Obama Administration Overturns 18 Year Ban On Photos Of War Dead But Media Not Interested Now

I do. It was a weak ass attempt to make George W. Bush and Dick Cheney look like war mongering maniacs who didn’t care about the body count as long as we were killin’ Iraqi civilians and getting free oil, at least according to the paid propagandists on the left that is.

usatoday.com–The Obama administration said Thursday it will lift an 18-year ban on coverage of the return of military members killed in war by allowing families of the fallen to decide whether the news media may photograph the flag-covered caskets.

“We should not presume to make the decision for the families,” Defense Secretary Robert Gates said. “We should actually let them make it.”

As President Bush’s Defense chief, Gates said, he had looked into lifting the ban on coffins at Delaware’s Dover Air Force Base, where fallen troops arrive for transfer to their hometowns.

Back then, Gates said, he deferred to Pentagon advisers who said letting the news media take pictures might compel families to travel to Dover to be there to receive their loved ones’ remains rather than wait for them to arrive home. It was also to protect the privacy of grieving families, he was told.

“I was never comfortable” with the justification, Gates said Thursday. (SNIP)

Democrats tried to lift the ban that year but were rebuffed by the Republican-controlled Congress. Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., said at the time that the ban was an attempt to “conceal from the American people the true costs of this war”…..

Conceal from the American people the true cost of war huh? Is that what Obama is trying to do now that he owns that miserable deadly grinder in Afghanistan that leave many wondering just what the relevance of this war is to this country?

By the way, where are all the Code Pink moonbats? Where are all the MoveOn.org lunatics? Why isn’t that loopy Cindy Sheehan pitching a tent down the road from Obama’s house in Chicago? Coincidently all of these knuckleheads are funded by that America hating cretin George Soros. For those who haven’t figured it out yet our young men and women are being used by the George Soros, Maurice Strong, David Rockefeller cabal to run their little world manipulation game with the full cooperation of the Obama administration.

Byron York, the chief political correspondent for washingtonexaminer.com dug a little deeper into this issue today:

washingtonexaminer.com–Remember the controversy over the Pentagon policy of not allowing the press to take pictures of the flag-draped caskets of American war dead as they arrived in the United States? Critics accused President Bush of trying to hide the terrible human cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“These young men and women are heroes,” Vice President Biden said in 2004, when he was senator from Delaware. “The idea that they are essentially snuck back into the country under the cover of night so no one can see that their casket has arrived, I just think is wrong.”

In April of this year, the Obama administration lifted the press ban, which had been in place since the Persian Gulf War in 1991. Media outlets rushed to cover the first arrival of a fallen U.S. serviceman, and many photographers came back for the second arrival, and then the third.

But after that, the impassioned advocates of showing the true human cost of war grew tired of the story…….

Now that they have their hero in the White House the state run liberal media appear to have collectively decided they’d rather not show the American people the true cost of this Afghanistan fiasco that is claiming the lives of this country’s sons at an alarming rate lest it hurt their guy politically. Little wonder why Øbama is talking about using our money to bail out his buddies in what’s left of the shriveling old media.

Ain’t it great our side has Andrew Breitbart?
