Obama Administration Wants Military Personnel To Pay For Service Related Injuries?

Last week Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki confirmed the Obama administration is considering a plan to that would force military veterans to pay for service related injuries via their own private insurance.

Is this not the same administration that intends to blow $634 billion dollars as a down payment on what will no doubt become another financial black hole known as forced government administered healthcare?

From cnn.com,

Asked about the proposal, Shinseki said it was under “consideration.”

“A final decision hasn’t been made yet,” he said.

Currently, veterans’ private insurance is charged only when they receive health care from the VA for medical issues that are not related to service injuries, like getting the flu.

But the proposal would be “dead on arrival” if it’s sent to Congress, Sen. Patty Murray, D-Washington, said.

Perhaps Senator Murray didn’t get the memo about Obama’s penchant for signing executive orders to get around any pesky issues with Congress?

More from the cnn.com article,

Eleven of the most prominent veterans organizations have been lobbying Congress to oppose the idea. In the letter sent last week to the president, the groups warned that the idea “is wholly unacceptable and a total abrogation of our government’s moral and legal responsibility to the men and women who have sacrificed so much.”

The groups included The American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, and Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America.

At the time, a White House spokesman would neither confirm nor deny the option was being considered.

It’s real simple. There is no need for any consideration that this country, and the government officials who put our brave men and women in harm’s way, owe an obligation to care for its injured military personnel, it’s axiomatic. The mere thought that Obama (yes Obama–there is no way someone in his administration would float an idea like this without him discussing it with them first) would come up with a plan like this, while certainly appalling, is nonetheless expected from someone like him.

While Obama has requested a minimum 10% cut in the military budget others in Congress, such as that lisping spitting fool Barney Frank, are demanding the Pentagon cut close to three times that amount. Fortunately most of Frank’s Congressional colleagues disagree with his oft mentioned desires to rip into the military budget, no doubt so he can shovel even more taxpayer funds to his buddies over at ACORN.

The bottom line is our veterans deserve and should expect the very best medical care this country has to offer whenever they are injured in a service related incident and there should never be any question about that, especially from the people that order them to put their lives and well being on the line.
