a final version of the Obama “stimulus” package. Staff members from the offices of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) met last night to put together the “stimulus” conference report.
They intend to attempt to shove this $1.3 trillion spending bill through in the dead of the night without Republican input so floor action can take place in both chambers on Thursday.
I spoke with House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence (R-Ind.) moments ago about this latest version of Democratic “bipartisanship.” Pence told me, “I think the American people deserve to know that legislation that would comprise an amount equal to the entire discretionary budget of the United States of America is being crafted without a single House Republican in the room.”
I spent an hour or so today looking through the wish list (PDF) of all these so called shovel ready projects submitted by state and city politicians as part of this stimulus bill nonsense being hashed out on Capitol Hill. The thought process behind this idea was to give these state and local officials an opportunity to make a case for their slice of the money pie by estimating the cost of each project and the number of jobs they would supposedly create.
We have heard of many of these items on the wish list such as dog parks, a frisbee park, golf courses, office complexes, solar water heaters, mass transit, a Latino center, airport terminals, road and bridge/overpass projects, construction of homes for first time home buyers, doorbells (honest!), software licensing and one of the most ridiculous, 600 million dollars for:
Forks of the Road Heritage Trail. This project would greatly enhance one of the primary gateways to our city by creating an African American/Ethnic Heritage Trail along a stretch of St. Catherine Street between the Forks of the Road Slave Market Site in Natchez, MS.
My first thought when I saw this short clip of the conversation between Barack Obama and Henrietta Hughes, was this a staged event? If so that’s fine, politicians and daytime TV talk show hosts have been pulling these kind of stunts for years so no big deal. Most people are bright enough to see right through nonsense when they see it but there will always be a certain percentage that will get suckered in by the the well choreographed emotional angle. Montel Williams couldn’t have done a better job than Obama on this one.
As I watched curiosity got the best of me and I began to wonder how was this allegedly homeless person able to get to this event to begin with? How did she even find out about this little shindig? How was she able to get a prime time spot right up front that many mind numbed slobbering Obama-bots would have killed for? I also got the impression that she seemed to be eating pretty well and in fact to me she had all the outward appearances of doing just fine and at the very least, employable. Did you catch the lady that tells Obama “she loves him?”
What kind of goofy nitwit gets so emotionally overcome in the presence of a politician that they respond like this woman? Continue reading »
It seems there is a small group of impressionable 20 something year old kids led by a Muslim gentleman, excuse me CNN describes him as an esteemed Muslim scholar, one Akbar Ahmed, the Islamic studies chairman at American University in Washington, that is roaming around America dressing up in Islamic or Muslim garb with the intention, no really the expectation, of getting a rise out of people wherever they go. No doubt a full news crew just so happens to be quickly available just in case…wink wink.
Their schtick, whoops pardon me–experiment, is to get all gussied up in their Muslim outfits and go strolling into places of business hoping to provoke some snide comments, refusal of service or better yet a major confrontation with a bunch of redneck bible thumpin’ gun totin’ red staters! This would make for some outstanding CNN-msnbc-NBC-ABC-CBS footage showing the entire world just how backwards this nation really is.
What’s annoying about stunts like this is they are designed to perpetuate the perception that Americans, in certain parts of the country, are just a bunch of racist and intolerant people that continually need to work on changing their inherently evil culture that has caused the entire world to hate our big fat guts. Except of course those millions of people flooding across our wide open borders to escape their oppressive homelands every year. Continue reading »
As if this bogus “stimulus bill” wasn’t enough of a burden on the U.S. taxpayers for generations to come Representative John Conyers D-(MI) has once again introduced a bill demanding reparations for blacks. I don’t know what it is with these Michigan politicians but one would think they would be doing everything they can to get their own state’s affairs in some semblance of order as the people who voted for them should rightly expect. Michigan is a mess right now and the good people of that state, for some reason, keep electing these Democrats (real Democrats, not phony Republicans that govern like liberals such as Arnold Schwarzenegger) that either don’t care what is going on or are simply too incompetent to get things turned around up there.
Mr. Conyers first introduced the bill H.R. 40, the Commission to Study Reparation Proposals for African Americans Act in 1989. He has reintroduced H.R. 40 every Congress since then and says he will continue to do so until it’s passed into law. I can only assume he thinks the outcome may possibly be much more favorable this time around what with Obama, who’s family was more likely on the business end of the slave trade way back in the day but nobody ever wants to talk about that angle, in the White House and the Democrats firmly in control of Congress. It’s little wonder that Obama’s hometown mayor refuses to tell the public what that city’s cut of the nearly one trillion dollar Democrat-supporters-and-benefactors package, also known as the federal “stimulus bill,” will be used for in the windy city. After all we have come to know from Mr. Obama that the word transparency has a whole new meaning when it’s said Chicago style.
Mayor Richard Daley has declined to say how the money will be “spread around” because he fears the media will become interested and actually do their job of informing the public what they have discovered. I’m curious as to how a big city mayor, who will probably wind up receiving billions in taxpayer funds that will never be paid back, thinks it is appropriate to withhold this information from the people in this country? What kind of slimy political system do they have in that city where the politicians that come out of there think they can do whatever they want with no accountability to the citizenry? You know, like Obama. Continue reading »
There was a bit of tension the other day in the White House briefing room between ABC’s Jake Tapper (called a Republican hack by the huffy lefties because he had the sack to not back down from Bambi) and Press Secretary Robert “The Doughboy” Gibbs. It went like this:
JT: Robert, two questions — one’s a housekeeping one. In the name of the transparency that you and the President herald so much, is there any way we could get the copies of the waivers that the OMB issues to allow certain Cabinet posts or deputy posts to be free of the ethics constraints you put up? And also the disclosure forms that your nominees put out that go to office of government ethics that somehow they are not able to email or put on the web, is there any way we can get copies of those?
RG: I will check. I don’t know how those forms are distributed.
JT: Based on listening to the president’s rhetoric, I’m sure this is something he would want to do.
RG: Well, knowing of your crystal clarity on his opinion, I’ll certainly check.
JT: He doesn’t believe in transparency?
RG: Did you have another more pertinent question?
JT: I think that’s fairly pertinent to your cabinet nominees and whether not they pay their taxes and whether not they have speaking fees with all sorts of industries you are supposed to regulate, I think that’s fairly pertinent, you don’t? RG: Obviously, I do. And obviously the President does.
JT OK. A majority of the American people apparently support blocking or making major changes to the stimulus bill, according to the Gallup poll. Are you worried you have lost the process of how the bill is received?
For months it has been widely reported that the subprime foreclosure debacle was at the root of the financial mess this country is going through right now and the initial 700 BILLION DOLLAR bailout was urgently needed to help banks and lending institutions by having the taxpayers buy up all those so called “toxic mortgages” and other bad debt. Never mind that most banks sell the mortgages they put together for consumers within minutes of the ink drying on the contract. In turn these mortgages have been known to quickly find their way to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, a hotbed of Democratic political scandal over the past couple of decades. (Please take a gander at this article written five months ago.)
The story went that once the government stepped in and took possession of these worthless assets the banks, theoretically, would be free to once again engage in the kind of behavior that put them behind the 8 ball to begin with and our economy would start rockin’ and rollin’ again. Sounds simple enough but many people in this country weren’t buying what the government liars were selling and there was a tremendous push back from the citizenry over the initial bailout bill, not to mention the latest money grab Congress is proposing. Our representatives didn’t listen and the legislation passed in spite of the vociferous feedback from the very people having to foot the bill.
What was the catalyst? What really happened that could have triggered what many believe was a manufactured financial crisis designed to ensure Barack Hussein Obama would gain control of the most powerful position in the world? Continue reading »
