Obama Adamant-Vets Will Pay For Service Related Injuries With Their Own Insurance

3-16-09

As an update to this earlier post the American Legion Commander, David K. Rehbein, has confirmed Obama is adamant that he will move forward with his plan to compel private insurance companies to reimburse the Department of Veterans Affairs for treatment rendered to disabled and injured veterans, even those who suffered their injuries while performing their mandated military service.

WASHINGTON, March 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The leader of the nation’s largest veterans organization says he is “deeply disappointed and concerned” after a meeting with President Obama today to discuss a proposal to force private insurance companies to pay for the treatment of military veterans who have suffered service-connected disabilities and injuries. The Obama administration recently revealed a plan to require private insurance carriers to reimburse the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in such cases.

“It became apparent during our discussion today that the President intends to move forward with this unreasonable plan,” said Commander David K. Rehbein of The American Legion. “He says he is looking to generate $540-million by this method, but refused to hear arguments about the moral and government-avowed obligations that would be compromised by it.”

H.R.1503, Future Presidential Candidates Must Prove Eligibility

3-16-09

Florida Republican Congressional Representative Bill Posey has introduced a bill that will compel future presidential candidates to definitively prove their eligibility prior to running for office.

Boy talk about a day late and a dollar short Mr. Posey but I digress.

Posey’s bill “would amend the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 to require the principal campaign committee of a candidate for election to the office of President to include with the committee’s statement of organization a copy of the candidate’s birth certificate, together with such other documentation as may be necessary to establish that the candidate meets the qualifications for eligibility to the Office of President under the Constitution.”

Now why in the world did Representative Posey feel the need to bring legislation before the House that would require someone running for president to show they were in compliance with Article II Section I of the United States Constitution?

No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

Surely something as straight forward as providing your ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE and other pertinent documentation when contemplating a run for the highest office in the land would be a basic and elementary expectation would it not?

Obama Administration Wants Military Personnel To Pay For Service Related Injuries?

3-16-09

Last week Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki confirmed the Obama administration is considering a plan to that would force military veterans to pay for service related injuries via their own private insurance.

Is this not the same administration that intends to blow $634 billion dollars as a down payment on what will no doubt become another financial black hole known as forced government administered healthcare?

From cnn.com,

Asked about the proposal, Shinseki said it was under “consideration.”

“A final decision hasn’t been made yet,” he said.

Currently, veterans’ private insurance is charged only when they receive health care from the VA for medical issues that are not related to service injuries, like getting the flu.

But the proposal would be “dead on arrival” if it’s sent to Congress, Sen. Patty Murray, D-Washington, said.

Perhaps Senator Murray didn’t get the memo about Obama’s penchant for signing executive orders to get around any pesky issues with Congress?

NAACP, Blacks Forced Into Subprime Loans Though Qualified For Lower Interest Mortgages

3-15-09

We’ll have to wait and see if this is perhaps an ACORN style ploy to blackmail the targets of this litigation, Wells Fargo and HSBC, or if in fact there is an issue here. I noticed in the accompanying article that representatives from the NAACP claim they have “gone through what they can get their hands on” and they suspect there may be a problem, not that they have strong evidence of such.

The NAACP filed lawsuits Friday against two of the nation’s largest mortgage lenders — HSBC and Wells Fargo — alleging “systematic, institutionalized racism” in their sub-prime lending.

“We have targeted these banks because we have gone through what we can get our hands on, and it seems like there’s a real problem here,” NAACP CEO Benjamin Jealous told CNN.

He added that the group wants “transparency. We want to see the books. We are not seeking damages, we just want them to fix the problem.”

Both companies denied the allegations.

HSBC (HBC) spokeswoman Kate Durham said the company does not comment on litigation, but she added, “We stand by our lending practices.”

Wells Fargo (WFC, Fortune 500) spokeswoman Melissa Murray issued a statement saying, “The NAACP’s allegations are totally unfounded and reckless. We have never tolerated, and will never tolerate, discrimination in any way, shape or form in any of our business practices, products, or services.”

A.I.G. Received 170 Billion In Bailouts Ready To Hand Out Millions In Bonuses

3-15-09

“We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”

–Albert Einstein

American International Group (A.I.G.), which has received some $170 BILLION dollars in taxpayer funded bailout money even though we never told the government it was ok to hand over the funds, announced it was preparing to dole out a whopping $165 million dollars in bonuses to the very same employees that were running the show for the company while it was performing it’s pre bailout financial meltdown.

The New York Times reports,

Word of the bonuses last week stirred such deep consternation inside the Obama administration that Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner told the firm they were unacceptable and demanded they be renegotiated, a senior administration official said. But the bonuses will go forward because lawyers said the firm was contractually obligated to pay them.

The payments to A.I.G.’s financial products unit are in addition to $121 million in previously scheduled bonuses for the company’s senior executives and 6,400 employees across the sprawling corporation. Mr. Geithner last week pressured A.I.G. to cut the $9.6 million going to the top 50 executives in half and tie the rest to performance.

The payment of so much money at a company at the heart of the financial collapse that sent the broader economy into a tailspin almost certainly will fuel a popular backlash against the government’s efforts to prop up Wall Street. Past bonuses already have prompted President Obama and Congress to impose tough rules on corporate executive compensation at firms bailed out with taxpayer money.

A.I.G., nearly 80 percent of which is now owned by the government, defended its bonuses, arguing that they were promised last year before the crisis and cannot be legally canceled. In a letter to Mr. Geithner, Edward M. Liddy, the government-appointed chairman of A.I.G., said at least some bonuses were needed to keep the most skilled executives.

“We cannot attract and retain the best and the brightest talent to lead and staff the A.I.G. businesses — which are now being operated principally on behalf of American taxpayers — if employees believe their compensation is subject to continued and arbitrary adjustment by the U.S. Treasury,” he wrote Mr. Geithner on Saturday.

New York City Police Go Gonzo On Drivers Using Cell Phones.

3-15-09

As if New York City folks aren’t taxed to death already the city has found yet another way to make some serious cash off their backs in a very short period of time. Somewhere in the neighborhood of $1,081,920–in 24 hours. City police wrote 9,016 tickets in this 24 hour time period to people who were caught driving while babbling away on their cell phones. The fine for this egregious act comes in at $120 a pop according to this article in the nypost.com.

NEW YORK – New York City police issued a whopping 9,016 tickets during a 24-hour crackdown on phoning-while-driving.

Department spokesman Paul Browne says that compares to 500 on a typical day.

The ticket blitz ended Friday. But the law is still the law.

Get caught driving while using a hand held phone and you could be fined $120.

Taxi drivers are held to an even higher standard. They can receive a $200 summons from the Taxi and Limousine Commission for using even a hands-free phone while driving.

The NYPD said hands-free phones were not a focus of its 24-hour crackdown.

Obama, Biden Scold States About How To Spend Bailout Money While Administration Clueless Where Bank TARP Funds Have Gone

3-13-09

obama-biden

Let me see if I can get this straight. Obama and his right hand dunce Joe Biden, two people who’s combined resumes reflective of their extensive executive backgrounds could easily fit on the side of one of those cheap promotional ink pens, have the audacity to warn states that accepted back some of the money they sent to Washington D.C. in the first place, that they had better not “waste” the funds?

Imagine that for just a second. We have a group in Congress that has spent some one billion dollars an hour since Obama was sworn into office including “bailout money” to banks that we can’t even track down and these two goofs have the nads to tell others not to piss away the cash? By the way just who gets to say what is “wasteful” and what isn’t? Are we going to have a “How States Spend The Handouts” czar announced soon? Or is Joe “Hey what’s the internet number for that website” Biden really going to be in charge of this entire mess?
