GM Plan To Increase Imports Inspires Senators To Issue Warning To Geithner

obama_gm-copy

It’s going to happen as sure as the sun will come up tomorrow and Congressional Senators have finally figured it out. The U.S. taxpayers will be spreading the wealth around to foreign countries just as soon as GM begins stocking U.S. dealerships with thousands of vehicles built elsewhere.

It was inevitable and just about anyone with more than a couple of functioning brain cells could have seen this scenario coming. Domestic automakers could not continue to pay union workers $70+ an hour in salary and benefits and expect to ever see profitability again. Bankruptcy was the only way out of the mess the automakers have found themselves and this path should have been taken long before billions of taxpayer dollars were used to pay back political supporters of Obama and the Democrats through phony bailout schemes.

Just like they did with the banks Obama and his gang will likely not accept repayment of the taxpayer funds funneled through GM to the unions, no doubt because they know the money could never have been repaid anyway, and instead are angling to eventually take majority ownership of the company. This way the government can dictate the type of product produced and foisted upon the American public and there isn’t a damn thing we can do about it. You may want to hang onto that full size pickup truck or SUV as you can bet availability of these vehicles will soon be a thing of the past.

The Senate Banking Committee sat down for a chat with tax cheater and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner to express their concerns about what they believe (know) is coming, a huge increase of imported vehicles by GM, warning Geithner of the “firestorm” that will result if (when) this happens.

Key senators warned Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner today that the administration faced a “firestorm” if General Motors Corp. was allowed to boost imports from foreign countries while receiving billions of dollars in government aid.

Geithner, speaking to the Senate Banking Committee, said the Obama administration was “trying very carefully” not to get involved in decisions by GM and Chrysler LLC to close plants or cut dealerships as part of their government-funded turnaround. The UAW had attacked GM’s plans to boost imports from China, Mexico and South Korea through 2014 while closing 16 plants in the United States and shedding 21,000 U.S. manufacturing jobs.

“If it was a firestorm in this country when we give billions to banks and they pay huge bonuses, you haven’t seen anything yet for what’s going to happen if we put billions in auto companies and they open plants in China,” said Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio.

Geithner defended the administration’s work, saying it was making “extraordinary” efforts to save the domestic auto industry, and that the plans for GM would become clearer in the coming weeks.

“Our job is to make sure that the overall plan leaves these companies in a position where over the longer term they emerge viable,” he said.

CA Voters Speak, Liberal Media Indignant

tax_protesters-copy

The Sacramento Bee put out a snarky editorial today, the day after the people in the state voted down every proposition calling for more taxes, telling residents that the huge budget deficit is now officially their problem. Yep, the people that spent the state into oblivion even though they didn’t have the money to pay for the spending spree are off the hook according to the Sac Bee editorial staff and it’s the stupid taxpayers who are now responsible for the whole mess. Not a word of criticism toward any government officials could be found anywhere in this piece of garbage.

Never mind that residents of that once great state have tried for years to get things in Sacramento under control via initiative after initiative that were eventually overturned by activist judges. The state spends over $10.5 BILLION dollars a year on illegal aliens (and this is a 2005 estimate!) but you never hear of politicians addressing that big fat elephant sitting in the middle of the room. No, they always say they will have to cut police, firefighters, teachers and hospital staff but never ever do we hear they will start booting the freeloaders out the door. Spare me the “immigration is a federal issue.” If there were enough true conservatives in state political office something could and would get done about the billions being spent on people who should not be in this country to begin with.

What amazes me is the California residents have spoken, unequivocally, no more taxes, yet these same people continue to vote Democrats into office, the party which is directly responsible for the sad shape the state is and has been in for years. What in the hell is the matter with these knuckleheads?

Judge releases 12 year old Texas girl from custody pending trial for shooting her father in the back of the head.

A 12-year-old Katy girl charged with murder in the shooting death of her father last month will remain free until her case goes to trial, a Harris County juvenile judge ruled this afternoon. In a closed hearing, State District Judge Michael Schneider heard evidence the teen would be supervised by her stepmother and her stepmother’s parents, the girl’s attorney, Windi Akins Pastorini, said.

Somali pirates have figured out a way to take advantage of the lax asylum and immigration laws in Europe. Just get captured!

Pirates captured after attacking a Dutch vessel have gone on trial in the liberal Netherlands and at least two of them have declared their intention to stay on as residents. Geert-Jan Knoops, an international criminal law attorney and professor at the Royal University of Utrecht, has suggested that the Dutch trial might encourage pirates to surrender just in order to seek a better life in Western countries. “These trials may trigger other pirates to let themselves be arrested on purpose,” he told the Volkskrant newspaper.

Obama backtracks on yet another campaign promise as he declares the policy of don’t ask, don’t tell for gays in the military will remain as is.

The Pentagon says it has no plans to repeal the don’t ask-don’t tell policy for gay troops. Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell said Tuesday that the military’s top leaders have only had initial discussions with the White House about whether gay troops should be open about their sexuality. Under current rules, openly gay troops can be discharged from the U.S. military. Morrell said the White House has not asked for the 1993 policy to be scrapped.

Obama tells Congress, Gitmo detainees will have to be brought onto U.S. soil and that’s just the way it’s going to be.

In an escalation of arguments over closing a prison facility at Guantanamo Bay, a top Pentagon official says members of Congress must rethink their opposition to accepting these detainees into the United States. Michele Flournoy is President Barack Obama’s new Pentagon policy chief. She says members of Congress need to remember that closing the stigmatized prison in Cuba will mean hard choices for everyone. She spoke after Senate Democrats said they won’t pay for closure until the administration delivers a satisfactory plan for what to do with the detainees.

HP to lay off 6,400 employees over the next year.

As a gauge of how personal computer sales are faring, Hewlett-Packard Co.’s quarterly results clouded the issue rather than provided clarity. HP’s profit dropped 17 percent to $1.72 billion and sales fell 3 percent to $27.4 billion in its fiscal second quarter, dragged down by lighter sales in two key areas — PCs and printer ink. The company also announced more layoffs: some 6,400 workers, or 2 percent of HP’s global staff of 321,000, will lose their jobs over the next year as the company shrinks its product divisions.

Obama Kicks Nevada Governor To The Curb

asshat_obama-copy

Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons was hoping to have a little verbal mano y mano with Barack Hussein Obama over some comments he made earlier this year saying companies should not be taking business trips to Las Vegas if they received taxpayer bailout money.

Obama will be in Las Vegas next week to help raise some cash for embattled Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s reelection bid but has rejected the governor’s demand for a sit down pow wow. According to Governor Gibbons the Las Vegas economy has lost over $100 million due to Obama’s idiotic statements and he was looking for an opportunity to let the president know just how he felt about the situation.

From Fox News.com,

Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons has been denied a meeting with President Obama when he is in town next week to attend a fundraiser for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

Gibbons, a Republican, had demanded a sit-down meeting following Obama’s controversial statement that companies shouldn’t book trips to Las Vegas if they have received federal bailouts and claims statements he made that were critical to Nevada and have caused economic damage to convention business and tourism business in the Silver State.

“I’m shocked the president would make a remark like that and then do nothing, including meeting with the governor in an attempt to repair the damage that his remarks caused,” Gibbons told FOX News’ Neil Cavuto Tuesday.

In a statement Gibbons put out Monday, the governor said Obama’s quote that “you can’t get corporate jets. You can’t go take a trip to Las Vegas or go down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayer’s dime” was seen by many as an insult to Las Vegas and as a message to companies across the nation to stay away from Las Vegas for corporate meetings and conventions.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reports over 400 conventions and business meetings scheduled to take place in Las Vegas recently have cancelled, translating into 111,800 guests and 250,000 “room-nights,” according to a statement from Gibbons. The cancelled events cost the Las Vegas economy over $100 million, not including gaming revenue, the governor said.

Obama has no problem yucking it up and meeting with dictator thugs like Hugo Chavez and Daniel Ortega while they go about ripping and insulting our country but have a chat with one of our governors who’s state has been heavily financially damaged because of his big mouth? Not a chance.

San Francisco Declares Handgun Ban Legal Despite Supreme Court Ruling To The Contrary

2a_flag-copy

In June 2008 the U.S. Supreme Court handed down their decision in DC v Heller (by the way Dick Anthony Heller is a Special Police Officer at the DC Federal Judicial Center) that the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution ensures an individual citizens’ right to possess firearms for private use.

Justice Antonin Scalia delivered the majority opinion of the Court,

….. the inherent right of self-defense has been central to the Second Amendment right. The [DC] handgun ban amounts to a prohibition of an entire class of “arms” that is overwhelmingly chosen by American society for that lawful purpose. The prohibition extends, moreover, to the home, where the need for defense of self, family, and property is most acute. Under any of the standards of scrutiny that we have applied to enumerated constitutional rights, banning from the home “the most preferred firearm in the nation to ‘keep’ and use for protection of one’s home and family” would fail constitutional muster. (emphasis added)

In sum, we hold that the District’s ban on handgun possession in the home violates the Second Amendment , as does its prohibition against rendering any lawful firearm in the home operable for the purpose of immediate self-defense. Assuming that Heller is not disqualified from the exercise of Second Amendment rights, the District must permit him to register his handgun and must issue him a license to carry it in the home.

We are aware of the problem of handgun violence in this country, and we take seriously the concerns raised by the many amici who believe that prohibition of handgun ownership is a solution. The Constitution leaves the District of Columbia a variety of tools for combating that problem, including some measures regulating handguns. But the enshrinement of constitutional rights necessarily takes certain policy choices off the table. These include the absolute prohibition of handguns held and used for self-defense in the home. Undoubtedly some think that the Second Amendment is outmoded in a society where our standing army is the pride of our Nation, where well-trained police forces provide personal security, and where gun violence is a serious problem. That is perhaps debatable, but what is not debatable is that it is not the role of this Court to pronounce the Second Amendment extinct.

We affirm the judgment of the Court of Appeals.

It is so ordered.

As far as the statement,“where well-trained police forces provide personal security,” is concerned most anti-Second Amendment people love to try and hang their hat on that concept as a reason for banning firearms. However that argument was blown out of the water when the very same Justice Scalia wrote in 2005 a majority opinion which basically stated law enforcement personnel in this country have absolutely no Constitutional obligation to protect individual citizens from harm or attack.

That’s right folks, the responsibility for saving your own rear end is entirely up to you.

Thomas Bros. celebrating this news. We may have to go back to reading maps in this country.

It has become one of the staples of modern, hi-tech life: using satellite navigation tools built into your car or mobile phone to find your way from A to B. But experts have warned that the system may be close to breakdown. US government officials are concerned that the quality of the Global Positioning System (GPS) could begin to deteriorate as early as next year, resulting in regular blackouts and failures – or even dishing out inaccurate directions to millions of people worldwide.

Bill Clinton’s new gig? U.N. declares him to be the new special ambassador to Haiti. I wonder how much money this is going to wind up costing American taxpayers?

Former President Bill Clinton, who has pledged his philanthropic weight to help a storm ravaged Haiti, has been named a special envoy to the Caribbean nation on behalf of the United Nations. The appointment comes two months after Clinton visited Haiti alongside U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in an effort to raise global attention to the country’s halting efforts to rebuild following a string of storms that wreaked havoc on the Haitian economy, its nine million citizens and its already fragile landscape.

He was being held on $1 million bail on unspecified felony charges.

Old Republican males are some happy campers indeed.

Americans grow happier as they age, surveys find. And a new Pew Research Center survey shows the tendency is holding up as the economy tanks. Happiness is a complex thing. Past studies have found that happiness is partly inherited, that Republicans are happier than Democrats, and that old men tend to be happier than old women. And even before the economy got nasty, seniors were found to be generally happier than Baby Boomers. Some of that owes to the American Dream being lived by past generations, while Boomers work two jobs and watch the dream wither.

Iraqi war vet manages to survive the horrors of Fallujah but loses his life to a knife wielding woman in a bar parking lot.

Iraq war veteran Adam Pearce survived Fallujah, scene of some of the U.S. military’s bloodiest urban combat since Vietnam. But the ex-Marine lost his life early Sunday morning trying to stop a fight in the parking lot of a Tucker cocktail lounge. DeKalb County Police say his killer was a knife-wielding female who remains at large. “He looked mean as hell, but underneath he had a heart of gold,” said Pearce’s mother, Pam Hayes, of Macon. “He’d help anyone, and that’s how he died.”

Something really screwy with this story. 15 year old “middle school” student takes a shot at teacher, misses, shoots himself in the head.

A 15-year-old middle school student in rural southeastern Louisiana fired a gunshot at an English teacher before class began and then shot himself in the head in an unsuccessful suicide attempt, local authorities said. In his backpack, a journal had detailed plans on how the student planned to commit his crimes, including where to enter the school and in which bathroom to “gear up,” according to Sgt. Lesley Peters, a Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s spokeswoman. “Ya’ll will die,” the student wrote in the journal, Peters said. “I will commit suicide after the killings ha ha ha.”

[Why is a 15 year old kid in middle school? And I hope the parents of this kid get hammered for allowing their son to gain access to the firearm he used to gravely injure himself and scare the crap out of a bunch of people….ed]

Traffic Law Violators May Soon Be Fingerprinted In Tennessee

traffic_stop-copy

Two Democrats in Tennessee have sponsored legislation that will allow police departments throughout the state to mandate fingerprinting of traffic law violators when they are stopped and cited by an officer. Instead of the traditional release-upon-signature method used virtually everywhere in this country Tennesseans are looking at being forced to give their fingerprint during traffic stops if the bill, which has already made it through the House, passes the Senate and is signed into law by the Democrat Governor Phil Bredesen.

The reasoning behind the push for fingerprinting motorists who are stopped for traffic violations is said to be a much more efficient way to nab people who are wanted on criminal warrants, those who have stolen another person’s identity and folks providing false information to police officers.

A traffic violation citation is actually an arrest and release on one’s own recognizance by the officer as long as the person signs the ticket. If someone refuses to sign the citation they will, in virtually every instance, wind up getting arrested and taken down to the local pokey so most folks save themselves the hassle and just sign the “promise to appear” while not admitting they are guilty of the offense. Those who refuse to submit a fingerprint under the new law will also be arrested then fingerprinted once they get to the police station so there is obviously no incentive to resist the process.

Many who oppose this legislation are concerned about their privacy and are worried about the compilation of fingerprints into a government database even though some law enforcement officials in Tennessee claim prints will not be collected and stored. Personally I cannot believe they would spend the necessary funds for the fingerprinting technology and not hang onto all of the data they will collect. Everyone knows information is golden especially government agencies.

Somewhat irritatingly a lieutenant with the Green Bay Wisconsin police department, which has been snagging traffic violators’ fingerprints for the last two years, says anyone concerned about giving up their fingerprints during a traffic stop “were likely the ones who were doing something wrong.” Nice attitude there Mr. Public Servant.

WSJ Declares Firearm Control Debate Pretty Much Over

nra-copy

I happened upon a Wall Street Journal editorial today describing how the left wing Democrats have lost the debate on “gun control.” (Man I hate that term. It should be called “society control” because that is truly what the modern liberals are all about.)

The column spoke of the recent passage by the U.S. Senate of an amendment sponsored by Oklahoma Republican Tom Coburn which states: “Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens on 83,600,000 acres of National Park System land and 90,790,000 acres of land under the jurisdiction of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service . . . . should not be infringed.” The amendment does not call for allowing people to use the national parks for target shooting or hunting and is intended to allow citizens to carry a firearm for self defense purposes if they choose to do so. “If an American citizen has a right to carry a firearm in their state, it makes no sense to treat them like a criminal if they pass through a national park while in possession of a firearm,” Coburn said.

This amendment was attached to H.R 627, the Credit Cardholders Bill of Rights Act of 2009.

Keep in mind the Senate has only voted to allow the amendment to be attached to the credit card bill, it did not pass the entire bill as new legislation awaiting Barack Obama’s signature so that it would became the law of the land. There is still the strong possibility of the amendment being stripped from the final credit card bill that will wind up on Obama’s desk.

Naturally the wacky anti Second Amendment nuts are wringing their hands and gnashing their teeth over the possibility American citizens can drive from a state park on one side of the street, where it may be perfectly legal to possess and carry firearms depending on the state, to the other side of the road that happens to be a national park and still carry their gun. Evidently these idiots think something will instantly change within someone, who is legally able to carry a firearm within their state, once they step onto federal property and they will suddenly start blasting away at bird watching tour groups or shooting willy nilly at anything that moves in the park just for fun.

On a regular basis, NewsBusters has warned readers of the infiltration into traditional media outlets content written by left-wing bloggers. On Sunday, New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd was accused of plagiarizing a piece posted a few days prior by Josh Marshall of the liberal website Talking Points Memo. Dowd has now admitted her mistake.

This is right up Obama’s alley. British town councils recruiting people, some as young as seven years old, to rat on their neighbors.

Children as young as seven are being recruited by councils to act as ‘citizen snoopers’, the Daily Mail can reveal. The ‘environment volunteers’ will report on litter louts, noisy neighbours – and even families putting their rubbish out on the wrong day. There are currently almost 9,000 people signed up to the schemes. More are likely to be recruited in the coming months. Controversially, some councils are running ‘junior’ schemes which are recruiting children.

Swine flu spreading rapidly in Japan.

APAN’S number of confirmed swine flu cases soared to 93 at the weekend, officials say, as senior health officials gathered in Geneva for talks on containing the spread of the virus. Most of the infections were reported among high school and college students in and around the western cities of Kobe and Osaka, where authorities have ordered more than 1000 schools and kindergartens to stay shut today. “I don’t know specifics about the cases but judging from confirmed cases the infection is likely to be spreading to hundreds of people,” Japanese virologist Masato Tashiro told public broadcaster NHK said.

Hundreds of volunteers to read off names of 148,000 veterans buried at the Riverside National Cemetery during Roll Call Project leading up to Memorial Day.

One thing was certain at the start of the Roll Call Project at the Riverside National Cemetery. There would be more than enough volunteers there for the week it will take to read the names of every one of the 148,000 veterans buried there. More than 500 men, women and teenagers signed up to be one of those to recite the names 24 hours a day, every day from Saturday, Armed Forces Day, to May 25, Memorial Day. When the project was announced, volunteer coordinator Danielle Segura said she was flooded with telephone calls and e-mails.

WolframAlpha up and running. Aims to become the ultimate in search capabilities by answering queries directly rather than sending searchers to various websites.

I have spent the weekend playing around with the new search engine project WolframAlpha. After months of preview hype, the new “computational knowledge engine” had a rolling launch on Friday, accompanied by a couple of hiccups mostly to do with dealing with the amount of traffic heading its way, and the service launches officially to the public tomorrow. Is it any good and will it fulfill the breathless talk of it being a Google Killer? The answers are emphatically yes and no.

Some people just make you shake your head as they throw their lives down the drain over a seriously misguided relationship.

A prison psychologist lost her job last month after shooting her lover, a convicted felon recently released from the minimum-security facility where she worked. Kristel K. Rider shot Lamount K. And the two apparently have reconciled. Air Force staff sergeant spots fuels leak while flying on commercial airliner, notifies pilots. Probably saved the lives of over 300 people.

Most of us hear stories of Airmen saving lives in combat, but an Airman who saves the lives of more than 300 passengers is definitely a story worth hearing. After alerting the pilots and aircrew, the ranking pilot made the decision to divert the flight to San Francisco. “I noticed the leak on the left side of the aircraft right behind the wing earlier during take-off,” said Sergeant Bachleda.

Knucklehead Joe Biden reveals there is a hidden bunker under vice president’s residence intended to protect the veep in event of an attack on the country. Was supposed to be a classified secret.

Vice President Joe Biden, well-known for his verbal gaffes, may have finally outdone himself, divulging potentially classified information meant to save the life of a sitting vice president. According to a report, while recently attending the Gridiron Club dinner in Washington, an annual event where powerful politicians and media elite get a chance to cozy up to one another, Biden told his dinnermates about the existence of a secret bunker under the old U.S. Naval Observatory, which is now the home of the vice president.

Pfizer to provide free prescription medicine for newly unemployed workers who have lost their health insurance, with additional qualifications of course.

Pfizer Inc. is offering as much as a year of free medicine, such as the Lipitor cholesterol pill and Viagra for sexual dysfunction, to Americans who lost jobs and health insurance. The program covers more than 70 medicines for people who can demonstrate unemployment since Jan. 1, have no drug insurance and were taking a Pfizer product for at least three months before the job loss, the New York-based drugmaker said today in a statement. Jorge Puente, regional president for worldwide pharmaceuticals, suggested the program a month ago to help the 46 million Americans without health insurance, Pfizer said.
