Supporters, family members and a bunch of rabble rousers from some group called the International People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement held a rally in support of their new hero, a guy with an extensive criminal record who came to kill four Oakland police officers the afternoon of Saturday March 21.
Lovelle Mixon was wanted on a parole violation when he was pulled over in what appeared to be a routine traffic stop. It is unknown if he suspected he was being pulled over for the parole issue or not as he immediately opened fire on the two officers at the scene, killing them execution style with shots to the head as they lay wounded in the street. He then fled into a nearby apartment building where it is reported his sister was living. When an Oakland S.W.A.T. team swarmed the apartment Mixon once again started shooting killing two more officers and wounding another before he was finally taken out.

According to a timeline provided by the latimes.com Mixon had been meeting regularly with his parole agent until February 18. The agent went to Mixon’s residence but he was not there. The parole officer returned on Feb. 24 and 26 and still could not locate him. On Feb. 27 a warrant was issued and Mixon’s parole was revoked.
According to the San Fransisco Chronicle the day before the police murders Mixon’s DNA had been matched to a rape that had taken place a few months earlier. In fact it was reported he had been linked to a total of six rapes including a 12 year old girl yanked off the street at gunpoint.
In March 2002, Mixon tried to carjack a truck, firing a shot and pistol-whipping the driver. He was later convicted of assault with a deadly weapon and in a sentencing report the probation department stated that Mixon’s juvenile record was that of a “cold-hearted individual who does not have any regard for human life.” After his release from prison on that conviction Mixon was suspected in the December 2007 murder of 42 year old Ramon Stevens.
I suppose it’s understandable family members are wanting to forget the past and defend their son, cousin and brother but referring to this guy as a hero? Give us all a break huh folks? This guy was nothing more than your typical street thug, child rapist and murderer and four men dedicated to protecting the people in the neighborhood where they died paid the ultimate price for Mixon’s fear of facing the consequences of his actions like a real man.
RIP Officers John Hege, Sgt. Daniel Sakai, Sgt. Ervin Romans and Sgt. Mark Dunakin.
