American Ship Captain Rescued, Several Pirates Killed At Least One Captured

Fox News has just reported the U.S. ship captain, Richard Phillips, who had been held for days by Somali pirates has been rescued.

Phillips was able to escape the enclosed lifeboat he was being held in for a second time and members of the U.S. Navy SEALs, seizing the opportunity, quickly engaged in a brief firefight with the pirates killing three and capturing one.

The lifeboat was getting closer to the coast of Somali and the concern was the pirates would be able to get Phillips onto land and he would have been almost impossible to locate once that happened. There would have been little choice but to pay whatever ransom the pirates demanded in order to get Phillips released under that scenario.

It has been reported that Captain Phillips is now safely on board the U.S.S. Bainbridge. [updated to reflect Phillips is noe aboard the ship U.S.S. Boxer]
Happy Easter to this man and his family, one they will certainly never forget.
