FBI's Operation Vigilant Eagle Looking Into Returning Military Veterans

First we hear about the Department of Homeland Security informing law enforcement agencies nationwide that groups of angry white guys were a major threat to cause some serious problems around the country because they really like the Constitution just the way it is, don’t care for the fact that our borders are as wide open as Pamela Anderson’s ankles, don’t care for the fact the government is spending their great great grandkids into oblivion 40 years before they are even born, don’t care for the fact the Obama administration–led by the most liberal former member of Congress who once proclaimed all handguns should be banned–is stocked with the most anti Second Amendment gang we have seen since the Clinton years (oh wait, they are pretty much all retreads from the Clinton administration) and are basically fed up with an overbearing federal government that has kicked state’s rights to the curb. Oh and the report said all these angry white guys are terribly upset that a half black guy is now president of the country.

So just what kind of specific information does this DHS document provide to law enforcement when it comes to these roving packs of angry white guys?

(U) Key Findings

(U//LES) The DHS/Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A) has no specific information that domestic rightwing terrorists are currently planning acts of violence, but rightwing extremists may be gaining new recruits by playing on their fears about several emergent issues. The economic downturn and the election of the first African American president present unique drivers for rightwing radicalization and recruitment.

(U//LES) Threats from white supremacist and violent antigovernment groups during 2009 have been largely rhetorical and have not indicated plans to carry out violent acts. Nevertheless, the consequences of a prolonged economic downturn—including real estate foreclosures, unemployment, and an inability to obtain credit could create a fertile recruiting environment for rightwing extremists and even result in confrontations between such groups and government authorities similar to those in the past.

(U//LES) Rightwing extremists have capitalized on the election of the first African American president, and are focusing their efforts to recruit new members, mobilize existing supporters, and broaden their scope and appeal through propaganda, but they have not yet turned to attack planning.

(Man if I had a beer for every “rightwing” in this report I’d be one drunk puppy right now…ed)

It looks to me like the DHS has nothing but a big heapin’ steamin’ pile of some extremely vague maybe going on here but of course that should be good enough for a major governmental crack down on these angry white guys shouldn’t it?

So what’s up with this F.B.I. Operation Vigilant Eagle? Well it seems the feds have been investigating military members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan in an effort to determine if they were or are a threat to suddenly transform into domestic terrorists for basically the same reasons as the bunch of angry white guys that were outlined above. Evidently the fear is these returning military men (and presumably women too…and I’m guessing, all white) might become so disgustedly disillusioned with the state of affairs in America they will flock to all these militia groups that have been causing nothing but trouble in this country for the last two and a half centuries.

Once the flocking has taken place these fearsome now stateside soldiers, dripping with battle hardened knowledge of how to kill and maim, would become mentors to all the camo clad wannabee weekend warriors, teaching them all the nasty dirty tricks of societal anarchy and mayhem.

At least that is the impression I got after reading this wallstreetjournal.com article,

The Federal Bureau of Investigation earlier this year launched a nationwide operation targeting white supremacists and “militia/sovereign-citizen extremist groups,” including a focus on veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan, according to memos sent from bureau headquarters to field offices.

The initiative, dubbed Operation Vigilant Eagle, was outlined in February, two months before a memo giving a similar warning was issued on April 7 by the Department of Homeland Security.

Disclosure of the DHS memo this week has sparked controversy among some conservatives and veterans groups. Appearing on television talk shows Thursday, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano defended the assessment, but apologized to veterans who saw it as an accusation. (snip)

The aim of the FBI’s effort with the Defense Department, which was rolled into the Vigilant Eagle program, is to “share information regarding Iraqi and Afghanistan war veterans whose involvement in white supremacy and/or militia sovereign citizen extremist groups poses a domestic terrorism threat,” according to the Feb. 23 FBI memo.

Many might wonder just how would the F.B.I. know when soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan have joined a militia or white supremacy group? Does that fact show up on their credit report? Is there a federal form one must fill out when hooking up with these groups? Or perhaps the feds are throwing a blanket over a whole group of men and women and checking all of them out…you know kinda like profiling?

Now I know the name of Timothy McVeigh has been tossed around extensively as an example that men returning home from overseas war zones can become completely unhinged and commit some terrible atrocity in response to say the government being directly involved with the deaths of dozens of American citizens in Waco Texas but other than the Oklahoma City bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah federal building that has been tied to McVeigh I can’t think of any other high profile incidents of former military personnel flipping out along those lines.

That said to this day many people have felt there was much more to the Alfred R. Murrah federal building attack than was revealed by the media…or the government. If one is so inclined they can spend about 15-20 minutes and read through this interesting document written by former Tulsa police officer Craig Roberts that reveals many more details of what happened 19 April 1995, details most Americans are completely unaware of.

Here Representative Peter King (R-NY) makes some great points about these reports handed out to law enforcement which contain no mention about radical Islamics who have set up shop within this country or those working their way through Mexico and across our wide open southern border into the United States.

The Obama administration has gone so far completely over the moon that they no longer refer to terrorist attacks committed by radical Islamics as terrorist attacks. No, the politically correct route is to call them “man made disasters.” Yeah, that should make these whack jobs looking to launch attacks against this country that they hate feel all tingly.

Follow along as Martin Mawyer of the Christian Action organizations explains the real danger of terrorism facing this country.

As Rep. King stated, there will always be angry delusional idiots running around attempting to do stupid stuff and it’s next to impossible to stop every one of these morons especially in a free and open society with a Constitution that protects the rights of everyone.

Are people upset with the sudden and radical jerk to the left that this Obama administration has taken in such a short period of time, spending trillions of our hard earned dollars all the while refusing to say where the money is going? Absolutely.

Are people upset their God given Constitutional protected right to own the firearm of their choice is in danger because those holding the political power in this country are bitterly opposed to citizens having the ability to defend themselves? No doubt..

Are people sick and tired of a government, regardless of which party is in power, that is tone deaf when it comes to illegal immigration and calls to secure our borders? You bet.

Are people sick and tired of a federal government that for years has ignored the rights of individual states to conduct business according to the wishes of the people who reside within them? They certainly are.

Are people unhappy about being profiled by government agencies because they do not believe in abortion, have NRA stickers on their windows, support third party candidates for president and fly certain flags such as the famous and historic Gadsden “Don’t Tread on Me” flag? Yes they are and they should be and this is precisely what all of the tea parties were all about.

Just because half this country is opposed to the far left politics of the Obama administration does not mean they are terrorist or radicals nor do they deserve to be referred to as such.

We already know where many of the real terrorists and threats are unfortunately they do not appear to be named in these particular Homeland Security or F.B.I. reports sent out to law enforcement agencies.
