Publisher Of The Las Vegas Review Journal Has Had Enough Of Obama

Sherman Frederick, publisher of the Las Vegas Review Journal and president of Stephens Media has officially run his once highly prized Barack Obama Fan Club membership card right through his fancy pants office shredder and moved on over to the other side of the aisle. The Review Journal recently made national news when it was disclosed the company received a federal subpoena in regards to comments made after they ran a story concerning the trial of a local businessman.

Is this truly a philosophical political shift for Frederick and or an astute business maneuver? Clearly, ever since Barack Obama came skipping down the street lollipop in hand, the liberal media has been exposed for what it really is, nothing more than the propaganda arm of the Democrat party, and we consumers of the news have quickly grown weary of the blatant over the top bias displayed by these leftists commentators, editors and reporters on a daily basis. Not that they have a vested interest in the Democrats….oh no not at all.

An analysis of federal records shows that the amount of money journalists contributed so far this election cycle favors Democrats by a 15:1 ratio over Republicans, with $225,563 going to Democrats, only $16,298 to Republicans .

Two-hundred thirty-five journalists donated to Democrats, just 20 gave to Republicans — a margin greater than 10-to-1. An even greater disparity, 20-to-1, exists between the number of journalists who donated to Barack Obama and John McCain.

Searches for other newsroom categories (reporters, correspondents, news editors, anchors, newspaper editors and publishers) produces 311 donors to Democrats to 30 donors to Republicans, a ratio of just over 10-to-1. In terms of money, $279,266 went to Dems, $20,709 to Republicans, a 14-to-1 ratio.

One way consumers have made the liberal news media aware of their disgust with their one sided “reporting” is by canceling newspaper subscriptions in record numbers. When circulation numbers plummet so does the advertising revenue and without advertising the newspaper publishing business is unsustainable. Who the heck would be foolish enough to pay exorbitant rates to advertise in a publication that is losing readers by the thousands?

An excellent example of the deep hole the liberally biased newspapers have dug for themselves would be the case of the once grand New York Times which was forced to sell off several floors of its headquarters building (then lease it back) and borrow $250 million dollars in early 2009 from Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, who agreed to the deal even though he had lost a chunk on his previous $120 million investment in the company. The NYTimes is bleeding red ink, they are a billion dollars in debt, shares of NYT stock were trading at less than the price of their Sunday edition recently, yet they continue to slog along that trail of slobbering all over Obama and everything he represents without a hint of objectivity. I reckon it’s because they are banking on a federal government bailout, a concept being pushed, interestingly enough, by the leftists who still haven’t quite figured out how free market forces really work.

The NYTimes is just one example of a slew of left wing news publications that are in dire financial straits and have slashed staff and sold off assets in an effort to keep their heads above water or have simply folded up shop and quit the business altogether.

It is indisputable that the now quickly shrinking print media was taken over by leftists years ago, much like the educational system in this country, however the same cannot be said about cable news and talk radio where conservatives dominate. Media markets, by the way, which happen to be growing in leaps and bounds.

According to, out of the top 10 talk radio shows, the first nine slots belong to conservatives.

It’s the same story for cable news networks. shows how Fox News is absolutely hammering CNN and msnbc, two enthusiastic water carriers for the Obama administration, across the board in every prime time time slot.

The number one non fiction hardcover book on the New York Times best seller list for 11 out of the last 12 weeks? “Liberty and Tyranny, A Conservative Manifesto” by Mark R. Levin, who is currently hovering at number 11 in the talk radio market.

Who’s sitting at the top of the book selling heap over at Why conservative libertarian Glenn Beck with his latest offering, “Glenn Beck’s Common Sense: The Case Against an Out-of-Control Government, Inspired by Thomas Paine.” Number two? Mark R. Levin’s book.

In addition a recent Gallup poll shows 40% of Americans identify themselves as conservatives while only half that many admitted they were liberals.

Hmmm, Sherman Frederick just might be on to something with his switching of political parties.

From the Las Vegas Review Journal we can take a look at what Frederick says were the reasons for him abandoning Obama’s party and sliding on over to the right side of the political spectrum,

Why I dumped Obama’s party

I was on political easy street as a Democrat.

President Obama, the party head, is a political rock star in America and a near-god in Amsterdam and Cairo.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is portrayed as grown too big to fail, and he’s convinced everyone who’s anyone in my home city of Las Vegas to join him on the Obama freight train to socialism. Next stop: Rationed health care, union card check and $10-a-gallon gasoline. All aboard!

Democrats own Washington, D.C., as well as the Nevada Legislature.

Meanwhile, Nevada’s Republican “Luv Guv,” Jim Gibbons, couldn’t be on a more prolonged hard-luck streak. He’s in the divorce from hell with the first lady, who for a time holed herself up in the Governor’s Mansion; his staff regularly jumps ship; and rumor has it that the governor’s dog has obtained a restraining order.

And, lest we forget, Nevada’s most popular Republican, Sen. John Ensign, shook the party faithful by admitting to a nine-month roll in the hay with the wife of his good friend.

Nope, I don’t think I could have picked a worse time to go Republican. However, because KXNT-AM radio’s Alan Stock revealed my party switch last week, I feel the need to explain.

First, I’m not trying to time anything. Enough was enough. Could stand no more. So, when it came time to renew my driver’s license on June 9, I also gave the Democratic Party the pink slip.
