Millionaires Moving Out Of Maryland To Escape Confiscatory Taxes

no_new_taxes-copy

Perhaps the Governor of Maryland can learn an important lesson from the Governor of New York David Paterson or better yet NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg when it comes to constantly hammering the wealthy with confiscatory and punishing taxing schemes. Eventually these folks get fed up and move out of state often taking all of their business interests with them.

Not only does the state lose the amount it would have “raised” had the despicable and evil wealthy stayed put and took it in the keyster at the higher tax rate but now they lose everything when the people who generate millions of jobs and middle class incomes pack their bags and flee to places like Florida and Texas, states that do not impose personal income taxes on residents. As a matter of fact Texas has no corporate tax yet is one of the most fiscally sound states in the U.S with an economy that is relatively booming considering what a financial mess the rest of the country is in.

More about Maryland’s millionaire bailout from the Baltimore Sun.com,

One of Maryland’s budget-balancing tactics – asking millionaires to pay more money to the state – appears to be backfiring as the number of the highest-earning taxpayers dwindles with the flagging economy.

A year ago, Maryland became one of the first states in the nation to create a higher tax bracket for millionaires as part of a broader package of maneuvers intended to help balance the state’s finances and make the tax code more progressive.

But as the state comptroller’s office sifts through this year’s returns, it is finding that the number of Marylanders with more than $1 million in taxable income who filed by the end of April has fallen by one-third, to about 2,000. Taxes collected from those returns as of last month have declined by roughly $100 million.

Many taxpayers in that bracket likely filed an extension and won’t complete their returns until October, but a trend is emerging that indicates a “substantial decline” in the number of residents and small businesses with that kind of income, Comptroller Peter Franchot wrote in a letter to Gov. Martin O’Malley and legislative leaders.

Another more debatable explanation would be that millionaires have simply fled the Free State. While some say they have heard anecdotal evidence of the wealthy packing it up, officials say there’s no proof yet of such a development.

Ah yes denial. That would be the first stage of the grieving process with acceptance being the last.

PETA lunatics up to some more of their ridiculous antics.

Two animal-rights activists are scheduled to shower nude in public today at noon in downtown Orlando in order to draw attention to vegetarianism, the group said today. The two women from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals will shower behind a banner at the corner of S. Orange Avenue and E. Church Street. The banner will read: “Clean Your Conscience: Go Vegetarian! 1 lb. of Meat = 6 Months of Showers.” The group has already had one shower event this week in Gainesville, and will have another in West Palm Beach later in the week, according to Ashley Byrne, a senior campaigner who works in PETA’s Norfolk, Va., headquarters. One of the two women participating in the Orlando event is from the Orlando area, and the other is from Tampa, she said.

Snooping through law enforcement databases for information on a man he suspected was fooling around with his wife costs police officer his career.

A crumbling marriage ultimately cost a Goodyear police veteran his badge. Richard Beck has relinquished his badge in the wake of accusations that he illegally accessed law-enforcement databases to look up information about a man he believed was having an affair with his estranged wife, and later lied about it. The agreement reached between Beck, 35, and the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board last week permanently strips him of his ability to work as a police officer in Arizona.

Would you spend a thousand bucks for an outdoor dog toilet? And I thought the $10 I spent on the last pooper scooper I bought was steep.

Necessity might be the mother of invention, but nastiness also played a big role in Curt Fournier’s creation. Fournier, 34, developed the Powerloo and formed GreenDog LLC with fiancee Victoria Januszewski. It’s an outdoor, handsfree flushable toilet for dog waste. The Powerloo sits just below ground level and taps into sewer lines. It’s designed to be an environmentally safe and convenient way to dispose of dog poop. Fournier, who said he spent two years on research, said it’s preferable to taking up space in a landfill or remaining on the ground. Federal environmental and disease experts said dog waste can infect humans or other animals, and contaminate water sources.

Joe Biden has had his finger in every tawdry hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee in my memory. He has lowered the standard of debate. He has politicized the confirmation process. He has used his position to defame a number of nominees, including Bob Bork and Clarence Thomas, and there’s no road too low that he won’t travel.

Welcome To The U.S. Supreme Court Sonia Sotomayor

us_supreme_court_seal-copy

All the teeth gnashing and hang wringing from us folks on the conservative side of the fence means very little and confirmation for Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court was a slam dunk from the moment Barack Obama announced her nomination.

Oh it’s not because she is eminently qualified heads and shoulders above and beyond any other flaming liberal judges out there. It’s because she is a woman of minority heritage who has one of those teary-eyed-dirt-poor-single-mom-walked-through-two-feet-of-snow-to-get-to-her-kindergarten-class type upbringings that makes it hard, as told to them by the liberal media, for the weak kneed Senate Republicans to oppose her nomination. In addition and as a bonus she is firmly in lock step with Obama’s payback-to-white-America-and-redistribute-the-wealth-by-any-means agenda.

All of the left wing media hacks call Obama’s pick, which pretty much everyone knew was coming weeks ago, sheer political brilliance. A woman, a Hispanic (debatably the first to sit on the SCOTUS) and a tear jerker background equals a free ride for Sonia Sotomayor right through the confirmation hearings with nothing more than a little dog and pony show from the Republicans.

You see when the Hispanic woman with a low income upbringing happens to be a Democrat then she is something special and worthy of praise and adoration. Untouchable if you will.

However if the minority nominee happens to be conservative they will be shredded as someone who simply took advantage of their ethnicity to open up all of those affirmative action doors and trailer trash because they grew up in the kind of poverty that turns liberals into heroes. The conservative minority nominee would have their past ripped opened by the left wing media and any potential embarrassing information, whether it’s real or contrived, revealed for all to see. The bottom rated left wing cable channel hairballs spewing venom on a daily basis would hold nothing sacred when it comes to the conservative minority nominee’s family or background…nothing. The late night and Comedy Central clowns would be merciless in their efforts to rip apart the conservative minority nominee in an all out blitzkrieg to force them to step aside. Nothing would be considered out of bounds for these on air dregs of society and the left wingers polluting our society would just eat it up.

While not technically “minorities,” do the names Sarah Palin and Carrie Prejean suddenly come to mind?

CA Supreme Court upholds Proposition 8, marriage is between a man and a woman, but allows all “gay marriages” performed prior to the passing of the law. There is NO doubt the gay people will be back next year in an attempt to unravel this Proposition, and it will probably work.

The California Supreme Court has upheld a voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage, but it also decided that the estimated 18,000 gay couples who tied the knot before the law took effect will stay wed. The decision Tuesday rejected an argument by gay rights activists that the ban revised the California constitution’s equal protection clause to such a dramatic degree that it first needed the Legislature’s approval.

Police captain forced to shoot his own son, a former standout football player at San Diego State, when he attacks his mother.

A captain with the Oceanside Police Department shot and wounded his 25-year-old son, a former San Diego State University football player, shortly after midnight when the young man attacked his mother, authorities said Saturday. Capt. Reginald Grigsby, who was off-duty at the time, called sheriff’s deputies to report the shooting at his Fallbrook home. Grigsby told investigators that his son, Reginald “Reggie” Grigsby Jr., who reportedly has a history of mental illness, came to the couple’s home and got into an argument with his mother, said sheriff’s Lt. Dennis Brugos. The argument quickly turned violent. The captain tried to come to the aid of his wife, but was unable to stop the attack, Brugos said. At that point, the captain grabbed a handgun and shot his son.

More Detroit shenanigans as council member pays only $68 in property taxes on her home last year. City records have listed her home as a vacant lot for last decade.

A Detroit city council member paid only $68 in property taxes this year because city records showed her home doesn’t exist. JoAnn Watson, 58, said she was unaware of a city records discrepancy that has, for the past decade, listed her house as an empty lot even though the brick Tudor-style home has been occupying the plot since 1926, according to a story Sunday in the Detroit Free Press.

Homeowners turn to real estate “swap sites” in order to move their properties.

Diane Peek needed to move from Georgia to central Florida, but for six months no one even showed interest in the house she and her husband built outside Atlanta. In suburban Orlando, Andrew Bou needed to sell his family home to move to Atlanta, but also no luck. Peek and Bou each joined a Web site that matches people willing to trade their homes. They punched in their needs, their likes and dislikes and like two singles finding love on a dating site, they became a match. About seven months later, they swapped homes. Peek and Bou are part of a small but growing number of homeowners who are turning to the Internet to swap properties. The sites — there are about a dozen — allow interested homeowners to browse potential swaps narrowed by giving preferences like price range, number of bedrooms and bathrooms, and city of choice. The homeowner also creates an account with the same information for others to browse.

Inmates and guards at county jails often have a difficult relationship, but in one county jail this week, guards and inmates teamed up, to save a life. Deputy Don Sinz was called into work at the Pepin County Jail on Tuesday, for what he says was a busy day.
The jail had five inmates going to court and the jail had to get ready for a state inspection the next day, but two hours into his shift, he along with two inmates saved a man’s life. Tuesday turned inmates and officers from foes to friends, Officer Sinz says around one in the afternoon he and two inmates, Dave Kuesel and Mitch Randel, found another inmate trying to hang himself in the maximum security section of the jail.

CA Supreme Court expected to uphold constitutional amendment that marriage is between a man and a woman. The battle is far from over however.

Odds are that gay marriage will continue to be banned in the state – except for the 18,000 gay couples that tied the knot before voters approved Proposition 8 in November, according to legal experts anticipating the state Supreme Court’s upcoming ruling Tuesday. But the next ballot measure you see on the issue will seek to reverse the ban – possibly as early as next year.

Off duty Boston police officer tries to help woman getting her butt kicked by her boyfriend. Woman getting beaten and the guy working her over both turn on the cop and knock the crap out of her.

An off-duty Boston police officer was viciously punished for her good deed when she responded to a beaten woman’s cries for help only to be attacked by the woman and her boyfriend, police said yesterday. The officer was walking through the Back Bay about 11 p.m. Friday when she heard a woman calling for help, police said. The officer followed the cries to a basement stairwell at the First Baptist Church near Commonwealth Avenue and Clarendon Street, where she saw the couple fighting, identified herself as a police officer and ordered them to stop.

Home Bible Study Group Threatened By San Diego County Official

A San Diego CA pastor and his wife, who have been holding Tuesday night bible studies for groups of about 15 people, claim a county official banged on their door on Good Friday demanding they answer a series of questions about these get-togethers. Some of the questions included whether the group said “amen” and “praise the Lord” and even if the group sang songs at their meetings!

Can you imagine how quickly every loud mouthed activist in the country would be booking flights into San Diego right now if this was a group of black folks being interrogated about their bible study sessions? Of course we would NEVER hear about this type of heavy handed government thuggery going down if the subjects were a bunch of Muslims hooking up to study the Koran.

A San Diego pastor and his wife claim they were interrogated by a county official and warned they will face escalating fines if they continue to hold Bible studies in their home.

The couple, whose names are being withheld until a demand letter can be filed on their behalf, told their attorney a county government employee knocked on their door on Good Friday, asking a litany of questions about their Tuesday night Bible studies, which are attended by approximately 15 people.

“Do you have a regular weekly meeting in your home? Do you sing? Do you say ‘amen’?” the official reportedly asked. “Do you say, ‘Praise the Lord’?”

The pastor’s wife answered yes.

She says she was then told, however, that she must stop holding “religious assemblies” until she and her husband obtain a Major Use Permit from the county, a permit that often involves traffic and environmental studies, compliance with parking and sidewalk regulations and costs that top tens of thousands of dollars.

And if they fail to pay for the MUP, the county official reportedly warned, the couple will be charged escalating fines beginning at $100, then $200, $500, $1000, “and then it will get ugly.”

Former South Korean President commits suicide by jumping off a hill behind his house. Yeah, sure he did….you bet.

Former South Korean President Roh Moo-Hyun committed suicide Saturday by leaping to his death from a hill behind his house, the South Korean government announced. He was 62. Roh, who was president from 2003 to 2008, had gone hiking near his home with an aide around 6:30 a.m. Saturday (5:30 p.m. ET Friday), the state-run Yonhap news agency said. He was found later with head injuries, and died at 9:30 a.m. after being taken to a hospital in Busan, police said.

Six year old boy grabs the wheel of pickup truck after father passes out. Keeps vehicle from crashing.

A 6-year-old boy grabbed the wheel of his family’s pickup truck when his father passed out from low blood sugar, keeping the vehicle from crashing until an officer could bring it to a halt, police said. Tustin Mains was in the back seat with his 3-year-old brother Sunday when his father, Phillip Mains, slumped over at the wheel, the boy told police. The family had been driving home from a restaurant.

Consumers getting screwed at those BBQ propane tank exchange stations.

Backyard grillers may get a little steamed this holiday weekend when buying refilled propane tanks: They will be getting less fuel for their money than last Memorial Day. When oil prices soared in 2008, propane suppliers quietly reduced by two pounds the amount of gas pumped into each 20-pound tank, saying they wanted to avoid raising prices. Since then, propane prices have been cut in half as the price of oil has dropped. But smaller refills are still being sold nationwide by many dealers, and most buyers are unaware because the tank is the same size.

The Brits really starting to get it when it comes to Obama.

Watching Obama lose his screen on screen duel with Dick Cheney yesterday I was reminded of some lines from Paradise Lost. “Thus Belial with words clothed in reason’s garb Counselled ignoble ease and peaceful sloth, not peace.”

But while the silver-tongued minor devil Belial would no doubt have approved the President’s new surrender-monkey “realist” approach to the war on terror, I doubt he would have been so impressed with his oratorical skills. Never mind the bizarre reputation Obama has acquired as a great public speaker: his speeches are fast beginning to sound almost as excruciating as anything in his predecessor’s “enhanced interrogation program.”

Washington State’s first assisted suicide case is a 66 year old woman with terminal cancer.

Linda Fleming was diagnosed with terminal cancer and feared her last days would be filled with pain and ever-stronger doses of medication that would erode her mind. The 66-year-old woman with late-stage pancreatic cancer wanted to be clear-headed at death, so she became the first person to kill herself under Washington state’s new assisted suicide law, known as “death with dignity.” “I am a very spiritual person, and it was very important to me to be conscious, clear-minded and alert at the time of my death,” Fleming said in a statement released Friday. “The powerful pain medications were making it difficult to maintain the state of mind I wanted to have at my death. And I knew I would have to increase them.”

Obama calls out CodePink, MoveOn.org and other left wingers on their hatred of our military. Really, he did. He must have been talking about these people in this little speech.

On Memorial Day weekend, President Obama paid tribute to the country’s troops in his weekly radio address.

“Our fighting men and women – and the military families who love them – embody what is best in America,” Obama said . “And we have a responsibility to serve all of them as well as they serve all of us.” Obama said that the public often does not live up to that responsibility. “We have failed to give them the support they need or pay them the respect they deserve,” the president said. “That is a betrayal of the sacred trust that America has with all who wear – and all who have worn – the proud uniform of our country.”

Man who threatened suicide by jumping off bridge pushed over the edge by passing motorist. “Pusher” said people like this are just selfish attention grabbers.

A passerby pushed a would-be suicide jumper off a bridge in southern China because he was angry at the jumper’s “selfish activity,” Chinese media reported Saturday. It happened Thursday in the city of Guangzhou as Chen Fuchao threatened to jump off Haizhu Bridge, China’s Xinhua news agency reported. The bridge has gained a “macabre” reputation with 11 jumpers having thrown themselves off the bridge since the start of April, Xinhua said.

NYPD officer hands gun to janitor, who has never held a gun in his life, while attempting arrest on bad guy. Tells the mop pusher to cover suspect while he slaps the cuffs on him.

Struggling to subdue a crazed suspect, an NYPD cop broke a cardinal rule of law enforcement and handed his gun to a Manhattan janitor, telling his stunned new deputy, “I need some help here,” The Post has learned. Even though his idea of backup usually involves clogged drains, Placido Contreras, 51, said he took hold of the weapon and pointed it at the floor after the cop told him, “Keep your eyes on him and shoot him if you have to.”

The natives are competing with immigrants for dwindling number of available jobs. It gets a little testy in the employment line.

Hard times recently drew scores of locals and immigrants to a cold sidewalk in this town, where they spent an anxious night waiting to compete for jobs in a slaughterhouse. Burmese refugee Cho Aye traveled 60 miles from Nashville on a Thursday morning in late March to take a place at the head of the line outside Shelbyville’s state employment office. The next day, the office was to take applications for $9.35-an-hour jobs processing chicken at the local Tyson Foods plant. Directly behind Ms. Aye, sitting on blankets atop the concrete, were 16 more Burmese refugees who had come from as far away as Idaho and Florida.

An Oklahoma sheriff, undersheriff charged with stealing “more than $1,000” from detained motorist.

The sheriff and undersheriff of McIntosh County were charged in federal court Friday in connection with the alleged embezzlement of a large sum of cash that was confiscated from a detained motorist. Sheriff Terry Alan Jones, 36, and Undersheriff Mykol Travis Brookshire, 38, both of Eufaula, are charged in U.S. District Court with depriving Adan Sandival of his civil rights during a traffic stop on Thursday, said Sheldon Sperling, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Oklahoma in Muskogee.

FBI, U.S. Marshall computer networks infected with “mystery” virus.

Law enforcement computers were struck by a Mystery computer virus Thursday, forcing the FBI and the U.S. Marshals to shut down part of their networks as a precaution. The U.S. Marshals confirmed it disconnected from the Justice Department’s computers as a protective measure after being hit by the virus; an FBI official said only that that agency was experiencing similar issues and was working on the problem.

DOH! SWAT team kicks in man’s door just as he arrives home. Good thing the poor guy wasn’t inside at the time! Oh, it turns out they were at the wrong house.

A rural northern Indiana couple was shaken when they arrived home to find a police SWAT team breaking down the door to their house, only to learn the officers were at the wrong address. Harvey Bontrager of Goshen says he had just pulled into the driveway Thursday evening when a vehicle blocked him in and officers began bashing in his door. Bontrager asked an officer what was going on. That’s when an officer asked Bontrager for his address.

Left wing administrators see to it that Wake County North Carolina schools are session on Memorial Day. County GOP representatives say parents should pull kids out of school so they can honor those who gave their all for this country.

Year-round students who skip school Monday have a new excuse — the Wake County Republican Party told me to. The county GOP took the unusual step Friday of encouraging families to keep their children out of school Monday to protest the Wake school system’s decision to have year-round schools open on Memorial Day. Claude Pope Jr., chairman of the Wake GOP, said it’s more important to honor the nation’s war dead Monday than to show up for classes.

[Say I wonder if these kids get Martin Luther King’s birthday off? I’ll have to look into that…..ed]

Quote of the day.

But in the right-wing media, they do have a right-wing bias. And they also have an agenda. So their agenda is: we’re an adjunct of the Republican Party, and we’re going push that agenda every day, and, as you say, brand these stories that help further the right-wing cause.

Obama Kicks Kindergarten Kiddies To Curb In Favor Of Pittsburgh Steelers

waaaa-copy

Man what a crying shame for these 100 or so little munchkins. The plan was to show up at the White House with buses full of bored, agitated, hungry and urine filled kindergartners so they could take a grand tour of the White House but alas the costly effort didn’t pan out allegedly due to timing issues. Evidently they showed up 10 minutes late and *clang* the gates were closed. The Super Bowl champs were in town, they have lots of money and they can vote.

The poor kids. Evidently they were visibly upset, in fact some were sobbing, over the fact they wouldn’t be able to take a walk through the hallowed halls of the United States presidential residence. They were all so looking forward to this historical and life changing experience that their little minds would remember for a lifetime.

What a pant load.

In reality these kids wouldn’t know a stroll around the White House from a walk through their city’s library building and the significance to them would be about the same, a big yawn. This was nothing more than a touchy feely event put together by people who have pumped these little children so full of Obama propaganda for the last six months that NutriSystem will have to develop a special diet plan just for five year olds.

Man I hate to be cynical but this was really all about an opportunity for a group of left wing adults to brag to their like minded family members, friends and neighbors that they and or their kid(s) made the rounds of the Obama crib and caught a glimpse *gasp* of the messiah himself….and he even SPOKE to them!

Kindergarten kids touring the White House? Give me a break, their voter registration cards are so easy to spot what with all the scribbling in crayon.

Instead of silly stunts like this how about we start teaching these kids all about the Constitution right out of the box? That way they’ll have some idea what the White House represents if they are ever fortunate enough to walk through it, when they are old enough to remember doing so.
