Peter Schiff: Obama's Phony GDP Growth

Recession:

A period of general economic decline; typically defined as a decline in GDP for two or more consecutive quarters. A recession is typically accompanied by a drop in the stock market, an increase in unemployment, and a decline in the housing market. A recession is generally considered less severe than a depression, and if a recession continues long enough it is often then classified as a depression. There is no one obvious cause of a recession, although overall blame generally falls on the federal leadership, often either the President himself, the head of the Federal Reserve, or the entire administration.

So it is generally agreed that at least two consecutive quarters of a drop in GDP can be described as a recession but Obama and his minions disingenuously claim, based on a phony ONE QUARTER bump in GDP due almost exclusively to government one time spending on automobile clunkers and the fraud ridden first time homeowner tax break program scheduled to expire at the end of this month, that the economy has “turned around” and the country is now headed in the right direction saved from the brink by the quick actions of this administration. Ummm, no.

We can anticipate an announcement soon that unemployment will have officially reached 10% (the real unemployment rate hovers around 17%) and will stay there for the foreseeable future.

unemployment rate graph

Since 70% of our economy depends on consumer spending, and with so many people out of a job and those who are employed sweating bullets wondering if or when a pink slip will wind up on their desk, the prospects of this economic malaise we are mired in making a turn and start heading in the right direction any time soon are slim and none. The news that CIT, one of the largest lenders to small and medium sized companies in the country, recently declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy certainly isn’t going to help matters.

One year on, Obamamania gives way to lukewarm support

A year on from a historic election, the spirit of popular goodwill that yielded America’s first black president has retreated to tepid support for Barack Obama as he presses his change agenda. Since the November 4 poll, Obama’s visage has been everywhere, conspicuously on the streets of the nation’s capital where millions of foreign and domestic tourists have visited over the past year, many of them snatching up poignant souvenirs. A quick look around downtown Washington confirms that the Obama trinkets are still for sale, but more than one strategically placed street hawker have found little point in displaying the T-shirts, posters, and “Yes We Can” buttons bearing the new president’s image. “They stay in the truck,” grumbled a vendor who identified himself as “Dick,” as he pointed to a rusty vehicle behind him. “They don’t sell anymore.” [The helium sure leaked out of THAT balloon quickly didn’t it? And as an added bonus all of those stupid “buy this Obama crap” television commercials have finally faded into history…ed]

CIT Files Bankruptcy; U.S. Unlikely to Recoup Money

CIT Group Inc., a 101-year-old commercial lender, filed for bankruptcy to cut $10 billion in debt after the credit crunch dried up its funding and a U.S. bailout and debt exchange offer failed. CIT listed $71 billion in assets and $64.9 billion in debt in a Chapter 11 filing in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Manhattan. The U.S. Treasury Department said the government probably won’t recover much, if any, of the $2.3 billion in taxpayer money that went to CIT. [2.3 BILLION of our taxpayer dollars go poof…ed]

McDonnell Could Lead GOP ‘Landslide’ in Virginia Race

With Republican Bob McDonnell holding a wide lead over Democrat Creigh Deeds in the Virginia race for governor, the former state attorney general could be at the fore of a GOP takeover on Election Day. Virginia could be poised to swing back to Republican hands in a big way on Tuesday. The traditionally purple state has trended Democratic in recent elections. President Obama secured a victory there in last year’s presidential election and the governorship has been in Democratic hands for eight years. But with Republican Bob McDonnell holding a wide lead over Democrat Creigh Deeds, the former state attorney general could be at the fore of a GOP takeover on Election Day. Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia Center for Politics, told Fox News he expects McDonnell to win big — and usher other Republicans into office along the way. “McDonnell is not only going to win — he’s going to win by a landslide. He’s going to pull his entire ticket to victory,” he said, predicting GOP gains in the House of Delegates as well. “It’s a big Republican year in Virginia.” [No chance for the Democrats to pull their usual dirty tricks in Virginia as McDonnell is headed for a blowout…ed]

Hoffman Has Big Lead Over Owens in New York House Race

Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman, who was embraced by the Republican Party after state Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava dropped out, leads Democrat Bill Owens in a two-way match-up 54 percent to 38 percent with 8 percent undecided, according to a Public Policy Polling survey conducted Oct. 31-Nov. 1. PPP predicts Hoffman will win a “resounding victory.” The pollster had been in the midst of taking the pulse of the upstate New York House district where a three-way race was in progress with Republican Dede Scozzafava, Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman and Democrat Bill Owens when Scozzafava dropped out. [Hey Newt Gingrich and the NRCC, CAN YOU HEAR US CONSERVATIVES NOW?!?…ed]

Christie leads

Chris Christie leads Jon Corzine 47-41 in PPP’s final poll of the New Jersey Governor’s race, with Chris Daggett at 11%. Corzine had pulled to within a point of Christie on our poll three weeks ago after trailing by as many as 14 points over the summer, but his momentum has stalled since then and Christie’s built his lead back up to 4 points last week and now 6. Christie’s advantage is due largely to his support from independents and because he has Republicans more unified around him than the Democrats are around Corzine. Christie leads Corzine 52-29 with indies, as Daggett’s support with that group has declined to 16%. Christie is getting 82% of Republicans to Corzine’s 72% of Democrats. [The numbers show Christie should easily beat the useless big time liberal Corzine, but I guarantee you the Democrats will pull out all of the stops in order to lie cheat and steal this election…ed]

Will Corzine Allies Steal the Election in New Jersey? ACORN, Dirty Tricks and Absentee Ballot Fraud.

New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine is locked in the political fight of his life. With just hours left before voting, polls show a neck-and-neck race between Corzine and GOP candidate Chris Christie, with Independent candidate Chris Daggett pulling significant support. Obama and VP Biden are making last ditch pitches for the embattled governor. But evidence is building that Corzine’s campaign may see its only salvation is in rigging the election. The first sign is a straight-up dirty trick. Daggett’s run for office is certainly convenient for Corzine, as he will help split any anti-Corzine vote. And, as a Corzine political appointee, one wonders if his candidacy wasn’t a set up to begin with. Now, in the final days of the campaign, it appears state democrats are paying for robo calls supporting Independent Chris Daggett. First reported here, the robo calls attack Christie (but not Corzine) and promote Daggett. At the end of the call, it is mentioned that the calls are paid for by a “project of the NJSDC.” [The Democrats will stoop to any level to remain in power and it is almost a sure bet that the VERY unpopular Corzine will “miraculously” get “reelected.” Prepare for videos showing union thugs trying to intimidate voters outside of polling places just like the Pink errrr I mean BLACK Panthers in Pennsylvania during the ’08 election…ed]

Former Foreign Service Official Matthew Hoh Explains Decision To Resign

Matthew Hoh makes an appearance on PBS’s NewsHour and sits down for an interview with Judy Woodruff to explain his decision to repudiate American involvement in Afghanistan and resign his foreign service position.

washingtonpost.com–When Matthew Hoh joined the Foreign Service early this year, he was exactly the kind of smart civil-military hybrid the administration was looking for to help expand its development efforts in Afghanistan. A former Marine Corps captain with combat experience in Iraq, Hoh had also served in uniform at the Pentagon, and as a civilian in Iraq and at the State Department. By July, he was the senior U.S. civilian in Zabul province, a Taliban hotbed.

But last month, in a move that has sent ripples all the way to the White House, Hoh, 36, became the first U.S. official known to resign in protest over the Afghan war, which he had come to believe simply fueled the insurgency.

“I have lost understanding of and confidence in the strategic purposes of the United States’ presence in Afghanistan,” he wrote Sept. 10 in a four-page letter to the department’s head of personnel. “I have doubts and reservations about our current strategy and planned future strategy, but my resignation is based not upon how we are pursuing this war, but why and to what end.”

The reaction to Hoh’s letter was immediate……

GOP nominee endorses Democrat after stepping aside under pressure from right

The Republican in a New York House race that has become a symbol of the divisions within the GOP endorsed her former Democratic rival Sunday, a sharp snub to the third-party conservative who forced her out of the race. Dede Scozzafava, who’d been chosen by local Republican leaders to try to hold the seat for the GOP, instead threw her support behind Democrat Bill Owens — only a day after she unexpectedly backed out of the tough, three-way special election. Ultimately, her decision not to back Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman in the contest to fill former Rep. John McHugh’s open seat is likely to enrage party leaders, who rallied around Hoffman almost immediately after Scozzafava announced her campaign suspension. [Gee, what a shock that this left winger throws her substantial physical weight behind the liberal Democrat in NY-23…ed]

Al Sharpton’s ex-wife and daughter get disorderly conduct tickets after dispute over red light

The Rev. Al Sharpton’s ex-wife and oldest daughter were arrested in Manhattan on Friday night for resisting arrest after speeding past a patrol car and through a red light, sources said. Kathy Jordan, 53, and her daughter, Dominique, 23, were pulled over around 7:30 p.m. for ripping through the light at Eighth Ave. in Harlem, sources said. As officers attempted to issue the two women a summons for the traffic violation, things got heated, sources said. The pair became belligerent toward the cops, arguing that they were only trying to get around the squad car that was driving too slow, sources said. [Oh, so the professional race pimp’s ex, who sports an amazing resemblance to an ass ugly drag queen, and her kid thought speeding around a cop car they felt was “going too slow” might not be that big of a deal huh? Sounds a little “Obamaesque” to me…ed]

White candidate scrambles vote, attitudes in Atlanta race

For decades as white residents fled to the suburbs, Atlanta’s black political establishment, led by a string of strong mayors, revived the moribund economy and so revamped the city’s image that it earned a national reputation as “Hotlanta.” Ironically, that success – including a winning bid to host the 1996 Summer Olympics and a slew of Fortune 500 companies relocating to the city – has brought white voters flocking back to the city and, for the first time in 36 years, could put a white candidate back in the mayor’s office when voters go to the polls Tuesday. In a race testing racial harmony in Georgia’s largest city, some veteran black power brokers say their hold on power is being undercut by their past successes running the city. [Perhaps voters in Atlanta just want the best person for the job regardless of their skin color? What a shocking concept…ed]

Be Prepared for the Worst

Any number of pundits claim that we have now passed the worst of the recession. Green shoots of recovery are supposedly popping up all around the country, and the economy is expected to resume growing soon at an annual rate of 3% to 4%. Many of these are the same people who insisted that the economy would continue growing last year, even while it was clear that we were already in the beginning stages of a recession. A false recovery is under way. I am reminded of the outlook in 1930, when the experts were certain that the worst of the Depression was over and that recovery was just around the corner. The economy and stock market seemed to be recovering, and there was optimism that the recession, like many of those before it, would be over in a year or less. Instead, the interventionist policies of Hoover and Roosevelt caused the Depression to worsen, and the Dow Jones industrial average did not recover to 1929 levels until 1954. I fear that our stimulus and bailout programs have already done too much to prevent the economy from recovering in a natural manner and will result in yet another asset bubble. [Abolish the federal reserve NOW!…ed]

ObamaCare Vs. The Hippocratic Oath

Twenty-nine years ago I stood with my 150 classmates in Thorn Hall, at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, as Dean James Eckenhoff asked us to raise our right hands and repeat after him: (SNIP) The sad fact is that the Obama-Pelosi-Reid Administration’s 1990 page health care reform bill (HR3962) and supplement(HR3961) violate The Oath by stripping freedom from every person, family and business in Our country . This 19 ½ pound pair of documents, entitled ”Affordable Health Care For Americans Act,” will cost taxpayers over $1.2 Trillion, will institute 13 tax increases totaling $740 Billion, will increase Medicare Premiums to Seniors by $70 Billion, will cost shift $34 Billion to State budgets, and will cut Medicare benefits to Seniors by $426 Billion over ten years. Annual Medicare Fraud: $60 Billion; Annual Profits of Top Ten Insurance Companies: $8 billion

As 60 Minutes reported last week, Medicare fraud is rampant and has now replaced the cocaine (ahem) business as the major criminal activity in South Florida. Both 60 Minutes and the Washington Post report that Medicare fraud now costs American taxpayers roughly $60 billion a year. That may sound like a lot of money, but surely it pales next to the extraordinary profits of private insurance companies, right? Well, let’s see…. Last year, the profits of the ten largest insurance companies in America were just over $8 billion — combined. No single insurance company made even five percent of what Medicare reportedly loses in fraud. [More inconvenient number crunching reality that blows Obama and the Democrats out of the water when it comes to “evil” insurance companies and the government having the ability to reduce costs in our healthcare system…ed]

Lieberman: Doing nothing on healthcare better than public option

Sen. Joe Lieberman said Sunday it’s worth defeating a healthcare overhaul in order to prevent the creation of a government-run health insurance program. Interviewed on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” the independent member of the Democratic Caucus said doing “nothing” is better than a so-called public option. “‘Nothing’ is better than getting that,” Lieberman said. “We ought to follow the doctors’ oath and say, ‘First, let’s do no harm.'” The Connecticut lawmaker said fixing the economy and creating jobs is a higher priority than healthcare, and a government-run insurance plan would damage the economy by hiking premiums, raising taxes or increasing the national debt. [Lieberman is becoming a real pain in Obama’s ass. I hope he doesn’t plan on taking any lonely walks in the woods for awhile…ed]

GOP nominee pulls out of N.Y. race

The embattled Republican nominee for a New York House seat announced Saturday that she is suspending her campaign, citing a recent poll that shows her too far behind the Democrat and a third-party candidate to win. According to a Siena Research Institute poll released Saturday, Dede Scozzafava has 20 percent of the vote in the upstate New York district, trailing Democrat Bill Owens and Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman, who are neck and neck at 36 percent and 35 percent, respectively. (SNIP) Mrs. Scozzafava’s withdrawal is a huge boon to Mr. Hoffman in the Republican-leaning district. [True Conservatives came out in strong support of Hoffman as the usual cast of RINOs supported the left wing plant Scozzafava. Scozzafava has now dropped out of the race. California to withhold a bigger chunk of paychecks

Starting Sunday, cash-strapped California will dig deeper into the pocketbooks of wage earners — holding back 10% more than it already does in state income taxes just as the biggest shopping season of the year kicks into gear. Technically, it’s not a tax increase, even though it may feel like one when your next paycheck arrives. As part of a bundle of budget patches adopted in the summer, the state is taking more money now in withholding, even though workers’ annual tax bills won’t change. Think of it as a forced, interest-free loan: You’ll be repaid any extra withholding in April. Those who would receive a refund anyway will receive a larger one, and those who owe taxes will owe less. But with rising gas costs, depressed home prices and double-digit unemployment, the state’s added reach into residents’ regular paycheck isn’t sitting well with many. [With the Christmas shopping season coming up the timing of this stupidity couldn’t be worse. Naturally, those who depend on the largess of taxpayers through forced government confiscation won’t be bothered a bit by this…ed]

Taxpayers Fund Research on Bugs, College Sex Lives, Facebook, and Rabbit Droppings with Stimulus Bill

In Ansonia, Conn., $2.3 million in federal stimulus funds is being used for insect research, specifically the “rearing [of] large numbers of anthropoids” which includes the “Asian long-horned beetle, the nun moth and the wooly adelgid,” the New Haven Advocate reported. Duluth, Minn., rarely known for its high temperatures, received $6 million in economic stimulus funds for a snowmaking facility, even though it is the 15th snowiest city in America, according to City-Data.com. As much as $30 million in federal funds will go to spring training facilities for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies, two Major League Baseball teams. The full cost of the training complex in Scottsdale, Ariz., is $100 million. These were just three projects – ranked numbers five, six and 10 respectively – being funded by the $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act signed into law by President Barack Obama in February. The goal of this economic stimulus bill was to revive the ailing economy. [Your children’s children’s hard earned income has been taken away from them long before they are born for crap like this…ed]

Saved or created? W.H. can’t tell

White House officials announced Friday that they had counted exactly how many jobs were created or saved by recent stimulus spending: 640,329. So how many were saved and how many created? They don’t know. In a briefing with reporters, officials acknowledged they can’t tell the difference between jobs “saved,” and jobs “created” by the $787 billion stimulus package. They said they also can’t tell the difference between private sector jobs and government jobs. And they said that they had found and corrected significant errors in the data submitted in 57,000 separate reports to the federal government by Recovery Act funding recipients. [This whole jobs created and saved crap is an absolute joke. Does this administration really think anyone believes this nonsense? Hell they freely admit THEY don’t know what the hell they are talking about!…ed]

Recovery Act job-creation math doesn’t add up in Colorado

The federal government reported Friday that Colorado created or saved 8,094 jobs through grants, loans and contracts funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Problem is, the figure is wrong, according to an analysis of recovery.gov data by The Denver Post. Although a Colorado Springs Head Start program reported it had created or preserved 269 jobs, the real number was three, according to an interview with a program manager. And although the largest private contract in the state funded with stimulus dollars was estimated at $166 million, the number was off by tens of millions, apparently because of a data-entry error, contract information shows. Despite the government’s bid to provide unprecedented details of spending, figures for stimulus awards in Colorado, as with an earlier data release, are inconsistent, inaccurate or incomplete so far. [This web of lies surrounding the Democrat Party 2010 reelection slush fund aka the stimulus program is going to start to rapidly unwind as more and more folks start taking a much more discerning look at the completely bogus numbers coming out of the Obama administration…ed]

Chinese-Made Turbines to Fill U.S. Wind Farm

A Chinese wind-turbine company, with financing help from Beijing, has struck a deal to be the exclusive supplier to one of the largest wind-farm developments in the U.S., a sign of how Chinese firms are aggressively capitalizing on America’s clean-energy push. The 36,000-acre development in West Texas would receive $1.5 billion in financing through Export-Import Bank of China. Shenyang Power Group, a five-month-old alliance, would supply the project with 240 of its 2.5-megawatt wind turbines, among the biggest made in the world. The Obama administration is hoping a shift to renewable energy will inject new life into the U.S. manufacturing base and provide high-paying jobs, making up for losses in other sectors. But while the U.S. has poured money into renewable energy through tax credits and other subsidies, China has positioned itself to reap many of the benefits by ramping up its export machine. Dozens in Congress under ethics inquiry

House ethics investigators have been scrutinizing the activities of more than 30 lawmakers and several aides in inquiries about issues including defense lobbying and corporate influence peddling, according to a confidential House ethics committee report prepared in July. The report appears to have been inadvertently placed on a publicly accessible computer network, and it was provided to The Washington Post by a source not connected to the congressional investigations. The committee said Thursday night that the document was released by a low-level staffer. The ethics committee is one of the most secretive panels in Congress, and its members and staff members sign oaths not to disclose any activities related to its past or present investigations. (SNIP) The staffer was fired, a congressional aide said. [When Nancy Pelosi became speaker she said that she would preside over the most ethical House in history. She did, for about 12 seconds. Democrats’ Healthcare Scheme Is Pure Insanity

Whole industries and banks are biting the dust; unemployment lingers close to double-digits; government deficits rise like a mountain of nuclear waste; the communist Chinese are buying up our debt in anticipation of God knows what kind of future demands; and more soldiers die needlessly while the President dithers with his golf game. Purely mad social engineers — Obama, Pelosi, & Reid — are on a determined march toward nationalizing one sixth of the entire American economy. Their scheme will have far-reaching effects on one hundred percent of the men, women and children in this country. The whole idea is patently ridiculous, especially in light of the host of other impending disasters. But the fact that these Democrat power-mongers are attempting to foist upon us a system already tried-and-failed so many times in so many places pushes the current national healthcare debate into the realm of pure lunacy. (SNIP) Want a real fix? Two things in less than fifty pages: tort reform and a national competitive market for insurers. I think I’ll run for President. [The Americanthinker.com post of the day…ed]

House health bill clocks in at 1,990 pages

It runs more pages than War and Peace, has nearly five times as many words as the Torah, and its tables of contents alone run far longer than this story. The House health care bill unveiled Thursday clocks in at 1,990 pages and about 400,000 words. With an estimated 10-year cost of $894 billion, that comes out to about $2.24 million per word. And for some members, that may not be enough. A “robust” public option can’t be found in the bill. Neither can the word “doctor” – save for a few references to degrees. No “cost curve” is bent. No “blue pill” is dispensed. “Death” and “taxes” are both in there, but “death panel” is not. [For comparison, there are 4543 words in the original, unamended Constitution, including the signatures and The Declaration of Independence contains 1458 words. 6001 words to create this great nation and 2000 pages of this corrupt garbage to begin tearing it down…ed]

It’s alive! End-of-life counseling in health bill

It’s alive. The Medicare end-of-life planning provision that 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin said was tantamount to “death panels” for seniors is staying in the latest Democratic health care bill unveiled Thursday. The provision allows Medicare to pay for voluntary counseling to help beneficiaries deal with the complex and painful decisions families face when a loved one is approaching death. For years, federal laws and policies have encouraged Americans to think ahead about end-of-life decisions, and make their wishes known in advance through living wills and similar legal documents. But when House Democrats proposed this summer to pay doctors for end-of-life counseling, it touched off a wave of suspicion and anger. Prominent Republicans singled it out as a glaring example of government overreach. [The Associated Press will be excoriated by the Obama administration for this “misleading” article concerning “death panels” in 3…2…1…ed]

At key moment, Obama leaves health post unfilled

Medicare and Medicaid, the federal government’s health insurance programs for the elderly and poor, play a big role in the health care reform proposals being considered on Capitol Hill. President Obama and Democrats in Congress hope to cut Medicare spending by nearly a half-trillion dollars over the next decade, and reform plans call for a big expansion of Medicaid during the same period. (SNIP) Congress would like to pose those questions, and many more, to the top administrator of the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Except there isn’t one. Even though the job is critical to the current health care debate — and would become even more critical should reform pass — Obama hasn’t gotten around to filling it yet. [Bet you didn’t know about this did you?…ed]

Democrats May Rely On American Flag Desecration Video To Raise Money

dnc american flag desecration - Copy

Clearly some folks think that mangling and hating on our American flag is the only way for them to acquire a bit of quick notoriety in their lives and perhaps even a seat next to Chris Matthews or Keith Olbermann during one of their bottom of the barrel rated shows but for the Democrat (I never use the word ‘Democratic’ when referring to this political group) National Committee to consider the video at the end of this article as one they may use in an upcoming fund raising campaign speaks volumes about the type and mentality of those who have taken over and corrupted the party that George Soros has owned lock stock and barrel for the last several years.

Before anyone tries the old this is all about the “First Amendment” nonsense keep in mind it was the Democrat nominee Barack Obama who tried to intimidate and silence critics in Missouri, a state John McCain barely carried, during the previous presidential campaign.

It was the Obama campaign who threatened legal action against radio and television stations after they aired NRA commercials in Pennsylvania.

It was the Obama campaign who sent out millions of emails to Obamabots encouraging them to harass a Chicago radio station when they had the audacity to schedule a guest who wrote a less than flattering book about the empty suit.

And of course it was the Obama administration who thought it would be a great idea to try and punk Fox News when that particular media outlet ignored the memo and decided against following in the footsteps of the herd of sheep over at the liberal network and cable propaganda errr….”news” shows.

For goodness sakes this gang of Chicago thugs in our White House even went after their ally the Associated Press today when they simply reported on the fuzzy math used by the administration concerning the number of jobs supposedly “created or saved” by that insane “stimulus” program!

They also went after edmunds.com today for having the nerve to point out the “Cash for Clunkers” program cost American taxpayers $24,000 freakin’ dollars PER CAR SOLD! Would this be a bad time to mention the stupid clunker program mainly benefited foreign car manufacturers?

And of course who can forget the “outrage” from the left over those very clever “Obama The Socialist Joker” posters some witty person came up with a few months ago? Boy, the liberals sure didn’t like that one did they?

Apparently it’s OK to screw with our nation’s flag in the name of the First Amendment but we sure as hell can’t touch Barack Hussein Obama when he tries to jerk this right-of-center country into straight up fascism now can we?

Happy Birthday To Ya Internet

Just imagine how much time we have wasted, how much stuff we have learned, how many games we have played, how many times we became enraged, how many people we have met, how many people we have met who’s neck we would like to snap, how much crap we have bought, how much porn we have watched and how much fun we have had since the first time we hit that switch and joined billions of people all over the world in that big ol’ muddy messy morass called cyberspace.
