GM Plan To Increase Imports Inspires Senators To Issue Warning To Geithner

It’s going to happen as sure as the sun will come up tomorrow and Congressional Senators have finally figured it out. The U.S. taxpayers will be spreading the wealth around to foreign countries just as soon as GM begins stocking U.S. dealerships with thousands of vehicles built elsewhere.

It was inevitable and just about anyone with more than a couple of functioning brain cells could have seen this scenario coming. Domestic automakers could not continue to pay union workers $70+ an hour in salary and benefits and expect to ever see profitability again. Bankruptcy was the only way out of the mess the automakers have found themselves and this path should have been taken long before billions of taxpayer dollars were used to pay back political supporters of Obama and the Democrats through phony bailout schemes.

Just like they did with the banks Obama and his gang will likely not accept repayment of the taxpayer funds funneled through GM to the unions, no doubt because they know the money could never have been repaid anyway, and instead are angling to eventually take majority ownership of the company. This way the government can dictate the type of product produced and foisted upon the American public and there isn’t a damn thing we can do about it. You may want to hang onto that full size pickup truck or SUV as you can bet availability of these vehicles will soon be a thing of the past.

The Senate Banking Committee sat down for a chat with tax cheater and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner to express their concerns about what they believe (know) is coming, a huge increase of imported vehicles by GM, warning Geithner of the “firestorm” that will result if (when) this happens.

Key senators warned Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner today that the administration faced a “firestorm” if General Motors Corp. was allowed to boost imports from foreign countries while receiving billions of dollars in government aid.

Geithner, speaking to the Senate Banking Committee, said the Obama administration was “trying very carefully” not to get involved in decisions by GM and Chrysler LLC to close plants or cut dealerships as part of their government-funded turnaround. The UAW had attacked GM’s plans to boost imports from China, Mexico and South Korea through 2014 while closing 16 plants in the United States and shedding 21,000 U.S. manufacturing jobs.

“If it was a firestorm in this country when we give billions to banks and they pay huge bonuses, you haven’t seen anything yet for what’s going to happen if we put billions in auto companies and they open plants in China,” said Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio.

Geithner defended the administration’s work, saying it was making “extraordinary” efforts to save the domestic auto industry, and that the plans for GM would become clearer in the coming weeks.

“Our job is to make sure that the overall plan leaves these companies in a position where over the longer term they emerge viable,” he said.

Geithner says “the Obama administration was “trying very carefully” not to get involved in decisions by GM and Chrysler LLC to close plants or cut dealerships as part of their government-funded turnaround” but I have read several instances of dealers who will be losing their Chrysler franchises wondering why they were chosen when their businesses were doing just fine only to see some nearby new kid on the block get to keep their dealership.

Forgive my skepticism if I fail to believe there are no Chicago thug politics being applied here and the administration isn’t eyeball deep in the process of which dealerships will be shuttered especially after hearing Obama and Geithner recently decided to chop Chrysler’s advertising efforts in half. How in the world could people with absolutely no business background tell a company how much they can spend on advertising? Obama doesn’t care about these companies, we all know he’s never run a business in his life, this backbencher-nobody-just-a-few-years-ago thrives on the power he now has over the lives of so many people.

And just how have the lives of American citizens been affected by the deliberate actions Obama and his crew have been taking to destroy our economy?

Take a look at this “letter to the editor” from George C. Joseph owner of Sunshine Dodge-Isuzu in Florida.

My name is George C. Joseph. I am the sole owner of Sunshine Dodge-Isuzu, a family owned and operated business in Melbourne, Florida. My family bought and paid for this automobile franchise 35 years ago in 1974. I am the second generation to manage this business.

We currently employ 50+ people and before the economic slowdown we employed over 70 local people. We are active in the community and the local chamber of commerce. We deal with several dozen local vendors on a day to day basis and many more during a month. All depend on our business for part of their livelihood. We are financially strong with great respect in the market place and community. We have strong local presence and stability.

I work every day the store is open, nine to ten hours a day. I know most of our customers and all our employees. Sunshine Dodge is my life.

On Thursday, May 14, 2009 I was notified that my Dodge franchise, that we purchased, will be taken away from my family on June 9, 2009 without compensation and given to another dealer at no cost to them. My new vehicle inventory consists of 125 vehicles with a financed balance of 3 million dollars. This inventory becomes impossible to sell with no factory incentives beyond June 9, 2009. Without the Dodge franchise we can no longer sell a new Dodge as “new,” nor will we be able to do any warranty service work. Additionally, my Dodge parts inventory, (approximately $300,000.) is virtually worthless without the ability to perform warranty service. There is no offer from Chrysler to buy back the vehicles or parts inventory.

Our facility was recently totally renovated at Chrysler’s insistence, incurring a multi-million dollar debt in the form of a mortgage at Sun Trust Bank.

This is beyond imagination! My business is being stolen from me through NO FAULT OF OUR OWN. We did NOTHING wrong.

This atrocity will most likely force my family into bankruptcy. This will also cause our 50+ employees to be unemployed. How will they provide for their families? This is a total economic disaster.

I beseech your help, and look forward to your reply. Thank you.

Just a thought but maybe all of these dealers that have been or will be directly affected by Obama’s actions could band together and take a serious look into his eligibility to hold the office of president since it is obvious he doesn’t qualify under Article II Section 1 of our U.S. Constitution.
