The move came on the same day the president pushed back the release of a congressionally mandated report on the nation’s economic conditions, and the White House began to extend a self-imposed deadline for overhauling the nation’s health care system.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee canceled the session as it faced serious concerns about the legislation from fiscally conservative Blue Dog Democrats, who hold a large number of seats on the panel.

An Ohio man, fed up with deceptive junk mail, made the mistake of losing his temper while on the phone with a St. Louis company pitching an extended auto-service contract. Now he finds himself behind bars, where he is charged with making a terrorist threat. According to court documents, Charles W. Papenfus, 43, allegedly told a sales representative during a May 18 telephone call that he would burn down the building and kill the employees and their families.

California’s government run pension system loses nearly 60 billion dollars forcing the state into the position of having to make up the difference to retired state employees.

California’s huge government pension fund is expected to report today a whopping annual loss of an estimated $56.8 billion, almost a quarter of its investment portfolio. The loss at the California Public Employees’ Retirement System for the fiscal year ended June 30 is the second in a row for the country’s largest fund. A year ago, CalPERS reported an $8.5-billion loss, as the severe recession began to take hold. The tremendous drop in value is expected to have a direct effect on the amount of money that the state and about 2,000 local governments and school districts must contribute in coming years to pay for pensions and healthcare for 1.6 million government workers, retirees and their families.

The Obama administration will need more time to cook the books in their budget report that was due to be released, oh right about now.

The White House is being forced to acknowledge the wide gap between its once-upbeat predictions about the economy and today’s bleak landscape. The administration’s annual midsummer budget update is sure to show higher deficits and unemployment and slower growth than projected in President Barack Obama’s budget in February and update in May, and that could complicate his efforts to get his signature health care and global-warming proposals through Congress.

So, who is the horndog governor this hooker is talking about? If it was a Republican the name would have been out there long ago.

An energy-efficiency measure is turning into a ticking green time bomb. The federal government plans to require consumers over the next several years to replace incandescent light bulbs with more expensive but more energy-efficient and longer-lasting compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs). But improper disposal of the mercury-powered bulbs poses an environmental hazard, and the federal government has given little guidance to consumers.

Wisconsin homeowners association prohibits residents from smoking inside their own homes!

It’s not just indoor public places in Eau Claire where lighting up is prohibited. Now residents of a south side, owner-occupied housing complex will have to snuff out smoking in their homes, the most recent sign of public anti-smoking sentiment. Members of the Fairfax Parkside Homeowners Association on Wednesday voted to outlaw smoking inside residences that are part of the 34-unit development.

A group of Democrats elected in recent years from some of the country’s richest congressional districts have emerged as a stumbling block to raising taxes on the wealthy to pay for President Barack Obama’s ambitious health-care overhaul just as the plan has begun to meet increasing resistance over its cost. Friday, two freshmen representatives — Dina Titus, from suburban Las Vegas, and Colorado’s Jared Polis, representing Boulder, Vail and some of the tonier suburbs of Denver — joined Republicans to vote against Mr. Obama’s top-priority health-care overhaul when it faced a vote in their House Education and Labor Committee. One reason was a one-percentage point-surtax on couples earning between $350,000 and $500,000 — gradually increasing to 5.4 percentage points on earnings more than $1 million — to pay for it.

An alleged burglar is in critical condition after Dayton police said he was “shot in the act.” Police said a man shot an alleged burglary he caught breaking into a neighbor’s van. Officers found the shooting victim in a driveway in the 1700 block of Rosemont Avenue about 2:30 Monday morning.

Some are surely wondering, was it really an “accident?”

A man who police say lost control of his car along a Detroit area highway and caused a tanker carrying 13,000 gallons of fuel to crash and explode has offered no apology. Twenty-seven-year-old Saied Haidarian-Shahri of Clawson was one of three drivers who escaped Wednesday night’s fiery explosion. A published report indicates Haidarian-Shahri was trying to flee.

So Obama lied about the qualifications of his Education Secretary, like that’s a shock.

That Chicago’s public schools are a massive failure is not the fault of Arne Duncan, their superintendent for seven years and now President Barack Obama’s Secretary of Education. But, according to a new report, Duncan did not improve Chicago’s schools nearly as much as he and Obama have led the public to believe. When he named Duncan for the position, Obama boasted of the improvement he had brought about in Chicago’s scores on the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT), “from 38 percent of students meeting the standards to 67 percent.” But the new report, issued by the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago, offers convincing evidence that these gains are almost entirely the result of technical adjustments in 2006 to that particular test.

Dionta RaShad Cochran was killed by his own gun after it accidentally discharged in the 19-year-old’s pocket, authorities said Friday. The bullet struck him in the chest while he was getting into an SUV to buy cigarettes. Tests confirmed that the fatal round was fired from the .32-caliber pistol Cochran kept in the back pocket of his low-hanging pants, and not from an unknown shooter, as originally thought, Charleston County Coroner Rae Wooten said.

Under any US President–I presume even Franklin D. Roosevelt–the sworn enemy of the United States of America would not be allowed (let alone welcomed with open arms) into the country. But, under Dictator Obama’s rule, that’s what is now occurring and encouraged terrorist groups are coming out into the open–with no reprisals whatsoever.

The American soldier who went missing June 30 from his base in eastern Afghanistan and was later confirmed to have been captured, appeared on a video posted Saturday to a website by the Taliban, two U.S. defense officials said. The soldier is shown in the 28-minute video with his head shaved and the start of a beard. He is sitting and dressed in a nondescript, gray outfit. Early in the video one of his captors holds the soldier’s dog tag up to the camera. His name and ID number are clearly visible. He is shown eating at one point and sitting on a bed.

I never thought this fraud was cool to begin with so he sure as hell hasn’t lost it with me.

The most viewed story on the Chicago Tribune website as of this writing is a column asking if President Obama wore Mom Jeans to the mound when he threw out the ceremonial first pitch at Tuesday night’s All-Star Game. So much for the president being the coolest guy on Earth. “It’s been a tough week for President Obama’s cool factor,” Politico reports. Even the foreign press picked up on the meme.
