Barack Obama, no fan of the 2nd amendment, trying to take out our 1st amendment too?

It seems that Barack Obama has been objecting to some advertisements running in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan and Virgina associating him with William Ayers the unrepentant left wing domestic terrorist involved in several U.S. bombings in the 1960s. He is now a professor in the College of Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Obama and Ayers worked closely together in the 90’s with the Chicago Annenberg Challenge and have had a personal relationship over the years. Despite the fact that we know better Obama claims to barely know Ayers, according to Obama “he’s just some guy that lives in the neighborhood.”

It seems Obama has taken umbrage at the ad, seen here, and had his lawyer start sending out threatening letters to television and radio stations in the region. In addition he has sent a complaint letter to the Department of Justice demanding a criminal investigation of the “American Issues Project” the group behind the ads. Obama’s argument is that he was just a child when Ayers was out bombing his way around town and should not be connected to him in any way so this ad campaign is deceptive. Odd thought considering they worked together for years at the CAC.

“The project is “a knowing and willful attempt to violate the strictures of federal election law,” Obama general counsel Bob Bauer wrote to Deputy Assistant Attorney General John Keeney. Bauer argued that by advocating Obama’s defeat, the ad should be subject to the contribution limits of federal campaign law, not the anything-goes regime of issue advocacy.”

American Issues Project responded:

“This is a sad ploy to circumvent the First Amendment by a campaign who has no arguments with the merits of our ad. It’s the classic maneuver: If you can’t win on the merits, file a lawsuit,” said a spokesman for the American Issues Project, Christian Pinkston, who said his group’s non-profit status allowed it to participate in elections as long as it does a majority of policy work, which it plans to do.”

Stepping up the rhetoric Obama vowed to not only go after the stations that air the ads but also any advertisers they can identify and connect to the ad campaign. The Obama campaign planned to punish the stations that air the ad financially, an Obama aide said, organizing his supporters to target the stations that air it and their advertisers. One of their main targets was the Sinclair Broadcast Group which was instrumental in getting the word out about John Kerry in 2004.

“Obama supporters have now sent more than 93,000 e-mails to the Sinclair stations that have decided to run the ad,” said Obama’s spokesman Tommy Vietor. Other stations that follow Sinclair’s lead should expect a similar response from people who don’t want the political discourse cheapened with these false, negative attacks.”

While there have been no allegations that John McCain had anything to do with the advertisement in question there has also been no attempt by Obama to have this ad pulled from msnbc, the only media outlet sick enough to run it.

Nice huh?

UPDATE: msnbc has pulled this disgusting ad after running it for at least two days.

Round two in August brings us to the radio station WGN-AM in Chicago who invited Stanley Kurtz, a conservative writer investigating the mysterious but long time connection between Barack Obama and William Ayers, to an on air interview. Listen to the interview podcast here. Kurtz had been seeking access to the Chicago Annenberg Challenge files (that have been secreted away for years and now reside in the Richard J. Daley Library at the University of Illinois at Chicago) involving the Obama-Ayers working relationship and has written an article for National Review Online describing his difficulties in this endeavor.

Obama’s campaign was notified of the invite and was asked to send someone on their behalf. They refused but immediately sent out the talking points sheet to their supporters in the area, presumably by text message.

“WGN radio is giving right-wing hatchet man Stanley Kurtz a forum to air his baseless, fear-mongering terrorist smears. He’s currently scheduled to spend a solid two-hour block from 9:00 to 11:00 p.m. pushing lies, distortions, and manipulations about Barack and University of Illinois professor William Ayers. Tell WGN that by providing Kurtz with airtime, they are legitimizing baseless attacks from a smear-merchant and lowering the standards of political discourse. It is absolutely unacceptable that WGN would give a slimy character assassin like Kurtz time for his divisive, destructive ranting on our public airwaves. At the very least, they should offer sane, honest rebuttal to every one of Kurtz’s lies.”

Hardly a slimy character assassin or a smear merchant, Kurtz graduated from Haverford College in Pennsylvania and holds a Ph.D. in social anthropology from Harvard University. He contributes articles regularly to the Wall Street Journal, Weekly Standard and National Review in addition to several other publications and is an adjunct fellow of the Hudson Institute and a Senior Fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center. It would seem to me that we can spin this slimy character assassin smear merchant garbage right around and point it at the Obama hacks.

According to the radio station the response that evening from the Obama bots was pretty strong with phone lines jammed and email boxes overflowing. Now the talking points supplied by the Obama “Action Wire” to the O-sheep told them to be honest, civil and persistent with their protestations when they got through to the station and then asked them to go to Obama’s website and report how their call went. Nothing like some independent critical thinking processes for these people huh? And the liberals accuse Rush Limbaugh listeners of being mind numbed robots. Again, according to WGN-AM they asked the Obama camp to have someone appear on the show…..but they declined. I wonder why?

The good news is after making this issue public Kurtz has finally been granted access to these files after months of obfuscation. The struggles he went through are well documented in the article he wrote that I mentioned earlier.

Round three came in mid September when the author of “The Case Against Barack Obama: The Unlikely Rise and Unexamined Agenda of the Media’s Favorite Candidate” David Freddoso dropped by the same WGN-AM radio. In a case of deja-vu-all-over-again the “bawling sheet” went out over the internet and again the station was hammered with presumably the same group of shriekers that inundated WGN phone lines during the show with Stanley Kurtz. Here we go with Obama’s talking points for this round:

“The author of the latest anti-Barack hit book is appearing on WGN Radio in the Chicagoland market tonight, and your help is urgently needed to make sure his baseless lies don’t gain credibility. David Freddoso has made a career off dishonest, extreme hate mongering and WGN apparently thinks this card-carrying member of the right-wing smear machine needs a bigger platform for his lies and smears about Barack Obama — on the public airwaves.”

See a pattern here? I can only presume the Obama camp was again afforded an opportunity to send someone over to appear on the show but there is no mention one way or the other on the WGN website. Unlike the Kurtz interview however there was an opportunity for a debate about the new book by Freddoso by liberal activist Dan Johnson-Weinberger. I can’t seem to find any information about conservatives swamping the station’s phone lines in protest of the liberal activist’s appearance. A podcast of the show is available here.

It seems as though Obama and his thugs have infiltrated the state of Missouri with something called a “truth squad” that enlists the help of law enforcement officials to help keep everyone on the straight and narrow. Wait a minute, did I hear that right? What kind of nonsense is this? Is this outrageous or what? The Governor of Missouri, Matt Blunt responds here.

We aren’t done yet folks. It looks like the Obama folks are on a real roll with this “threatening radio/TV stations” routine, the latest example taking place in Pennsylvania and Ohio. Evidently the Obama camp is again sending out letters to television stations in the region pressing them to refuse to air advertising by the National Rifle Association pointing out Obama’s anti second amendment positions. Since Pennsylvania has the highest number of NRA members per capita in the nation and one of the states currently “up in the air” as far as which way the electoral votes are going to go this is an important issue. Pennsylvania has over one million more registered Democrats than Republicans but these aren’t your San Fransisco latte sipping hard left type of Democrats and that is why John McCain is right on Obama’s can in the polls. The Obama missive to the radio stations included this:

“This advertisement knowingly misleads your viewing audience about Senator Obama’s position on the Second Amendment. In an article published today the Washington Post fact-checks this advertisement and awards it three “Pinocchios” meaning: “Significant factual error and/or obvious contradictions.” For the sake of both FCC licensing requirements and the public interest, your station should refuse to continue to air this advertisement.

Unlike federal candidates, independent political organizations do not have a “right to command the use of broadcast facilities.” See CBS v. DNC, 412 U.S. 94, 113(1973). Because you need not air this advertisement, your station bears responsibility for its content when you do grant access. See Felix v. Westinghouse Radio Stations, 186 F.2d 1, 6(3rd Cir.), cert. denied, 314 U.S. 909 (1950).

Moreover, you have a duty “to protect the public from false, misleading or deceptive advertising. Licensee Responsibility With Respect to the Broadcast of False, Misleading or Deceptive Advertising, 74 F.C.C.2d 623 (1961). Failure to prevent the airing of “false and misleading advertising” may be “probative of an underlying abdication pf licensee responsibility.” Cosmopolitan Broad. Corp. v. FCC, 581 F.2d 917, 927 (D.C. Cir. 1978)

This advertisement is false, misleading, and deceptive. We request that you immediately cease airing this advertisement. We would request the courtesy of a reply; and if you have any questions, or believe that this as is somehow fit for airing on your station, we ask that we have an opportunity to discuss this matter further, in person or by conference call.”

Now that sounds like a flat out threat to me and based on what? Three “Pinocchios” from the Washington Post? A publication that is so far in the tank for Obama that their snorkels and facemasks are completely filled with the kool-aid? I think I just hurt myself laughing. If you check out the pdf of the entire package sent out to the stations by the Obama people you’ll see they have attempted to refute many of the points made about Obama’s views on gun ownership by the NRA. Unfortunately for Obama his own words, voting history and surveys by uber liberal groups who’s support he was seeking in past campaigns has come back to fully bite him in the ass. John Lott Jr. takes the Obama camp to task in this well written and researched article which pretty much jams a sock in the Obama attorney’s piehole.

Ya know I got to thinking about false and misleading crap coming out of Pennsylvania and Congressman John Murtha came immediately to mind. I distinctly remember this jerk coming out and accusing Marines of “cold blooded murder of innocent civilians” in Haditha, Iraq back in 2006. Murtha, well known for his breathtaking pork barrel spending ways, couldn’t wait to spout off without knowing all of the facts. To date every accused U.S.M.C soldier has been exonerated and we are all still waiting for an apology from this jackass. The good news is former Lance Cpl. Justin Sharratt is suing Murtha for slander, the second Marine to do so, and I sincerely hope the rest of the guys Murtha besmirched follow suit and bankrupt this idiot.
