Barack Obama Says A Big Thank You To Michael Jackson–Governor Mark Sanford

Hiding behind over two days of this non stop televised hoopla surrounding the death of pop music icon, drug user and suspected child molester Michael Jackson and admitted adulterer Mark Sanford, this cap and TAX nonsense, purportedly brought about to address all this clearly debatable climate change crap, is being pushed through Congress by Democrats desperate to hand their president a major “legislative victory” and put a smile on the faces of the radical environmentalists who are hell bent on destroying the ability of this country to produce enough affordable energy to serve the needs of the populace. Yes that’s the reality folks, the American people take it up the kiester and all the leftists celebrate and call that a fabulous thing.

The fact of the matter is the Obama administration has been caught red handed squelching disagreement even within its own Environmental Protection Agency over data the agency used to come up with its findings that “greenhouse gases endanger public health and welfare.” This “endangerment” finding by the EPA is what the Congressional Democrats considered their green light to aggressively move forward with this cap and trade legislation.

Two U.S. EPA career employees detailed their concerns about the science underpinning the agency’s “endangerment” finding in a report released last night by a conservative think tank. Republican lawmakers have blasted EPA for failing to release the document, accusing the Obama administration of suppressing dissenting views for political purposes. But EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson says the agency considered a broad range of opinions and maintained an open and transparent process in developing the proposed finding that greenhouse gases endanger public health and welfare.

Dissent on the proposal was expressed in a March 16 report (pdf) by Alan Carlin and John Davidson of EPA’s National Center for Environmental Economics. They raise questions about data that EPA used to develop the proposed finding. The Washington-based Competitive Enterprise Institute posted the document on its Web site last night.

“While we hoped that EPA would release the final report, we’re tired of waiting for this agency to become transparent, even though its administrator has been talking transparency since she took office,” said CEI attorney Sam Kazman. “So we are releasing a draft version of the report ourselves, today.”

I had written a couple of posts awhile back here and here concerning this cap and trade scheme and the basics of how it works and today is the day the House is scheduled to vote on the reported 1,500 page bill that was dumped on the members less than 24 hours ago. Sounds just like how that fraudulent “stimulus” bill got shoved down the American taxpayers’ throat doesn’t it?

Today The Wall Street Journal opined,

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has put cap-and-trade legislation on a forced march through the House, and the bill may get a full vote as early as Friday. It looks as if the Democrats will have to destroy the discipline of economics to get it done.

Despite House Energy and Commerce Chairman Henry Waxman’s many payoffs to Members, rural and Blue Dog Democrats remain wary of voting for a bill that will impose crushing costs on their home-district businesses and consumers. The leadership’s solution to this problem is to simply claim the bill defies the laws of economics.

Their gambit got a boost this week, when the Congressional Budget Office did an analysis of what has come to be known as the Waxman-Markey bill. According to the CBO, the climate legislation would cost the average household only $175 a year by 2020. Edward Markey, Mr. Waxman’s co-author, instantly set to crowing that the cost of upending the entire energy economy would be no more than a postage stamp a day for the average household. Amazing. A closer look at the CBO analysis finds that it contains so many caveats as to render it useless.

No more than a postage stamp every day? Nice focus group approved rhetoric there champ but in fact estimates of what this disaster will actually cost the people of this country probably look a lot more like this,

The 1,200-plus page Waxman-Markey climate change legislation is nothing more than an energy tax in disguise that by 2035 will raise:

* Gasoline prices by 58 percent
* Natural gas prices by 55 percent
* Home heating oil by 56 percent
* Worst of all, electricity prices by 90 percent

(SNIP)

It Kills Jobs: Over the 2012-2035 timeline, job losses average over 1.1 million. By 2035, a projected 2.5 million jobs are lost below the baseline (without a cap and trade bill). Particularly hard-hit are sectors of the economy that are very energy-intensive: Manufacturers, farmers, construction, machinery, electrical equipment and appliances, transportation, textiles, paper products, chemicals, plastics and rubbers, and retail trade would face staggering employment losses as a result of Waxman-Markey. It’s worth noting the job losses come after accounting for the green jobs policymakers are so adamant about creating. But don’t worry, because the architects of the bill built in unemployment insurance; too bad it will only help 1.5% of those losing their jobs from the bill.

It Destroys Our Economy: Just about everything we do and produce uses energy. As energy prices increase, those costs will be passed onto the consumer and reflected in the higher prices we pay for products. Higher energy prices will cause reduced income, less production, and an economy that falls way short of its potential. The average Gross Domestic Product (GDP) lost is $393 billion, hitting a high of $662 billion in 2035. From 2012-2035, the accumulated GDP lost is $9.4 trillion. The negative economic impacts accumulate, and the national debt is no exception. The increase in family-of-four debt, solely because of Waxman-Markey, hits an almost unbelievable $114,915 by 2035.

Of course NOBODY knows everything that is contained within this monstrosity but some of the things that have trickled out indicate such nonsense as the U.S. paying other countries to not cut down trees in their country, the U.S. imposing stiff tariffs on carbon-intensive imports if the originating country doesn’t have their own heavily restrictive emission reduction measures in place and forcing every state in the country to adopt California’s economy strangling building code standards.

For an outstanding and exhaustive long term look at what this mess will bring to America please read this report from the Heritage Foundation.

For more insight into what most of this scam is really all about look what the U.K. Prime Minister Gordon Brown had to say yesterday.

Gordon Brown tried to break the deadlock over climate change yesterday by proposing the creation of a £60 billion international fund to help poorer countries adapt to the situation. He also raised the prospect that higher air fares could play a part in the worldwide effort to combat global warming.

Among the methods for raising finance to be explored, he said, aviation and maritime emissions should be brought into the Copenhagen agreement — a new concordat that leaders hope will be approved in December.

Making his proposal to help the developing nations adopt clean technology, Mr Brown said it was time to think not in terms of the political and economic cycles, but of “epochs and eras”, of how today’s stewardship by the leading countries would be seen by “tomorrow’s children”.

Proposals to tax flights and shipping, or include them in emissions trading schemes, are likely to be some of the most difficult to negotiate. Unveiling Britain’s manifesto for Copenhagen, the Prime Minister said advanced countries must provide assistance to developing nations to enable their economies to grow while adapting to the changing global climate.

Now that Obama and Pelosi have threatened and twisted the arms of enough Democrats who were leaning against voting for this Obamination to change their minds, reports have just now come in the cap and trade taxing scheme, which will cost millions of Americans their livelihood and take a major hit on everyone’s bank account, has passed the House with a loud cheer from the majority. That said a bunch of the people who will certainly lose their jobs over this thing will include many of the Congressional knuckleheads who just voted for this thing to pass.

By the way the eight “Republicans” who voted yea on this piece of foolishness would be:

Bono Mack (CA)– 202-225-5330
Castle (DE)– 202-225-4165
Kirk (IL)– 202-225-4835
Lance (NJ)– 202-225-5361
Lobiondo (NJ)– 202-225-6572
McHugh (NY)– 202-225-4611
Reichart (WA)– 202-225-7761
Chris Smith (NJ)– 202-225-3765

The fight moves on to the Senate where common sense middle America will have a much stronger opportunity to kill this huge taxing scheme than in the House where the urban and far left areas of the country are much more heavily represented.

I thought it might be a grand idea to close this thing out on a bit of a lighter note since it is the weekend…
