Media Malpractice: Tom Brokaw’s World Implodes

With the passing of Walter Cronkite, Mr. Brokaw is considered perhaps the new “dean” of journalism. As such the former NBC News anchor is periodically summoned forth to assess the current world, an occasion that presented itself recently on the venerable NBC Sunday newser Meet the Press. Sitting cheek by jowl with New York Times columnist Tom Friedman, Brokaw joined him to riff on the Internet and the state of journalism today, an opportunity occasioned by the resignation of Van Jones, he of the Truther brigades (and much more) and the Obama White House. Mr. Jones’ resignation was prompted by a virtual parade of videos and documents in which Jones, in his own words and deeds, presented himself as an overripe Marxist with a tendency to the nutty paranoia of the extreme left. This material was discovered by Fox commentator Glenn Beck, doubtless with an assist from citizens who had scanned the Internet, easily unearthing Jones’ ravings. Likely Voters Overwhelmingly Disapprove of ObamaCare

A Zogby International/O’Leary Report poll of 4,200 likely voters has some startling results concerning attitudes toward health-care reform: Asked if they agree or disagree that the federal government should require all Americans to purchase health insurance or face a fine — a provision favored by Democrats — 70.2 percent said they disagree, and only 18.5 percent agree. The rest are not sure. A resounding 75 percent of respondents said that taxes should not be raised to fund a government-run health insurance program for Americans who do not have health insurance. (SNIP) Other findings: 78.5 percent believe tort reform is needed, and 77.3 percent oppose taxing employer-provided health-care benefits. Health Care Reform: Support for Health Care Plan Falls Back To Pre-Speech Levels

Following President Obama’s speech to Congress last week, support for his health care reform plan increased steadily to a peak of 51% yesterday. However, the bounce appears to be over. The latest daily tracking shows that support has fallen all the way back to pre-speech levels. Forty-five percent (45%) of all voters nationwide now favor the plan while 52% are opposed. A week ago, 44% supported the proposal and 53% were opposed. Doctors: Malpractice Costs the Biggest Money-Saver in Tort Reform

Many physicians and Republican lawmakers were happy to hear President Obama raise the issue of medical malpractice in his address to Congress last week, but now are asking why the president wants to test “demonstration projects” when reforms have already proven successful on the state level. “Whole states are demonstration projects,” said Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas. “Texas passed tort reform in 2003 and … insurance premiums went down 30 percent. California passed tort reform and premiums went down 40 percent. Let’s enact tort reform. Let’s not just try that with demonstration projects. We already know it works. Let’s put it into law.” [Obama touching on tort reform during his speech full of lies was nothing but distraction. Congressman Suggests People Will Don ‘White Hoods’ If Wilson Not Rebuked

Rep. Joe Wilson’s outburst last week is drawing new recriminations from his colleagues, with a member of the Congressional Black Caucus suggesting that a failure to rebuke the South Carolina Republican is tantamount to supporting the most blatant form of organized racism in American history. In an obvious reference to the Ku Klux Klan, Rep. Hank Johnson, D-Ga., said Tuesday that people will be putting on “white hoods and white uniforms again and riding through the countryside” if emerging racist attitudes, which he says were subtly supported by Wilson, are not rebuked. He said Wilson must be disciplined as an example. [Democrats, the party of the true racists. Democrats see race factor for Barack Obama foes

Eight months into Barack Obama’s presidency, as criticism of his administration seems to reach new levels of volume and intensity each week, the whispers among some of his allies are growing louder: That those who loathe the nation’s first African-American president, and especially those who would deny his citizenship, are driven at least in part by racism. (SNIP) Other Democrats, not as constrained by the office they hold, are more outspoken about what they see as the racism aimed at Obama. “We think all of it is!” exclaimed Gwen Dawkins, a Democratic activist from Michigan and retired state employee when asked to what degree the fervent opposition to Obama was driven by his skin color. Some Blacks Now Have Doubts About Obama

Americans of all political persuasions agree that the nation has problems. Big problems. (SNIP) According to the Pew Research Center, the president’s approval rating nationwide is now 10 points lower than last April. Included in this is a three-point drop in his approval among blacks. You might say, Star, a drop in approval ratings among blacks from 95 percent to 92 percent is trivial. But I say not so. If we assume this reflects the 16 million blacks who voted for Obama last November, a three point shift means there are about a half million blacks who now have buyer’s remorse. [Blacks who don’t toe the liberal line regardless of their true political beliefs are treated like pariahs within their own ethnic community. Little wonder why so many of these folks are unwilling to break free of the Democrat party chains and shackles that have held them captive on the liberal plantations for decades…ed]

Pace of new stimulus spending slows

The government handed out stimulus money far more slowly this summer than it had in the first weeks after the massive economic recovery plan started, even though President Obama and other members of his administration had vowed to hasten that aid. Facing criticism from some economists that the stimulus was not moving quickly enough, Obama told his Cabinet in June that he was “not satisfied” with the speed with the government distributing more than $500 billion, and that his administration was “in a position to really accelerate.” But in the months that followed, even though more construction projects began, the pace of new spending dropped. [One has to wonder if this “stimulus” bill was nothing more than a huge war chest being held back for the 2010 election in order to assist the Democrats in holding onto power. One thing is certain, this money was never intended to stimulate the economy…ed]

House Dems seek to repeal marriage law

House lawmakers are poised to introduce legislation that would repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). The law, which was signed by President Bill Clinton in 1996, defines marriage as between a man and a woman, and prevents same-sex married couples from receiving the same federal benefits as heterosexual married couples. Reps. Jerold Nadler (D-N.Y.), Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), and Jared Polis (D-Colo.) — who is the first openly gay member elected to the House — plan to introduce a bill this week that would scrap DOMA. Baldwin is also gay. [This should be a states rights issue and should have nothing to do with the federal government…ed]

When, exactly, did the bloom come off the rose? For a good many, I’ll bet it was 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9, just after President Barack Obama delivered another “sounds good, less filling” speech before a joint session of Congress. Senate Democrats rushed to insert language into the healthcare bill to require verification of citizenship to receive government healthcare. It wasn’t in there Wednesday night when President Barack Obama claimed, erroneously, that his bill ensured illegal aliens would not receive the taxpayer-funded healthcare. Republicans in the House tried to insert language for verification, but Democrats defeated those efforts. Obama knew this on Wednesday night when he spoke to Congress and the American people. Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) knew this, too, when he called the president out on his lie during the speech. [Article title says it all. Up to two million march to US Capitol to protest against Obama’s spending in ‘tea-party’ demonstration

Up to two million people marched to the U.S. Capitol today, carrying signs with slogans such as “Obamacare makes me sick” as they protested the president’s health care plan and what they say is out-of-control spending. The line of protesters spread across Pennsylvania Avenue for blocks, all the way to the capitol, according to the Washington Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency. People were chanting “enough, enough” and “We the People.” Others yelled “You lie, you lie!” and “Pelosi has to go,” referring to California congresswoman Nancy Pelosi. Joe Wilson said Sunday that he will not apologize on the House floor for his outburst during President Obama’s health care address, even though Democratic leaders have threatened to formally discipline him if he does not. Wilson noted that he already apologized directly to the White House after shouting, “You lie,” to the president during his Wednesday address to a joint session of Congress. Bomb Threat Forces Evacuation of DC TEA Party Planners

On the eve of what organizers call a ‘Big Ol’ TEA Party’, the Washington, D.C., offices of FreedomWorks were evacuated by DC Metro police on Friday afternoon after the conservative organization reported to authorities at 3:42 pm ET that it had received a bomb threat. State’s Attorney Considers Prosecuting ACORN Video Posters

The activist group ACORN has fired two employees of its Baltimore office who were seen on hidden-camera video giving advice to a man posing as a pimp and a woman posing as a prostitute. Perry: Ranger teams to go to Texas-Mexico border

Special teams of Texas Rangers will be deployed to the Texas-Mexico border to deal with increasing violence because the federal government has failed to address growing problems there, Gov. Rick Perry said Thursday. “It is an expansive effort with the Rangers playing a more high-profile role than they’ve ever played before,” Perry said of the Department of Public Safety’s elite investigative unit. The forces, dubbed “Ranger recon” teams, are the latest effort “to fill the gap that’s been left by the federal government’s ongoing failure to adequately secure our international border with Mexico,” he said. [The federal government has no problem handing over billions of dollars to the crooks who run ACORN but can’t pony up the cash to protect our borders…ed]

Federal judge allows Obama eligibility case to go forward

On Sept. 8, U.S. District Court Judge David O. Carter ordered a scheduling conference for Oct. 5, 2009, allowing the Obama eligibility case filed by Dr. Orly Taitz, Esq. on behalf Captain Pamela Barnett, Alan Keyes and others to proceed. Carter wrote, “The responsibility for the progress of litigation in the federal courts falls not only upon attorneys in the action, but upon the court as well. Accordingly, the court issues this order.” Taitz filed a declaration of Lucas Daniel Smith with an exhibit on Friday. Smith, a 29-year-old American citizen from Iowa, signed an affidavit, under penalty of perjury, stating he “traveled to Kenya and Mombasa, in particular, with the intent to obtain the original birth certificate of Barack Hussein Obama,” as he was told previously it was on file in the hospital and under seal, due to the fact the Kenyan Prime Minister is Obama’s cousin. [Taitz is a pit bull. Once she grabbed onto this issue she sunk her teeth in and refuses to let go. This birth certificate is a rather interesting piece what with the footprint…ed]

Start over, Mr. President

Start with a clean slate on healthcare. Include Republicans in the process. Act like you were listening to the American people who showed up in droves at August town hall meetings on healthcare. Do something, Mr. President, to illustrate you are more committed to the American people than to a political victory. The majority of Americans are unhappy with the manner in which President Barack Obama has handled healthcare reform — 52 percent, according to a new Associated Press poll. Not one Republican in Congress supports any of the bills out of the various committees in the House and Senate. And Obama arrogantly shut out all Republicans, avoiding meetings with GOP leaders regarding healthcare legislation since April.
